Great Holiday, Not so Great Hotel - Oct 10
6 / 10
Oct 2010, Anita

We've just returned from two weeks in this hotel. We had a brilliant holiday all in all and the hotel probably has the best location being right on the beach and just a short stroll into town. The staff were all friendly and helpful and were very appreciative if you tried a few words of Greek. The accommodation, however, could with a bit of TLC as it's a bit past its best. The mattresses were rock hard and the pillows were tiny. Our room (306) had solar panels, satellite dishes and aerials on the roof and when it was windy (which was quite often as it was end of season)the noise was awful, it sounded like someone dragging one of the heavy iron bedsteads across the room. Our neighbours slept with tissues in their ears! Cleanliness was fine, the linen and towels were changed every other day but my big gripe was that we had to make our own beds as the chambermaids just folded the bedding and left it at the end of the bed(as an ex chambermaid myself I found this odd). The food was okay, not always very hot but quite tasty although not much variety during the fortnight we were there. There was also no entertainment during the evenings so we went into town every night. We are planning to return to Tsilivi next year but not to this hotel.

this is our second visit to Strofades Beach, the first in 2007 and by choice again in June 2010.
We had absolutely no compaints before and have none again.
We have had a wonderful time and everybody has been wonderful.
The bar staff Dennis and Dimitri made days around the beach bar an absolute joy, many a good day spent with these guys.
New this year was the half board status, the food was really really good and we enjoyed our meals very much.
Everyone at the hotle was open and friendly and could not do enough to help.
A thoroughably enjoyable time was had, we met some good friends and will choose to go back again.

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Strofades hotel very disappointed. The rooms are very basic we were in 315 which yes it had a balcony and you could see the sea if you were standing once you sit down all you see is walls! the room also smelt of damp the shower kept running hot and cold and sometimes water would come up through the drain in bathroom. I think we only stayed round the pool twice as the pool seemed dirty and cloudy we either went to the beach or different hotels with pools that you can see the bottom of. The food was ok breakfast and evening meal except that god damned toaster at breakfast so slow. There is no atmosphere in the evenings very drab no greek nights, no quiz nights, no nothing oh yes they did have happy hour on wed nights cocktails 3.50euros usually 5euros but we were going into tsilivi town every night and paying cheaper anyway so it did us no favours. The only good thing about the Stofades are the staff very hard working and very friendly could not fault them. Thomson how on earth did rate this hotel a Gold Medal no no way.

I feel compelled to write a review after realising that the majority of reviews are written by disgruntled holiday makers rather than happy ones... (maybe us Brits like to complain?)
I stayed in this hotel last October and it was beautiful. As soon as you walk in you realise that the hotel Stofades has a real Greek feel to it. The staff were wonderful and our room had a superb sea view and was clean and spacious and quiet. We requested a double bed prior to our holiday which we got. Pool area was fabulous and the hotel bar was relaxing and quiet and the bar staff were fantastic. The hotel is right next to a quiet area of the beach and Tsilivi itself was absolutely wonderful - full of fabulous little restaurants and shops but no loud stag or hen dos. Only reason I dropped a point is that the breakfast in the hotel wasn't the best but as it's so cheap to eat out anyway - we did that most mornings.
Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

  • Advice: Go there - it's beautiful
  • Activities: Every restaurant was beautiful and the boat trip aroud the coast is worth doing

Last time I stay at this Hotel

This was our 5th and LAST time at the Strofades. The standards have slipped from our first stay there. The pool was filthy and was not cleaned to an acceptable standard until our last day there, we were told that "the weather has been bad over the last week so its not been possible to keep it clean", other Pools in the area were clean though. The Lift was not working in the the Block we stayed in and it would seem, had not been for some weeks. The first week, the room we were in had NO water coming out of the hot water system,we were told after a few days that the pipework was made up with salts and could not be cleaned out until the Hotel was closed at the end of October. We were moved to another room after a week, we had water but it was cold. After many comlaints by myself and other guests work was done to try to resolve the problem but this was not a complete success, we only had HOT water for 3 out of 14 days. During a power cut while having a disscusion with one of the receptionists (the one with an American accent), I was told that water and electricity were luxuries and we should not take them for granted (not sure if it was a joke but if it was, I did not find it funny at the time and do not now).My impression is that this Hotel is going downhill fast and needs a lot of money spending on it if it is to survive ( which I doubt ). In spite of being there before, the last time was June this year,we will NEVER stay at this Hotel again.

