A 5 star No No.
from PigeonLondon
In our opinion this small hotel rates at best as a reasonable 3 star it is most assuredly “NOT 5 STAR”. 5* hotels do not have a shower “OR” bath. Especially showers with the type of small free hanging i.e. do not fix to a wall or an attachment, shower head your local hair dresser would use to wash hair. 5* hotel dining rooms (we hesitate to call it a restaurant) have a “large” variety of clearly marked “5*” food options including Vegetarian which, along with the additional cutlery you need to eat your meal (5* hotels do not lay up just “A” Knife & Fork for evening meals), do not constantly run out. 5* hotels do “NOT” charge for sun beds whether they are on the beach or not (you can’t get a “FREE” sun bed by the “small pool” unless you put your towel down @ between 00:00 & 03:30Hrs). 5* hotels have Tea / Coffee compliment trays and facilities in individual rooms. 5* hotel rooms get “PROPERLY” cleaned (though the towels are changed daily). 5* hotels have some sort of daytime & evening entertainment programmes, here there was none at all. We were also a bit concerned re Health & Safety Issues. There was a large piece of hand rail missing on the stairs to the dining room and any number of trip hazards around and about Needless to say all the above (and a lot more) did to some extent rather spoil our Honeymoon.
Wonderful place!
from IslandgirlstuckinNYC
I stayed at this hotel last Sept. and I'm posting now to tell of my experience there.... it was wonderful! We did manage to get a room that was pool front, first level so that probably helped but another couple we were with had a inside room and they had no complaints. I'm wondering if the restaurant has been taken over by someone else? Is it no longer the mother & father with the little girl? She may be about 12? They were wonderful!!!! The food was delicious and we ate there everyday, 3 meals a day! For breakfast we would have ham & cheese crepes & lunch souvlaki and she even made us gyro one afternoon. We also requested something else that she had as the special the next day! The carbonara was amazing and the salads were great! I'm assuming that is is no longer run by the same people after reading these complaints ???????? Overall it is not a 5 star resort but there aren't many on the islands, if at all. Nothing was stolen from us, the pool was wonderful, the beach chairs were plentiful (we were there in early Sept though) and the food was the best!
Nice Hotel, thieving maids
from natty-mae
This is a very nice hotel, maybe not 5* but the food is lovely and the location, i only recommend it to young adults as the night life is only a short walk away and its great even though you have got to watch your belogins. I found some of the staff unhelpful and grumpy, as the maid had stolen our new digital camera they didnt seem to care and tried to say that we lost it which is not true so if you are going to stay here dont leave your valuables lying about. Apart from all that i enjoyed my stay and the nightlife.
Fantastic Hotel
from Michelle0987
Despite any other reviews you may have seen about this hotel. It is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed at the end of june and everything was perfect the room was large and the airconditioning well needed as it was 40 degrees. The room was cleaned every day and the towels and beds changed. The location was absolutely fantastic we were right on the beach and a 5 minute walk away from the bars and nightclubs. There was a pool bar where on an evening you could sit out and have a drink and watch all the people walk past. The only thing I would advise would be to take mosquito repelent as you do tend to get bitten. The food in the restaurant is fantastic just as long as you are not expecting fish fingers or chicken nuggets, which definitely went down well with us, during our stay we enjoyed Octopus, rabbit stifado as well as lots of other chicken dishes, fish dishes and vegetarian dishes. The service in the restaurant was a little bit strange the staff weren't very friendly but the food definitely compensated. As far as the resort of Laganas is concerned do try Santanas, which is next door to the Mediterranean Hotel serves fantastic food and on a thursday night has greek night with greek dancing and plate smashing! If you're in for a lively night try The Ghetto club and Wackabout. Cheap drinks and good music. For a treat grab a taxi and go to El Greco and traditional greek restaurant with beautiful food, great service and suprisingly cheap. Overall I was really happy with my stay in Laganas. Everything was fantastic. I would really advise you to go! P.S. If you want a sunbed at this hotel go down at about midnight to beat the Germans!!
fantastic location .food a joke!
from LUCYWestYorks
We have just returned from this hotel after an 11 night stay and would like to say if you are expecting a 5* hotel then you will be very dissapointed! The hotel itself has a fantastic location right on the beach and if youre lucky like we were you might get one of the sea / pool view rooms right on the front , The only bonus to this holiday!!! otherwise rest of rooms overlook each other in a courtyard like setting, great if you dont like any privacy. Rooms are clean but quite basic only a 3* plus at most certainly not the standard expected of a 5 * , Quite tatty in areas cosidering the age of the hotel. FOOD is the major problem in this hotel or lack of ! very limited choice and COLD! EVERYONE WE SPOKE TO HAD COMPLAINED EITHER TO HOTEL MANAGEMENT OR REPS, WE WENT 3 TIMES FOR BREAKFAST AND ONLY ONCE TO EVENING MEAL rest of time we ate out . No facilities for children and no entertainment at all .
