Reviews of Colon II Apartments, Playa De Las Americas

Me and my boyfriend had a fantastic time in Tenerife. The colon II apartments were a real treat, I will find it hard to find somewhere for next year that will even come close. The staff were extremely friendly and the apartments and pool were spotless. Staff were cleaning non stop, room was cleared everyday and towels replaced every couple of days, she even did all our washing up, which we weren't expecting. Atmosphere around the pool was relaxing and other families were really chatty. There were a couple of 'problem' children that were using bad language and kicking balls all over the place. This didn't last long though the manager soon sorted them out, didn't hear a peep from them after that!!! One lunchtime we did have our umbrella taken Location is perfect, so close to everything you will need, restuarants,bars shops etc!! Definately visit 'Tony Rama's' my boyfriend loved the ribs. Be warned though we had to queue for a little while to get a table.We found that most evenings after a huge meal we sat out the front of the hotel in their cafe having a drink and chatting before going onto the bars. I would recommend Colon II for families and couples, it's not lively like other places so wouldn't suggest for groups who are seeking all night,all day piss ups!

Another thing, there were only a few umbrellas around the pool so if you find it hard in the afternoon scorching rays, especially between 1-3pm. Make sure get down there early to get one and guard it with your life.

This was our first holiday with our 15 month old son, and boy did we pick the right place.



From outside the colon 2 looks like a posh cafe, and nothing like a hotel.

The entrance is very smart and modern, and spotlessly clean.

The reception staff are very friendly, and you instantly get the feeling you've made a good choice with this hotel.

The hotel itslef is set directly behind the reception, so it is away from the road and very private & secure. We did get a little noise from outside but nothing bad, except the night that spain won the euros lol.



We had a 1 bed corner apartment on the 1st floor.

The apartment was amazing, very modern, key card entry=no keys :), very very clean and huge.

The bathroom looked like a 5* hotel and the kitchen was very smart and plenty big enough.



The bedroom had plently of storage and really nice furniture although the beds were very hard.

As we had a corner apartment our balcony was massive, about twice the size of some we saw :), it also had great views.



I've stayed in plenty of hotels but none have been this clean, the maids just don't stop.

One day our room got cleaned twice!, seriously they are in everyday and our towels got changed daily, bedding about every 2-3 days. The maids were very friendly apart from one that gave me the evils for walking over her mopped floor.



Outside the complex is small but again spotless, the pool is very nice but its salt water.

Word of warning, do not swim under water with your eyes open, i did and got blinded for about 3 hours lol. Also you need to go out early and reserve a sunbed with your towel (everyone does it), otherwise you don't have a hope of getting one.





The only downside to our stay was that it was quite popular with young groups, we expected it to be a family hotel but tbh about 70% of it was youngsters.

The hotel has a no noise policy, but it was quite loud some nights when the younger one's get in (shouting, banging etc).

Also we were unlucky and had the most annoying people possible in the room above, the floors are tiled (very smart) but we didn't appreciate the women upstairs walkng round for hours in them.

Plus they loved dragging chairs across the room at like 3am :oS not to mention the other 'bumps' and 'bangs' we had to listen to at 4am EVERY morning.



Location wise its spot on, close enough to the beach, close enough to the bars but far enough away from the strip for us 'oldies' (actually im only 32).

For brekkie head to 'LA Boca' (turn right out of the hotel, then turn right & cross over about 50 metres up the road), its the best fry up in las americas, great staff who are very friendly. we had tea there a few times too and couldn't fault the place.

The giddy goose over the road is good too, although no kiddy highchairs.

Also american dreams do a good fillet steak and there are some really nice resturaunts on the seafront. All only a 10 min walk from the colon.



The only trip we done was to loro park to see the whale and dolphin show. Its quite a long journey (about 1 and half hours) but worth it just to see the whales.

My tip is to see the shows first, and then look around the zoo part later as we almost missed the whale show as they are only on every few hours and you have a limited time at the park. Timed right you can easily see everything.



Overall we had an amazing time, and i would recommend the colon 2 to anyone.

yes we had a bit of noise, but this did not detract from an amazing holiday and an amazing hotel.

I will stay here again next time im in tenerife as i doub't you could find better especially for the price.



Oh forgot to add that the rooms get painted between EVERY guest, so they always look new....how many hotels do that?

At first site as the coach drew up I thought that's a nice Cafe but where is the apartments. However, once I had booked in with the very friendly receptionist and was told which room I was in, it soon became apparent that I had arrived in a very clean and welcoming place.



We had a family room on the 4th floor. It was spaciuos and ideal and the 5 of us (4 adults and one 16 year old child) had more than enough room for ourselves, clothing etc. The room was well equipped with everything you may need.



The maid service was excellent and the staff were very pleasant.



