Alexis and his family all live on the huge estate further up a small hill, his mother and family do all the cleaning around the studios and are more than happy to help if you need anything at all.
The studios themselves like all Greek accomodation is basic but very clean and tidy. The rooms are a good size and the views out to the gardens are amazing. The studios are situated in large well kept gardens which are laden with fruit trees of all sorts and the air is scented by the huge pine trees which surround the area.
Getting around Koukounaries is very easy, there are lots of little bars and tavernas all along the roadside offering mouthwatering local greek dishes such as mousaka, cheese pie (amazing!!) and even rabbit stew! The best Taverna to vist was a little one situated off the main road called Illias Orchard. Its run a local family who all pitch in together to make your dining experience one to remember and make you feel like your one of the family!
If you like your bar staff to be friendly, welcoming and a little bit crazy then I suggest you visit Stamlos Bar which is at the bottom of the road from the Alexis Studios, here you will find Deano and Effe who are the nicest couple you will ever meet. From the minute you walk into the bar, you will be made to feel like part of the furniture, Deano will entertain you with his cocktail making skills (the man knows how to make a Cosmopolitan!) and the charming Effe will be your table waitress who is always chatty and attentive to what you want.
The beaches are 10 mins walk from the Studios by foot or 2 mins on the local buses which run every 5-10 mins. Fares are cheap so buses are better if the weather is a little to hot to walk in. The beaches themselves are some of the best I have ever seen, Koukounaries is the main beach which has golden sands and crystal clear waters, excellent if you love watersports as they cater for everything. For those that like to get back to nature and let it all hang out, Bananna Beach is 2 mins walk from Koukounaries beach.
Basically to sum it all up, Skiathos is one of most beautiful of the Greek islands, Koukounaries is one of the best resorts and the Alexis Studios is second to none. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all!