Great Hotel - food awful
from WorcesterSue
Returned from one week stay at Mediterranean Beach Resort Hotel on 25th May. Great Hotel - room - staff - surroundings - cleanliness - absolutely first class - food another matter. Everyone we spoke to was complaining about the food e.g lack of variety of food (breakfast) - even to how it was laid out each morning. Plus it was always cold! We only ate once at the Hotel (evening meal) and enjoyed good greek cuisine in surrounding taverna's. I would go back to the hotel but on room only basis. Staff very eager to please - nothing too much trouble for them.
Not a 5-star hotel
from EdinburghCabbie
First of all, it is important to state that this hotel in no way reflects a hotel of 5-star status. We chose this hotel because it was described as such. I would be prepared to class it is an average to good 4-star hotel. The staff and their helpfulness, however, was definitely very good and if it had not been for them the rating would have been below average to average for a 4-star. The biggest letdown for the hotel was regrettably the food. Most people who have booked half-board expect the food to be of a much better standard. Because of this, we decided to eat out on 3 of the nights. This was not planned and we were disappointed that we had to do this. Our room itself was very good and was kept very clean by the maid. Again it was what we would have expected of a good 4-star hotel. So my advice to anyone thinking of booking this hotel on the basis that they are expecting 5-star, please lower your expectations and you won't be too disappointed if it had been described as a 4-star.
NICE HOTEL SHAME ABOUT THE FOOD
from pollandwes
A beautiful hotel, very clean, staff brilliant, pool very clean, 6 steps down to the beach, everything you could want for a holiday, just far enough from the strip for nightlife One BIG BUT, the food is awful, always cold and undercooked, breakfast, is ok but check it is cooked properly!! no variety, if your into octopus, hard fish fingers and rabbit and chicken nuggets for evening meal then this is not for you. We would love to go back but the food option is only half board with Thomson, As i say was one of the best holidays weve had but the food at the hotel spoilt it, Oh and NO ENTERTAINMENT at all!!!! We will go back but may book room only direct with the hotel, make sure you request rooms in the 5th or 7th block, you are guaranteed a sea view then
Magical place
from BedfordJuliet
If you are trying to decide on a place to stay in Laganas, Zakynthos that is a cut above the rest then choose this hotel!! The location of it is absolutely brilliant, with just 4 steps down to the beach, from which you can walk to lots of little shops, supermarkets, and to plenty of bars and restaurants. Its close enough to the main laganas strip, but far enough away from all the noise and people hassling to get you into their bars! The hotel itself is beautiful. The rooms are large and very clean, with lovely decor and nice furniture. The layout of the hotel is quite intimate with the balconies facing eachother, but it adds to the feel of the place and makes you feel like your part of a little greek community! Try and get a balcony room if you can (we did and had a nice view over the pool and out to sea) The food is delicious with a good variety of dishes to suite most tastes. The staff are really friendly and willing to help out. The manager is a very nice man too, and you can see he is very proud of his hotel. I really could not fault the hotel and would definitely go back to it again. It really made the holiday for me and it was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed!
A fantastic pace to stay, first class hotel!
from Ian_&_Hannah
A real first class hotel. We would give this at least 5 stars, the best hotel we have ever stayed in. We could not fault a thing with the hotel at all. The staff could not do enough for you it was a dream hotel. The food was fantastic every night, real variety and superb quality . The rooms were excellent, well decorated and spacious, a real touch of class throughout this modern hotel that keeps to some traditional Greek styles and blends into the area so well. The hotel looks small from the road but its huge behind and goes back right onto the beach which is really nice. The pool, bar and beach area were also excellent. Great food/drink served all day by the pool at great prices. The general location is excellent. Not really any airport noise day or night. A novelty to watch the occasional flight arrive/depart from a distance. Excellent facilities provided, from internet, gym, sauna, pool, sun beds, daily maid service, bars, shop, restaurant, games room. A hotel we would/have recommend to everyone! We hope to return very soon.