The apartment block is very well situated in the resort. 300m from the beach in one direction, around 100M from the various Bars and restaurants and not a million miles from the wild night life if you want it. However, at night although close to these attractions there was very little noise from them and we all slept soundly.



The bar at the complex was unfortunately closed however this did not distract from the holiday as there are plenty of other local bars in the vicinity. Our favourite been Los Angeles Bar where we recieved superb service on each occasion we went there.



I would certainly go back to the Colon without hesitation and would reccommend it to anyone. I cannot understand the reviewer who only gave it 4, she is the only person who has complained about the services provided.



Having worked as a holiday Rep myself in the 80's I know a thing or two about accommodation and this is one of the best I have been to.

These are the best apartments i have stayed in and i have been to Tenerife a few times so i would definitely recommend these. They are in a fantastic location just at the end of the Veronica strip where all the main pubs and clubs are yet there is no noise what so ever, you are also just a short walking distace to the beach.



The reception staff are very friendly, polite and a credit to the hotel, they are happy to help in anyway they can, and the maids........ well what can i say do they ever stop cleaning??



They have a strict no noise after 10 policy which i dont think ever seems to be a problem...not that we encountered!!



Before going i read all the reviews and was worried about the beds being rock solid but i never had a problem getting to sleeping on them.



The pool bar and snack bar sell reasonably priced food and the ice cream is amazing.



We ate out most nights and tried all different places but i have to say the best by far was Mama Rosa the apartments own restaurant the food is totally amazing and we went back there for our last meal



To put it simply when i go back to Tenerife i will be staying in these apartments

this hotel is what you need for a week of relaxation.



it is so central to all the pubs and clubs but is is very quite. there is a strick no noise policy after 10pm which works well for the nights you want a quite one. the towels that are left to reserve the sun loungers are removed which is grt as you can have a lie in with no worries. the food at the pool bar is ok the colon club sandwich is to die for a must have.....



staff at hotel are great and will give you an insider to all the hot spots around the area



rep was ok nothin special but did not have any quires to bring up with her..



over all top class holiday for every1 i have booked up for next year in this holel.

I have stayed in alot of aparthotels in spain, and this hotel is by far the best!



Very clean, quite hotel which you need to relax. The hotel staff are very polite and helpful. The maids are polite abd are a credit to the hotel.



The hotel has a lovely bar, where the sell food. In reception, there is a coffee bar, which they sell the most delious ice cream, very reasonably priced.



The pool area is very clean, the pool itself is clean and inviting. There is no need to wake up early to claim a sun lounger, as there are enough for everyone



Anyone looking for a clean, relaxing stay, go and stay at Colon 2, it was well worth the money!

We stayed at the Colon 2 for a week and would recommend it to anyone. Go abroad several times a year and must say these are one of the better places we ve stayed. Studio lovely, staff excellent, very clean and modern. Location perfect for everything, but very quiet even though its in the centre of the resort. Going back in August.

We were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment on the 4th floor and were extremely impressed. The apartments, pool area and corridors were kept spotless by very polite and helpful staff. Reception were also extremely helpful and booked us some excursions that were cheaper than those from Thomson. Our only problem was that we were unsure how to work the hotplate (as we have a gas hob at home) but feel sure that reception would have helped us out if we had asked. The TVs are coin-operated and a key for the room safe was available at 15 Euros. We thoroughly recommend these apartments and the resort and a number of holiday-makers that we met have returned on many occasions to Colon II. We found a great restaurant called "Los Angeles" about 200 yards from the apartments (turn left as you exit Colon II) where a two-man group (keyboard player and guitarist) entertain from 9pm until midnight except Wednesday (when an Elvis impersonator performs). The restaurant waiters/waitresses are also polite, helpful and friendly and the food is good. A word of warning: have nothing to do with the free scratch cards that youngsters try to give you in the streets. These are time-share presentations (no matter what they tell you) and they try to lure you into taxis with a promise of a prize.

My wife and I have had 2 great holidays at the Colon 2, (in 2006 & 7) and in November we are going back again. This time, we are going with our daughter, son in law and grand daughter. The rooms are very clean, and maid service is more than regular through the week. There is everything you would need for a self catering holiday, including a hair dryer. The staff are very warm, friendly and helpful, from the maid service, reception, bar and day time snack bar personnel. We can't praise the whole package high enough.

The pool area is clean and tidy, with plenty of sun loungers. and there is a children's pool area as well. You are close to a large supermarket and shops, and there are plenty of bars around the area so you can have a variety of entertainment. There is a free bus to Aqualand near by, and good walks to Los Christianos. The Colon 2 is very well situated for all types of holiday.

THE COLON 11 APARTMENTS IN PLAYA LAS AMERICAS ARE A FAB PLACE TO STAY.

