Dreadfully rude staff member ruined our evening!
2 parts to this review. 1) The hotel itself was nice but not to our taste. The room was very dark and forbidding. Communal areas were very tasteful. The ambience, however, was of a big impersonal hotel. We felt very much like we were guests on a conveyor belt - get us in, get our money and get us back out. To be fair, we had just come from a fantastic small hotel outside Lucca that was the complete opposite, which will have coloured our view of this hotel. The location is good - a short 10-minute leisurely stroll to town. Got what... more
Just gets better and better!
We have now stayed several times in this hotel and it just gets better and better. It is as much part of the Opera experience as the event itself. The pre opera buffet is a wonderful way to start the evening although the mini bus can be rather oversubscribed. If you are able, walk to the Arena, it's flat all the way and road crossings are well marked. Staff at the Hotel are without fail helpful and multi lingual and can organise taxis to all parts of the city. Breakfast is a joy and is served late on the mornings after the opera. Already... more
Grear place!
We stayed there when we visited Verona for the opera (Aida). It was by far the cheapest four star place in town. Although it is a little out of the center, it is a magnificent place to stay with nicely furnished rooms and great service. The breakfast was especially nice. Also there is a bus shutlle running every 20 minutes or so. For the money we payed (around 100 Euro) it was a great bargain. We will definitely come back next time we visit Verona during the opera season.
Great deal!
It is a very nice hotel, to the luxurious side and I must say, when I arrived, i thought I had misread the quote on the internet site. The only drawback is its location, it is a good 15 min walk from the center of the town but it is certainly feasible, esp. if hte weather is good. For the price and what it offers, it is ok to be a bit far from the heart of Verona.
Very pleasant hotel but not in the heart of action
This hotel was more of a business-like ambience but we found the large modern rooms to be a nice change. The rooms toward the front of the hotel tend to be a bit noisy as they face a main motorway. Also, we do not mind walking (a 15 minute walk to Piazza Bra and Arena) but some may find the location too far from the main action. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the buffet breakfast was very good. We were able to get a very good rate from Expedia for this hotel.
Pretends to be more than they can keep
Leon D'Oro is an elegant hotel a bit outside of the city walls of Verona but walking distance to Arena (10min). Just next to a industy area on one hand (silent!) , 8 lane street on the other side plus railway very close (both loud!!), be prepared for pretty tight parking area (11 EUR max/day!). Parking outside is possible for free.Rooms are not "spacious" at all for my understanding (90% are 25qm, so the offered upgrade to bigger room is not likely), double-rooms have got two (1m) beds with small gap in between. Bathrooms big!Welcome drink... more
Pretty terrific
I'm sitting in the lobby of the hotel at the moment and can say that I'm quite impressed with this hotel. Four stars, no doubt. It is beautifully furnished, the staff makes an extra effort to attend to your needs, and the food is excellent. More than a bit pricey (the rack rate is 400 euros four a double room), which makes it impossible to stay here unless the company is paying. :)) A few things keep it from getting an excellent rating. The electronic system installed in the room to alert the maid that you want to be undisturbed doesn't... more