we went with a party of 6 adults and 2 children, hotel great breakfast good not a traditional english but you can definetly find something to eat with bread cheese cereals eggs garlic sausage and bacon on a sunday . rooms clean, a little out of the centre but not to much of a walk over the troll bridge (take a small torch).
overall holiday excellent food at lunch time really good the pizzas are fab. highly recommend i would revisit no problem, not a place for the young and lively as there is nothing going on around the hotel.
the only thing wrong is that you could not change money at hotel had to go to local shop to do this.

Just got back from spending 11 nights...

Just got back from spending 11 nights at the Strofades Beach Hotel. My Partner and I had a wonderful time and were very sad to leave.
We were very impressed at how clean the hotel was, our room was immaculate. The towels changed everyday and were always good condition and clean, also the bedding was changed every other day which was a nice touch.
The breakfast was a bit of a hassle as everything is in one corner so gets a little busy at times and mainly due to the toaster taking forever to toast your bread. We stuck to having bread instead of toast most mornings to save the hassle lol, the rest of breakfast was fine though, with something for everyone.
The staff in reception were friendly and helpful. Also the staff in the pool bar are very friendly too.
Theresa our Thompson rep was also friendly and there if you needed her.
Over all we loved this hotel it was very easy going and relaxing. The fact that it is right on the beach is a great bonus too.
Tsilivi the town was great with plenty of Tavernas and cocktail bars to try, and believe me we did lol. We would strongly recommend Jokers cocktail bar the waitresses in here were great and the cocktails were out of this world and plenty to choose from and only 3 euros each during happy hour.
We tried many of the Tavernas too and have to say our favourite was called Family, with The olive Tree a very close 2nd.
We took the turtle island cruise which we booked through our rep and had a fantastic day, we saw a few turtles and swam in beautiful caves. We then had lunch at St. Nicholas beach which is a picturesque beach and was included in price. We payed 42 euros each through our rep but you can book it in town for cheaper around 20 euros but i dont know how good this tour is all i know is that ours was very good and made a relaxing day cruising along the coast. And the boat wasn't over packed.
Yes its true you do hear loads of frogs at night when coming back from town but you dont see them, which is good as i have a terrible fear of them lol.
Overall a excellent holiday was had by us.

Just spent a week at Strofades Beach Hotel. Lovely place to spend a holiday, all staff are very pleasant and helpful. Towels changed every day and linen every other day.
Hotel Rep Theresa is gteat, nothing is too much trouble for her and she makes time to ensure her guests have everything they need.Pool Bar does a great club sarnie.
Tsilivi itself is great plenty to do. Restaurants to visit are Olive Tree(a must), Olive Garden, Benikos(great kleftiko) and of course Popeye's. As for the bar the Two Brothers is an absolute must, great fun as well as Planet.
Overall a superb holiday was had by both of us and we shall be returning next year.

Me and my girlfriend (well now my fiancée as I proposed to her on our balcony there!) went in September. We got to our hotel and thought WOW. The hotel was quiet, friendly, polite and helpful, we had sun all week so was really hot!
The pool bar had plenty to offer in the range of drinks and food, the music was varied between Greek pop and English music, with the occasional sports channel played. We went to a nice restaurant just down the beach called the Boat House restaurant. The staff there were great - 5 star grub and 5 star hospitality, made us feel like family!
We were 10 mins from Tsilivi centre and there were plenty of shops to go in and restaurant/tavernas to sit in. We loved it so much we will be going back next year but for 2 weeks.