WOULD RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE WANTING ARE QUIETER HOLIDAY IN A GREAT RESORT - TRAVELLED WITH MY PARENTS AND MY HUSBAND AND 4 YEAR OLD SON AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS A SUPERB PLACE.

APARTMENTS ARE CENTRAL TO EVERYTHING BUT AWAY FROM THE 'ROWDY BARS AND CLUBS'

ONLY 5 MINS FROM THE 'BLACK BEACH' BUT IF YOU WANTED THE FINER SANDY BEACH IT WAS A LOVELY WALK ALONG THE PROMENADE!

THE APARTMENTS THEMSELVES WERE ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS - REALLY COULDN'T FAULT THEM. WE HAD A 2 BED APT WHICH ARE ALL ON THE TOP FLOOR. FAB VIEWS FROM BALCONY - MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR A POOL VIEW THEN YOU GET VIEWS OF MOUNTAINS AND SEA AS WELL - STUNNING.

POOL AREA WAS GREAT AND VERY CLEAN WITH SOME LOVELY FOOD AT THE POOL BAR - AND TRY THE ICE CREAMS SERVED FROM THE FRONT BAR BESIDE RECEPTION!!

STAFF IN THE APARTMENTS ARE SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL

PLENTY OF GREAT RESTAURANTS AROUND - TRY POMPEII JUST AROUND THE CORNER AND TONY ROMAS - FAMOUS FOR RIBS.

PJ'S BAR ACROSS THE STREET WAS GREAT PLACE TO GO AND HAVE A QUIET DRINK WATCHING EVERYONE GO BY!!

DEFINITELY WANT TO GO BACK TO THIS RESORT AND THESE APARTMENTS - TRY THEM FOR YOURSELF!!!! 10 OUT OF 10

We`v been 2 the canaries 4 times now and colon 2 as been the best place we`v stayed at. Friendly staff , the cleaners never stop cleaning good aparttment on the 4 floor with the best sun terrace you would wish for. And what really topped it 4 us was the front bar,the staff were really friendly. the only down side was there was not enother space for the clothes as there was 5 of us and only little cardbroad and we are looking to book up again in september this year.

just returned from the colon what a place to stay it was stunning we stayed in a 2 bedroom appartment on the 4th floor.the sun terrace was very large. the views was beautiful and the place in general was spotless they were cleaning all the time.we had our beds made everyday clean towels everyday the maids even washed our dishes.the staff was very polite and could not do enough for us the weather was very hot i recomend to take chilren there i have 3 small children and i felt safe there,there was cctv everywhere even by thepool. i cant wait to return fantastic place to stay. Just back from 2 cracking weeks at this hotel. Cant reccomend highly enough. The hotel is very clean and well run, caters well for kids but I did chuckle at some of the comments about pool rules, we obeyed these at first but then just joined in with everyone else leaving their towels on the loungers, got the kids some lilos etc. It was a quiet time of year though and didnt really get out of hand. I'd say this is ideal for families and couples after a more relaxing time, although it is well placed for the nightlife. We had 3 rooms for 2 families of 4 and my in laws but found that the rooms cater more for 3 (not enough utensils, chairs etc) so not a perfect 10 but a well deserved 9.

The hotel complex has a poolside bar and also a coffee bar sharing reception which opened onto the street. As we have young kids we tended to take them to the numerous well kept parks along the sea front promenade that links Las Americas, Los Cristianos and Puerto Colon, that along with one of the fab ice creams for the kids and reccomend hot chocolates / coffees from the coffee bar was our night and made for a great holiday.

The hotel is well sited for all amenties which are within an easy walking distance (even after the mother in law fell over and hurt foot, Look out for good drinks deals in Leonardo's on the walk to Veronicas!)

