Galaxy Hotel

spent two weeks at the Galaxy (june) could not fault rooms were spotless staff very friendly and food good thassos is lovely island and the people very friendly not a party town but great for relaxing will be back again

This was our third visit to Thassos and by no means our last. The flight , ferry and coach transfer were as usual well organised.We arrived at the Galaxy with a little trepidation after reading one particular review which mentioned the age range of the visitors and the poor quality breakfasts. Have no fear the age range is mixed and the breakfasts are wonderful, something different every morning and plenty of it. I couldnt find one complaint with the Galaxy or the staff, everything was excellent. It is set in a quiet part of the town but if you want more nightlife then a walk into town takes five minutes. Paradise Beach is the best and the village of Panagia is lovely. We are looking forward to returning year after year and hope that our stay will be at the Galaxy as we couldnt find fault.

We arrived at the airport in Kavala and we cannot fault the transfers and the helpfulness of the Thomson staff. The weather was a bit iffy when we landed but we thought hey lets not worry too much about that.
We were duly taken to the Galaxy and we were quite happy with the accomodation that was provided comfortable and clean.
We settled in and headed out to explore our surroundings and were delighted with the lovely setting of the area.
After a few days it became apparant the we were amongst some of the younger people residing at the Galaxy and the place had a feel of a retirement home.
We were told that Thassos was a quiet and relaxing place to go and that yes it was still fairly uncommercialised. However, we were totally unprepared for the total lack of anything much to do and the fact that it was actually quite cold and the weather was bad
left us with even less to do. you couldnt sit on the beach or use the pool as you would have froze quite quickly.
we had know idea where people on the reviews said that the staff at the hotel were really friendly after several attempts at conversation and passing the time of day we were given a couple of grunts of a greeting.
The breakfast well what can one say same thing every day bread and a hot drink really. We have had bed and breakfast in Greece before but this was unpalatable after a couple of days so i never had breakfast after that.
We have to say that we enjoyed meals out especially at the Thassian which we would highly recommend for a good meal out. people really friendly and food really good.
Thassos is undeniably a beautiful island but we would not go back. Although we are not looking for loads of late nights or clubs or tacky stuff we would have liked something other to do especially with the weather being so bad.
If we had stayed another week I believe that I would have been in a coma. Great for walkers, bird watchers and historians anything else forget it.
We may be middle aged but this was just too laid back for our tastes.

We had originally booked a weeks holiday in Halkidiki but saw the apartments we had chosen on a sky travel programme and hated them instantly.
We asked Thomson to change us to the Galaxy Hotel in Thassos Town having heard really good reports from friends.
What an excellent decision! - We had a wonderful time.
The flight and then ferry over to Thassos all went really smoothly and was very relaxing and we had a lovely welcome to the Hotel by Yanni and Poppy. Talking of Yanni - he's a really brilliant bloke, happy, funny, generous and great fun - whatever you do don't wear 'new shoes' or next thing you know they will be on the bar roof! - Its all in fun and he'll have them back down to you within seconds.
Thassos Town was a little under-whelming for me - having stayed in Skiathos Town I didn't personally rate Thassos as highly - however, its pretty enough and there are lots of little 'tat' shops if that's your thing selling t-shirts and bits of jewellery.
The restaurants were good - we prefer to have more international choice than just Greek food and in Thassos in general there really isn't much choice other than Greek - that said, the Greek food was probably the best quality we've ever had.
Thassos the island is very pretty, the lovely hills covered in pine trees and pretty beaches with white sand and clear blue waters - and the sun sets are glorious.
All in all the real beauty of Thassos is the people - not just the locals but the tourists who are attracted to Thassos too - every single person we met was lovely, friendly and old cynic that I am - I shed a tear when we left.
We will be back - If you are scanning reviews deciding on hotels - look no further than the Galaxy and enjoy Yanni's wonderful company.
