Have stayed at this hotel twice now. First time in Jan 2007 and just returned (March 2008). Both times we have been pleased and have had fabulous rooms. The last visit we had room 459 on Casa Fuerte block which was most certainly a superior room. Just could not fault it.... more

By no stretch of the imagination is this a five star hotel. The service in the breakfast restaurant was poor with dirty coffee pots and queues to obtain poorly cooked fried eggs. The restaurant was so poor we did not think about eating there at other times of the day. On... more

Fantastic hotel, spacious bedrooms, plenty of loungers although why do the English (not Germans) have to put down towels and go away for the day. Food plentiful reasonable variety but did continental style. Rooftop adult only pool & bathing areas. Down sides evening shows... more

We stayed at this hotel in June this year and it has to be one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at abroad. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely fabulous with an outstanding selection from all over the world. The hotel is situated... more

Upon booking my first holiday abroad with a friend we decided to go to a hotel somewhere familiar. We had booked the 4 star hotel, Noelia Sur. However upon arriving we discovered that we had been over booked and were being transferred to another hotel, this being Gran... more

I surprised my Mum for her 50th with a Spa holiday at the Gran Tacande and we were not disappointed. The hotel was luxury and the Spa facilities were fantastic. Our room was enormous with amazing views and yes we too, had to sinks and two showers - which we thought was... more

