Nov 2005, Mr B G Dawson

I went to the Hotel Gold in Bled in Feb 05. The hotel was very good, especially for the price, the pool, gym etc were all open and of an excellent standard. It is very near to the bottom of a ski lift and the lake, which is beautiful. The problems that the first review... more

Terrible place
I booked this hotel through internet hotel booking site with paying an enough money. When I checked in the hotel, the hotel reception staff said I booked an apartment not the hotel. It was nonsense as I have never been given an informaiton about Apt. and the voucher also just says about the hotel but as the arrogant staff insist me to go to the Apt. I have nothing to do but stay there. And it was nightmare. It was really filthy, old, ugly place to stay even a dusgusting insect on bed sheet. All bed were sofa bed and the oven was warm but never get hot. (they even locked the kitchen room at first but as I strongly insist they finally opened it but the oven was out of order.- they said I booked breakfast so they locked a kitchen, isn,t it a nonsene?) Breakfast was also not tasty as the quality of food was low. Two out of the three reception staffs were rude and nonsense. It was almost nightmare for two days. Because of this hotel my trip was ruined. After I come back from my trip I told this problem to my hotel booking site but they said they never given an informatin about the Apartment from this golf hotel. The hotel and Apt is absolutely differnet place as the star rate of two places is also different.(the hotel is 4, the Apt. is 3) The hotel is deceitful as they force me to stay an Apt that I have never booked and never given an information. It is a matter of belief and this hotel has nothing. I hate this hotel.
Beware the sofa beds!
An ideal hotel in so many ways. Super location on high ground with many rooms overlooking the lake; spacious rooms; spectacular pool - several, in fact, which children just love; excellent breakfasts (we stayed B&B); very nice a la carte restaurant; good parking area. The only complaint we had was that, in a room we had booked for "three beds", one bed was a sofabed. This might not have mattered had the sofabed been comfortable; however, not only was it very hard, the backrest folded down to below the level of the main part of the bed, creating a sharp ridge across the bed. We complained, but to little avail, being told that "they're all like that": the chambermaid attempted to build up the sinking headrest, but as soon as you got into the bed it reverted to its unsatisfactory former state. This was poor service and misleading provision in an otherwise excellent 4-star hotel.
A Fairyland
A fairyland location. Went to the Golf Hotel and Spa and had wonderful experience. Spa operators very, very good but manager at time...hopefully she's gone. was inexperienced and should not have been in the position. Went in October and the weather was beautiful. The lake with it's island and monastery and the castle on the hill are everything you could possibly want to look at from you hotel balcony.
Great Place
Bled is beautiful, both in the winter and the summer. The hotel looks like it should be the headquaters of the Slovenian secret police and is about a five minute walk from the waters edge. The picture on the profile is the appartments and not the hotel. But inside the rooms are clean and bright. The hotel has fanastic views of Lake Bled. The staff are friendly and the food is good for a Slovenian large hotel. The bar inside is a little disappointing as it has all the chrisma of a wounded badger, but there are so many good bars in town, that are yet to be overun by mindless topless englishmen, (although as easyjet now flies to the capital, it wont be long before this hidden gem morphs into southport). The slovenian tourist board are excellant guides, and will arrange trips and guides to the nearby mountains and lakes and national parks. Another lake well worth visiting is the glacial lake of Bohinj in the heart of the Triglavska National Park, which is only40 minutes by car from Bled ( taxis are quite cheap). A cable car ride up Mt Vogel is the starting point for over eight mountain treks for varying abilities, from beginner to the more advanced adventurer. One walk will take you over the mountains to the old Yugoslavian and Italian border where you can still see the remains of military occupancy if you are into that. In the winter the area lends itself to skiing, which is perfect for beginners and families., but not very good if you are good skier. For adrenalin junkies there is paragliding, or just drinking in the sun or just taking a two hour stroll around the lake. Avoid the pony and trap around the lake. It is for people of unusual size. Enjoy before it is overun
Can recommend the Golf Hotel
This property is not to be confused (as someone has done) with the Apartments Golf, which are nearby and operated by the same organisation. All areas of the hotel were professionally run, especially the wellness centre, and it is a welcome retreat at the end of the day. Rooms very comfortable (I had a lake-view room)with bath robes and slippers. The breakfast buffet has a huge range of hot and cold choices. I did not eat at the restaurant in the evening as there is a stack of good quality local eateries to choose from. I even found a restaurant serving Mexican fajitas! As I was partly doing business during my stay, it would have been nice to have WLAN in the room, instead of having to cart everything down to the lounge and setting up "office" on a coffee table. Would highly recommend this property, or one of it's sister hotels (Park Hotel and Grand Hotel Toplice).
