The good:
Side is a fantastic place - there are lots of ancient ruins, some of which are incorporated into the varied bars, restaurants and homes. The coastline is beautiful, weather is superb, nightlife and food are good. Also, the location is excellent with the equally stunning Alanya and the busy city of Antalya both less than an hour's drive away.
The bad:
The hotel was disappointing in several ways:
- The kitchen equipment was inadequate, with insufficient cutlery and a hob that was not even capable of boiling a pan of water.
- A cleaner stole some hidden cash on our very first day. Searching for money must be routine for them to have found it so quickly, so hiring a safe is unfortunately a necessity.
- We were given a small room (studio) when we had paid for a large. The staff did not even apologise for this or offer anything to compensate us - we were simply shrugged at and told we could change rooms after three nights (half way through our holiday!) as if it was no big deal. After much negotiation we were given free air conditioning for the three days but, nevertheless, a sour taste was left in the mouth. It turned out that two other groups we arrived with had similar issues.
- The location was ok, but could have been better. Both the beach and central Side were further away than we would have liked - I'd certainly recommend getting somewhere closer.
The ugly:
There are a significant minority of Turkish men that are downright immoral and will attempt to bed any women they see even in front of their boyfriends. On one occasion a waiter gave his number to my girlfriend whilst taking our order!
Throughout our holiday we were subjected to several examples of terrible customer service, the likes of which you will not have witnessed in any more developed countries. We became disillusioned with the beaming smiles of business owners attempting to liberate lira from our wallets after experiencing their friendliness turn sour or even aggressive when, for example, they brought us the wrong drink and we asked for a replacement.
We rented a car, and the bad attitudes of some were clear to see on the roads. We had to deal with incredibly dangerous aggressive drivers on just about every journey. Probably best to just stick to tours and public transport.

We returned from Turkey yesterday with our 2 children. Side was lovely, weather really hot which was great compared to our British weather of rain this year. Sun City, well, rooms spacious and clean and maid service regular. The pool was kept clean and safe; however staff were rude, non-friendly and made a hell of a racket after midnight with certain guests, as well as jumping in the pool at 2a.m.
If we made a complaint then the staff would ignore us the next day, and I am glad we have no daughters as they stared at every young girl there. Food was not nice and very expensive in the hotel; 2 slices of toast and a sausage cost us £4.00, evven that was cold when it came.
We will visit Side again definitely and maybe with Thomson as they are pretty good, even though we never saw the rep after the welcome meeting but got a slip through the door. But never will I even think about Sun City.
Locals friendly, they did harass you to visit their restaurants and shops but if you smile and continue to walk away they usually leave it. Great restaurant called Indian and Turkish restaurant, but it doesn't sell Indian food as we found out, but super fantastic food, great friendly staff, especially Peace, Lucky and Eddy. Thanks guys for a great holiday, and the kids loved it in their restaurant with a pool and table tennis table.
Turkey lovely country, but don't go to Sun City.

Just come back from staying at Sun City and it is a very nice place indeed. The hotel is spotless; our room was small but very clean and maintained highly every day.
The staff are all very friendly, especially Mustafa, he made us very welcome on our first day and explained everything in good English. A couple of the waiters can be over friendly, mainly to female guests, this can be slightly too much at times.
The food is very good and the price is low, you can pay your bill daily or keep a tab on your room. We paid ours every couple of days to keep on top of it all.
The pool is excellent; it is the perfect temperature, very clean and are plenty of sunbeds around. When the temperature is going over 40 degrees the pool is a welcome break from the all day sunshine we had. The staff will bring food and drinks to you by the pool to add to the relaxed atmosphere.
Nearby are some fantastic places to eat. The "Cihan" is first class and only a stone’s throw away from the hotel; you must try their "Cihan Kebab" one night, very large, very tasty and comes out on fire.
Beware of local shop keepers, some are great and very entertaining, you can quite easily end up sat in their shops drinking tea with them, but some are a bit too pushy and can annoy you, this goes for the restaurants, they all want you to see their menu, just tell them you have already eaten.
This was our first time in Turkey and we loved it, a great hotel, great weather, and good cheap food, we would definitely visit again.

Spent 7 nights here and loved every minute of it. I have 3 children and the staff were absolutely amazing, very friendly always happy to see you.
The hotel itself is very clean and nice basic facilities, lovely pool, restaurant, mini market, pool table, and access to the internet (there is a small charge for the last two).
There is a very small play area for under fives which is the ONLY thing I can think of which needs improving. The apartments are cleaned every day by very friendly staff.
The hotel staff can speak English well. You don't have to pay your bill for food/drinks when you order them but the next day is fine. We paid it every day just so we knew how much was going out.
There are a few restaurants within walking distance from the hotel and a few shops too. It is very easy to catch the local minibus (dolmus) or a taxi to the town centre, about 2miles away. It is well worth going there to see 'Antique Side' LOTS of shopping and the old ruins and beaches are beautiful.
The beach can get busy during the day but still plenty of space for kids to run around while you sunbathe. The local beach is also a 5-10min walk from the hotel. It only rained twice while we were there, in the morning for a couple of hours, but this soon changed to fine HOT weather, 30degrees plus every day.
There are many excursions to go on but it is cheaper to book these through the local shops rather than your rep, MUCH cheaper! We went on a wild jeep safari through the mountains and a river boat cruise.
The jeep ride was quite rough and scary but great fun and the boat ride is over 3hours in total but takes you to a beautiful beach. They are both experiences we will never forget. We cannot fault the hotel at all.
The entertainment is good and there is a kids club every morning where our two younger children were happy to go to and the eldest was happy to stay in the pool.
Ismail is the friendliest cook/waiter/barman we have ever met, ALWAYS happy to help you.
For approx £16 you can keep your room from 12pm which is normal checkout time to about 6pm. Don't forget to take all your basic toiletries, soap, shampoo etc and Europen adaptor plugs, although we were provided with one.
The shopkeepers are a nightmare so beware of them, most of them insist on you coming into their shops and their prices are extortionate so be prepared to haggle...ALOT! The restaurants are the same, just say you've already eaten or you'll come back later.
Turkey is a stunning country and I would stay at Sun City again because it’s a great, family friendly, fun place and very affordable too.