STAYED AT THE COLON 6TH TO 20TH OF MARCH BOOKED ON THE STRENGTH OF REVIEWS AND PLEASED WE DID.ARRIVED MID AFTERNOON ON THURSDAY WIFE AND 3 CHILDREN AGES 16,10 AND 9 CHECKED IN STRAIGHT AWAY AND COULD TELL IMMEDIATELY WHY EVERYONE HAS SAID ABOUT CLEANLINESS OF COMPLEX. NICE POOL AREA GOOD SUNBEDS ONLY COMPLAINT WATER IN POOL AT THIS TIME OF YEAR VERY COLD. IN MARKED CONTRAST TO FRIENDS POOL AT SAINT GEORGE APARTMENTS LOS CRISTIANOS WHICH WAS WONDERFUL. APARTMENT WAS A GOOD SIZE AND VERY WELL EQUIPPED. DID NOT REALY USE COOKER OR MICROWAVE GRILL AS WE CHOSE TO EAT OUT. TV WAS 1 EUEO FOR 1 HOUR USED ONCE TO PLAY CAMCORDER BACK. BOOKED TRIP TO LOROPARQUE THROUGH RECEPTION GOOD PRICE PICKED UP AND DROPPED OFF BY BANK ON CORNER OF BLOCK.DEPOSIT BOX IN ROOM IS REALY GOOD SIZE COST 30EUROS FOR 2 WEEKS. WALKED TO PUERTO COLON AND GOT TALKING TO GARY A REP FOR FREEBIRD CRUISES. CAME ACROSS AS A BIT OF A WIDEBOY BUT HAVE TO SAY HE WAS SPOT ON WITH WHAT HE TOLD US.BOOKED FOR 3 HOUR FAMILY CRUISE ON THURSDAY MORNING IDEAL FOR CHILDREN. THE CHILDRENS ENTERTAINER WAS SUPERB REALY SLICK CHAPLIN LOOKALIKE WHO DID BALLOON DESIGNS FOR THE YOUNGER CHILDREN AND SOME OF THE ADULTS BUT ALSO TRICKS AND ILLUSIONS FO THE ADULTS YOU WONT GET BORED OUR FRIEND ANDREW AND HIS TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS ALSO CAME AND HAD A FANTASTIC TIME SAW WHALES AND DOLPHINS ALL DRINKS WERE FREE STAFF NARATED IN A COUPLE OF LANGUAGES FOR EVERYONES BENEFIT. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TRIP TO TENERIFE AND WE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR. COLON 2 WAS SUPERB, POSITION IN RESORT WAS GOOD JUST BEFORE ALL THE TOUTS WHICH ARE A REAL PAIN.IF WE GO IN JULY AUGUST NEXT YEAR I AM SURE POOL WILL BE FINE IF WE GO EASTER AND DONT HAVE THE USE OF ANOTHER POOL WELL JUST HAVE TO GO IN THE SEA

Well having found a real gem of a place to stay, in my most favoured holiday resort, believe me when I say this that I have been in total misery for the last 2 years..... as it is now march 2008....... as for the last 2 years of trying to book a 2 bed apartment in this amazing complex I have yes wait for it...... I have managed to get us booked for our return visit in july this year. PHEW! Now that was lucky. Clearly now I realise that the problem is down to all the damn good reviews good god what ever happened to find a gold mine and keep it total secret!!! come on people this is not a tin of quality street, and NO we dont have to share. besides I always thought these holiday watchdog people only look out for the bad, nightmare type places.......

Okay thats the silly sense of humour now over, so are these reviews right, GOD YES, MOST OF THEM ANYWAY. to all of those that felt these apartments were not as good as the vast majority, please realise that I am one of the worlds most fussy and terribly nervous about going away, all because of what I have read in reviews like this. I worry that the place we will stay will be a complete shoddy shed, and that staff and the security of a place will be some what slack! Rest assured these apartments are a real dream, so what if they have a rule of no lilos in the pool, for gods sake think of the safety issue in this one, imagine a pool full of lilo's, a not so competent swimmer gets into trouble in the deep end, ooops you can only see the lilo... one family holiday ends in devastation. no loud noises after 10. crikey who is likely to be in a holiday apartment in tenerife at 10.0pm well not us..... were on holiday for gods sake. so two rules... they dont seem too bad to me. so the good stuff blimey lets start with arriving yep you are made to feel most welcome your rep greets you and escorts you to your room explains about the key card and then wishes you a great time during your stay then leaves you to get on with it! So your all unpacked and raring to go, you have the reps meeting by the pool bar..... trips galore if you fancy taking one. warnings about all the touts etc and car hire availabilty. end of..... its your choice.... its your holiday. its laid back and left open for you to go away and decide if any of the above appeal. Usually we dont bother we have a favourite car hire place very reasonable and so far very reliable vehicles.

The staff: Well all in all fantastic if you need them they are there. they will walk the longest mile if you only ask, be polite and they will lean over backwards for you. now now guys lets not get off the beaten track with that one. The cleaners: sadly I think these gals are complete workaholics they work round the clock and start very early and seem to be at it all damn day!! lunch breaks dont think they eat!! still they are perfectionists and clearly enjoy there work so mums like me really do get that well earned break. having said that i still found myself yelling at the kids to pick up their crap! all 3 of them! well 4 if we count hubby:-) he's not here right now so I can get away with that....... Location totally great for everything the beach, bars and restaurants of all kinds. my favourite has to be linares just around the corner 3 courses for approx 8 euros didnt rate the pizza in any of the eateries in las americas mind they were a little thin and too crispy for my teeth lol! well crowns that is. So be told these apartments are 2nd to none particularly for a family of 5 + guest this year! they are totally fabulous and all families looking for some clean and close to all amenities for the ease of a perfect holiday you should try them but, if your nervous go for the week but be warned getting back again could prove difficult! We should know..... but will update this review in august! hopefully all will be as was, back in may 2005. sorry must say I really cant wait..... yep like a giddy kid!