Perfect Honeymoon
We stayed here for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been better. We were greeted by wonderfully friendly staff, upgraded to a 'Honeymoon Suite' where we found a bottle of chilled champagne and the most incredible views I have ever seen. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The Wellness Centre was wonderful and we felt really pampered. The pools are also wonderful. Book your stay now. Don't read any more of this review, just book.
Good choice for families
We picked this hotel because of the indoor waterpark since the weather was "iffy" and we wanted to keep the kiddos (ages 5 &2)entertained. The pool (waterpark) and wellness area are included in your room price as is breakfast. Overall we felt this was a very nice hotel. We had a standard room and the couch folded into a bed for the kids to share. Walking distance to everything in Bled, but really recommended for the water/pool/wellness area. Be sure you book any massage, etc. EARLY as they book up fast. Also be aware that a lot of tour groups use this hotel but it didn't feel overcrowded as some hotels can. Thought the room was sized well for our small family. We stayed for a total of three nights. Generally speaking the highlight was the pool area. If you aren't traveling with children and don't value this ammenity this may not be the place for you.
Fantastic hotel close to all amenities.
Myself and my partner attended a wedding in June and stayed at the golf from the 8th till 12th and couldn't fault it on bit . Bled is a beautiful city and a must fro all romantics. We stayed at the hotel on a B&B basis and the breakfast served was fantastic loads of choice to suit everyones taste. The hotel is in a perfect location looking directly over lake bled. We had a partial lake lake view which was beautiful so a full lake view would be magical. The hotel amenities were great and the swimming area is out of this world. All hotel staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. There is also a hairdressers and beauty salon as part of the hotel. We will definitely be returning and wouldn't look at staying anywhere else!!! Top class hotel.
Relaxation for your body and soul
I've recently returned from a wonderful 4-day Easter stay at this hotel. I really loved it. The room was very spacious and well equipped, the view onto the lake with the island and the church breath-taking. Food was also excellent, whereas the staff is particularly commendable. Don't miss the wellness centre and the pools! Entrance to the pools is free of charge for hotel residents, whereas massages and other wellness centre services are not cheap at all, but are still highly recommendable. Bled for itself is really worth seeing. The wonderful landscape relaxes not only your eyes but also your soul. You may take long walks around the lake or row to the island with the church, go bikeing or roller-skating. If you don't feel like rowing to the island, take the organized trip, becuase it would really be a pity not to see the wonderfull little church from the vicinity and the stairs leading to it, although the boat trip is a little bit overpriced. Take only sporty and comfortable outfit with yourself - tracksuit and snickers and obligatory a rainy jacket or something like that, because I suppose that even in summer-time, it is never too hot there. In the hotel you'll be mostly wearing the bathrobe, when going to the pools or the massages. Don't forget to taste KREMSNITE either in the hotel or somwhere out of the hotel. They are a Bled specialty and are really tasty. I also highly recommend visiting another Slovenian lake, the Lake of Bohinj, which is only half an hour away from Bled by car. You may take a bus, there is one on an hourly basis.
En par with Hilton
This hotel is set in stunning surroundings with a beautiful pool and spa. Everyone in Slovenia is friendly and the staff at the hotel epitomise the Slovenian hospitality style. Food is plentiful and varied. Its not cordon bleu but having spent 8 hours on the piste, I prefer a hearty meal and was certainly not disappointed. We travelled with Thomson holidays and from check in at LGW north, were met with the nicest welcomes that we have ever encountered on holiday. The hotel is pristine, good size rooms with mountain or lake views and incredibly comfortable pillows. Bath gowns, slippers and minibar as standard. Bled is simply stunning with picturesque walks and very good coffee. It is not for the pubbing and clubbing enthusiasts but is a good base for excellent skiing at Vogel. No more summer holidays for us. We liked Bled so much we are now looking for a property to buy out there.