four star hotel
Decided to visit following the rave reviews. Shopped around and the best deal seemed to be direct with the hotel. All confirmed by email(thank goodness) as on arrival the reception seemed to know nothing about our requests for a sea view, extra bedding for the sofa bed, quiet location. Spent an hour haggling with them insisting they didn't have a seaview room available. Not great as I am pregnant and we had a tired 3 year old who needed a rest.Shown room which was on first floor facing the pool and extremely dark - seaview if you can dislocate your head from your shoulders! Eventually given the superior suite we had booked on the 5th floor which had a good view(over the roof tops) and seemed nice and quiet. Unfortunately the room above had a flood on its terrace and we had to move down a floor to a more obscured view the following day. even worse, we seemed to have paper thin walls and had to endure a very affectionate couple who came back from the bar late every night and had a marathon of --- activity for at least 2 hours. We both ended up on the sofa bed in the sitting room with our son on several nights to escape the noise. Then it was just the rattle of the service trolleys on the tiled floors in the corridors. Unfortunately because of the structure of the hotel, most of the rooms face the Gran Bahia and don't have a sea view. You really do have to insist on a proper seaview on one of the upper floors unless you are happy to look at another hotel and not get any sun on your balcony until late afternoon. On the plus side, the staff were generally great and were very good with children. The breakfast buffet was good but I agree that the evening buffet got very samey after 3 nights.Better to venture out. The pool area was beautiful but the main freeform pool was so cold that we did not see one person venture in during the week we were there. Room service was very patchy - food often took ages. We enjoyed exporing Coste Adeje but unfortunately the hotel did not live up to the 5 stars.
one of the best 5 star hotels
we stayed at the tacande for a week in april, we had 2 standard rooms next to each other as there were 5 in our party, our rooms were so big and spacious, clean and had air con. Maid service every morning which was excellent. Our balcony was huge and had the sun allday. however u could hear the next door occupants visiting the lavatory in the night. There was a wide selection of food which was excellent but do not cater for children, so we struggled with out 4 yr old daughter, however there are so many resturants to eat out at close by. So glad we didn't book the whole week as HB. We had a fantastic chinese meal out one evening situated at the top of steep hill from hotel. There is a pizza place next door to the back entrance of the hotel, DO NOT EAT HERE! The food was disgusting, we had several dead flies on everyone's salad. we told the waiter and he laughed, he didn't even apologise and only gave us 10% off the bill. We never had a problem with the sunbeds, there was plenty to go round. One of the pools is heated and is lovely and warm, which we needed as the mornings were chilly because it was cloudy but hot once the cloud had gone. Evenings were chilly too. Walks and views were beautiful. The staff were excellent and very friendly. There were some minor build works going on, but it did not effect us on this holiday. This is the place to relax as this was our 2nd time here and would go back again, again and again.
family trip 1st to 7th April
I found this website very helpful in choosing this hotel and am glad to confirm that others observations are accurate. The staff are very friendly, with the possible exception of front desk; they are all also amazingly trilingual. The place is very clean, with the exception of the top pool which has an accumulation of greasy soiling on the walls around the water line. The food is pretty good; we ate half board and as others have pointed out it would be better to book b&b only as there is plenty of choice around the hotel and it would have been nice to have had a couple of nights eating out to make a change. The cold choice is better than the hot but if you get the chef to cook your selection on the griddle for you then the hot is good too in my opinion; certainly a very impressive choice of fish through the week of our stay. Desserts were pretty boring and factory made. The food at the poolside bar is very poor indeed and I would not recommend you try it although the burgers looked good. Rooms are a good size but yes the sound insulation is poor: you will hear the next door room occupants visiting the lavatory in the night, and their television too. Luckily for us the lady with the steel soled stilletos who seemed to enjoy tap dancing on the tiled floor in the room above ours left after one day; ditto the baby crying early one morning. The hotel is in a really great position for the excellent, although busy beach. There is a charge for the spa which we were not expecting and did not use, and also for tennis which we were not told about until it was on the bill. If we ever returned to Tenerife (doubtful - too spoiled by development) we would probably return here and would recommend it to others. Top tip - take the lift to floor seven which is the roof and look at the view at night time. Enjoy.
Fabulous time
We spent 4 nights at the Gran Tacande in April on a half board basis. We had a fabulous stay. The hotel deserves its 5* status and the food was well prepared and delicious and the service excellent. The rooms were luxurious and cleaned superbly each day. Our only gripe was that the large pool was not heated and was icy cold and 3 of us developed an itchy rash which we put down to an allergy from swimming in the pool. The area that the hotel is in is really smart and clean and the beach is one of the best in Tenerife. We loved it and would go back there!
Its 4Star+ not a 5Star HOTEL
The Gran Tacande Hotel enjoys a superb position, is welcoming with great Ocean views, the rooms are well appointed and the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. The Buffet Dinner display initially looks very good however there is actually a small choice and the quality of the food is poor. There is no childrens food available! Over our six day stay, 3 out of 6 in our party fell ill with sickness but we are pretty convinced it was not the food but the water in the Jacuzzi! or top pool. The bottom pool is absolutely freezing! The pool bar which is the only external recreational area closes at 6.00pm, which should be opened at least until 11.00pm, the only other bar was in the hotel lobby which is dark and quite formal. Entertainment was scarce to! The hotel is not a true 5 Star more a 4Star+. If the food aspect was addressed we would go back, more worrying was the sickness bug!
We Loved the Gran Tacande
Just Returned 05/04/05 from the Gran Tacande perfect stay great hotel good food, great entertainment, staff wre very freindly and made us feel very welcme, we will certainly return to this hotel