I got back from Turkey yesterday and I absolutely loved it.
It was great, the pool was so good and massive. The entertainment was really good and the waiters were so nice and kind especially Smiley, he was the best and really nice I miss him so much.
The beach was really nice and the sea. There wasn’t many shops around the hotel but if you go into Side old town it is really busy and bustling with shops! This is a great holiday for a family.
The Manavgat market is very good as well you can get some great bargains there but sometimes some market holders fight with the price of the item with you, but you just tell them straight.
I am hopefully going to go back to Turkey in this hotel when I am older and with mates hopefully Smiley is still there because I miss him millions and millions!! Have a nice time there x

I only got back form Sun City yesterday.
I had a fantastic time there and would definitely go back. The staff are so nice, Deniz, Alex, Martin, Mustafa and Alfie are so lovely. We had a great time with them and I wish them all the best of luck. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and I was pleasantly surprised by them, considering what we paid. I highly recommend Sun City to everyone.
Try the Turkish baths and shopping in Old Side Town. Everything was so cheap and the people are really friendly.
Sun City is one place that i would love to return to.

Sun City was recommended to us for our first all inclusive holiday and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is in a lovely location, surrounded by mountains and so close to the town and sea front.
The private beach isn't exclusive to Sun City and the all inclusive does not cover this part. It is so calm and beautiful there and makes a nice change from being by the pool. You can take bread and stand in the water feeding fish as they swim around you. Just lovely.
Food and facilities generally good. Ice cream only served between 12 and 2 which is a bit restrictive and unreasonable given the number of children at the hotel.
Sun lounger availability can be a problem, though the hotel did enforce a rule of removing towels left on beds before 9am.
The entertainment team are friendly and go out of their way to make your holiday enjoyable. Equally, if you don't want to join in, you don't have too.
My top tip would be to take English notes for trips and shopping. It is much cheaper to pay this way and generally credit cards are not accepted. I didn't know this and was often charged an exchange rate of 3 lira to the £ when in fact the rate was only 2.6 lira to pay in the local currency!
We booked trips via easy riders on the seafront, with Gorgeous George and Philip. Paragliding is a must, and is nowhere near as scary as it looks. Don't miss out on a Jeep safari - and take a water pistol (its a wet day and you need to defend yourself!) and sweets to give to the village children. We also tried scuba diving as complete beginners and loved it and did a boat trip too.
The aqua park is very small in comparison to others we have visited - having said that the children loved it and I was able to read a good book.
I would go back to Sun City and Olu Deniz for sure - but not too soon, too many other places to see!

WE have just come back from Sun City, We had a lovely week’s holiday there.
The brochure says that this hotel is 2star but do not let that put you off as this should be three star.
Very clean comfortable accommodation. Friendly staff who can not do enough for you.
At Sun City there is everything you need Pool Poolside bar shop internet, shop restaurant. Friendly staff who all speak English.
When you go here just keep an eye on your bill and make sure you pay it daily as everything you get is put on your bill which is only payable at reception.
We came home yesterday and have already booked to go back... I would highly recommend Sun City.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 weeks in June and had a great time.
All the staff were very friendly, mustafa, smiler and alfie were all great.
We stayed in a studio which was quite spacious and had plenty of room for the two of us. The room was tidy and cleaned to a good standard.
I couldn't fault the accommodation, bit of a walk to the restaurants etc but well worth it for a relaxing break!

The apartment overall were basic but very clean, the maids were in every day of our holiday cleaning and extremely trust worthy and the staff and waiters were brilliant!
My self and my family went half board but the only downside to this is that the hotel caters mainly for the Germans and Norwegians and we struggled to eat the 3 set meals that were offered to us which was not our idea of half board but thanks to the management there they gave us choice of the menu and the breakfast was not very thrilling very, very basic but in all honesty I would definitely go back next year but self catering, the restaurants up the road from sun city were excellent and very cheap(25 pound for a family of six)and very friendly. The hotel's hold entertainment from Russian dancers to belly dancers, magic shows and brake dancers it was very good!
Watch out for Alfie and Elvis the two of the best staff there, they are all excellent and all can’t do enough for you but these two are the best. They also have a bar tab for each family my advice is to pay this every day as it could be expensive at the end of the week and keep an eye on what you've had.
The Thomson rep Phil is brilliant any day trips you need or places you want to go he will arrange anything to suit you. Don’t go with other day trip people as we got dumped off the boat and left and had to find our own way back so stick to your rep or could cost you more money! Side is beautiful and was one of the best hotels and the best country and overall the best holiday up to yet! Real value for money!

We went to Sun City in April 2005 and found that all was not as it seemed. The pool looked lovely on arrival but on the first day found it was not heated and therefore unsuitable for use by our daughter who was 1yr and six months.
Be warned that to walk into side itself is a mission and not advisable to stay at sun city with young children as with a buggy the walk is extremely tiring and don’t even attempt to get on a dolmus with a buggy and young children.
Also found that in April the entertainment was non existent due to apparently the lack of guests however there were approximately 50 people staying there. On the plus side there is a nice restaurant just on the corner where the staff are brilliant. The excursion to Antalya market was good value.
The boat trip is no good for under 3 year olds. Overall I would go back to Turkey and side but choose different apartments.