Tranquil
Stayed 4th - 8th March 2005, myself and wife aged 48 for a relaxing chill out short break, luckily just avoiding previous weeks atrocious weather! Booked everything independently, including pre-booked taxi transfers from airport which worked very well - personalised taxi cost £45 through Resorthoppa. Arrived at hotel having booked standard room but followed advice here and requested sea view room. Room view we got OK but overlooked lift shaft. Room itself, extremely spacious and well appointed. Hotel is three interlinked 'blocks' so do some homework beforehand to decide where you want to be or do it on check-in. Staff some of friendliest I've come across, which came as some surprise for Spain. Breakfast just OK in our opinion, English stuff (bacon, egg, etc) to be avoided - terrible. However, plenty of other choice including caviar and champagne if thats your thing at breakfast! Resort itself at 'better' end of Adeje opposite Duque beach, good position only yards from very good beach. Some choice of restaurants but wow do they vary in price and quality! Tried the Mirador as mentioned here, and expensive for what it is but OK and very friendly with entertainment too. Avoid the pitza tratorria below the hotel, its the worst we've ever experienced. Overall, good relaxing holiday. and if you want a class hotel with all the trimmings and touches you'll find it here. By the way, the Bahia de Duque hotel is overlooked by the Tacande and looks awesome - don't know what its like though except very expensive.
Very Disappointing !
Have stayed at many beautiful 5* hotels around The World but sadly, this wasn't one of them. Chose The Tacande on the basis of the glowing reports on this site and would have to seriously question whether we stayed at the same resort or alternatively what sort of expectations the other reviewers have. Firstly the good points, free gagage parking (a nice bonus if you're used to being charged £20-30 per day, as many do) Spacious rooms, pleasant pool area and nicely proportioned/luxury bathroom. Now the bad : The Tacande is not a 5* hotel and recognising it as such is a genuine insult to the true 5*'s out there. The property is not being well maintained and many communal areas and hallways are tatty and neglected. The overall finish throughout is substandard Spanish build with huge gaps next to light fittings, cracked/ill-fitting tiles and grouting that should feature on a DIY tv program. The hotel were unable to provide an iron and board stating gruffly that any ironing should left out to be laundered (24 hours !) really helpful. The temperature was falling to single figures in the evenings and the room was not heated (the a/c only cools apparently) so 2 hours after requested, a small electric heater was sent to the room. The bedspreads and cushion covers were very musty and desperately in need of a clean. There is no wireless or hard wire broadband internet available in the rooms. (this is 2005 for goodness sake !!!) Food is of average quality and certainly nothing special and whatever you do don't go later on for dinner as nothing is refreshed and you are left with withered/dried up leftovers. The Tacande is undoubtedly the noisiest hotel that I have ever stayed in. Constantly slamming doors, noisey tiled floors, inconsiderate cleaning staff. There is a large building site directly opposite which has been cleared in preparation so be very careful which room you are given if this get's up and running and if you must stay here do request a top floor. There are many nicer 5* properties in this area and my advise would have to be, give this one a miss.
Good luxury hotel with a few flaws
We got a really great package deal direct with the hotel web site , Spa , Ocean view (we moved to get a true sea view ), HB , Champagne , Chocs , Incense (?) , dinner at Bocoy , Roses (still waiting) , trouble was that nobody at reception had a clue about the various packages available so we had to fight for what we had paid for , still it was fun . The hotel is sandwiched narrowly between two much larger hotels , Anthelia and Baher de Duque , pool area is very well laid out, loads of planting , the rooms are very comfortable and semi luxury (the walk in shower is the best i have seen) . The main problem was the Zurron buffet restaurant , the food was ok but no more and there was a real lack of variety , we stay in similar hotels in the Canaries each year and this was by far the worst display , as a result we switched to BB half way thru . To be honest there are so many good restuarants in walking distance I really don't see the point of HB . The SPA was great with all sorts of wierd saunas etc . The Bocoy restarant was ok if you like strange combinations and tiny portions other wise give it a miss . Entertainment was average with acts perfoming in the small bar area as opposed to a large'club' like arena . Overall a good hotel with friendly staff ,but don't book HB , also don't stay in the Malpais block which has the worst views , if i were to return i would stay at the Anthelia which is larger and in a better position of Costa Adeje which incidently is very upmarket area
Relaxing winter break February '05
Had a relaxing week at this hotel (8-15 Feb). Very comfortable room in the Casa El Fuerte part of the hotel on the 4th floor. Sea view from the large balcony (views of El Duque beach and the isle of La Gomera), 2 seater sofa, armchair, sat tv (limited english channels), bathroom with 2 wash basins, jacuzzi, separate shower. The hotel is 15 minutes drive from the airport, in an upmarket area -several 5 star hotels nearby. There is a bit of construction going on around the hotel area, not directly next to Tacande but within view and earshot (NB: there´s a plot opposite the hotel entrance ready for development but there were no construction vehicles on site during my stay). The lobby and lounge areas were very comfortably funished, and there´s a couple of bars where reasonably good evening entertainment was provided from 8pm to 11pm. There didn´t appear to be a great deal on offer for families with young kids. Two fair sized pools (one heated - salt water) and ample sun loungers (mattresses and towels provided). There´s a full spa on site providing the usual range of treatments. Only tried the food in the Zurron buffet restaurant, and this was of a fairly good standard. I´d suggest going BB and pay the HB supplement if you get tired of eating out (there´s of plenty of places to eat nearby to suit all tastes and budgets). In my view the VIP service (50 euro supplement per person per day) was not good value: newspapers were often late (there are several newsagents nearby), and the tapas lunch was invariably the same each day (cold meats and wine). I had a good look at the other 5 star hotels nearby and I´d say the Gran Tacande compares very well - the Gran Bahia Del Duque next door looked overated considering the room rates there. I´d return to this hotel but go BB and skip the VIP package.
