The hotel is not bad, but someone steeled from my pocket in closed room about $304 :( that is very sad because $4 was two rare banknote of $2. So beware!

This hotel is really not as bad as the only other reviewer for this hotel suggests. It is definatley a budget option compared to some of the other hotels in Tunisia, but you get what you paid for- (in our case, only £260pp for everything, 7 nights hotel and flights!) Plus... more

The Marhaba Club is a clean well-kept hotel. At the time of our stay there was no sign of any building work within the hotel. There was a new hotel being built next door and if you’re unfortunate enough to get a room overlooking the site it’s not the greatest of views... more

If you are going soon, be warned. This is not a hotel but a building site which Thomsons did not tell us about before we arrived. About two thirds of the hotel is being renovated, plus a new hotel is being built next door with big cranes etc. The room and lobby were fine... more

fantastic but dull
the hotel is wonerfull everything is marble. there is a really nice shopping centre right across the road you are garanteed top leave there with something. some shopping places around marhaba club are fantastic for shoes i would take an extra suitcase just for them if i was to go again. not that i would though yes it is a nice place with scorchin hot weather but after 4-5 days and wee werethere for 2 weeks i was screeming to get home we had done everything and it was boring the entertainment was not the best araound we sat on the balcony every night we were too scared to go out as the men were terrible. over all it was a exelent place to stay but i wouldnt go there again the best bits where the shoppping trips, the food and thekind staff always willing to help you i would rate this hotel to bee a 4 star. = - ) . P.S. I MUST REMIND YOU THE FLOORING AROUND THE POOL IS DEADLY I FELL OVER ALOND WITH MANY OTHERS MANY TIMES AND MY LITTLE ONE WELL THE SOUND OF THE SMAK WHEN HE HIT THE FLOOR JUST BE CAREFULL AND IFF YOU GO THEMN DONT RUN.
Excellent hotel
Weve been going to the Marhaba Club Hotel for the past 5 years . We go again in August 06 Never had any problems at all . the hotel is always clean . the staff very helpful and the food excellent . The beach is a short walk from the hotel .
Brilliant!
Having read the previous comments, i was quite surprised as to what had been said! We stayed at the Marhaba Club for 2 weeks, and it was brilliant. Having started the holiday badly (Thompson, double booking us, even though we had had it booked for 2 years!!! )they decided to put us in the Hotel Saadia for one night (if all these other reviewers would prefer to stay there in Monastir, feel free as it was awful - you couldnt pay me to stay there!) We arrived at the Marhaba in the morning, & the reception was stunning - greeted by a marbel muriel. After filling out the forms we were taken to our rooms, which again were equally impressive, with a good size balcony! the porter showed us everything, and did expect a tip! the maid service was brilliant, everyday the rooms were cleaned and they were so friendly. Even though they spoke no english they still spoke to us! We left our small change everyday on the side for the cleaners, probably no more than 30p but they were so grateful! My boyfriend gave the cleaner a good tip on the first time after our room had been cleaned, as she had made animals out of the towels and fanned out our nightwear! when we came back from the pool she had brought a bunch of flowers which she had put in a vase for us!nothing was too much trouble!Kids entertainment was ok, Sam and all his team were brilliant with kids!! there was so much going on! we spent most of the day by the pool and the beach was literaly 2 mins from the pool! Definitely recommended is the man made town of Port el Kantoui, stunning - like being in Cannes! The waiters were fabulous, nothig to much trouble!! i cannot state how good this holiday was and we have booked for 2007!! probably wouldnt recommend half board as the food got a bit repetitve after the first week, howvere there was ample choice!! the breakfast was quite bland but the food by the pool and beach, was brilliant value! if you are a big drinker then this isnt for you as it is a muslim country so there is not too much choice and there is not much differnce in price than at home in the UK. you go on holiday and you expect to tip, its all part of the serivce!! perhaps these people above are just tight, and cant apprecate good service when they recieve it! NO PROBLEMS!! what so ever! definitely recommended as well is the pirate ship ride, 3 hours £12 on the sea, they do a fresh barbecue, fruit unlimited soft drinks. Anchor up in the sea and you can dive in, fantastic views. Also the water park, not massive but good fun and value for half a day! Beaches are brilliant, and it is quite clean in the streets! Medina definietly worth a visit, but again remember you are in a muslim country, so dont go showing too much flesh whilst walking the towns!! NO QUALMS, NO WORRIES BLOODY FANTASTIC.
Fine for a family hotel-based holiday
Just come back from Marhaba Club where we stayed for 10 days. 2 under 40's plus a 3 year old and a 3 month old. Weather was a perfect 22 degrees. Sand on the beach is very nice and clean and perfect for sandcastle building. The resort was very quiet (very off peak) and there were no kids club facilities open then but there were playgrounds and a mini disco in the sister hotel. You can walk straight through to the other hotel which has better communal facilities (entertainment at night and a nicer pool). We took the view that moderate tipping for all services was a given in this country - from waiters in the evening to the cleaner who made us towel animals in the room. It is expected and if you accept that a 40p tip every time gives you service with a smile and a more pleasant holiday experience, its all a lot easier. The dining room was very quiet, in fact the whole hotel was (it was their last week before closing!) but the hotel management remained professional throughout and the restaurant staff made a real effort and on the last night made us a full Tunisian banquet rather than the usual 3 * hotel buffet. The area immediately outside the hotel for evening entertainment was very limited (time of year). Got the impression that much of the nightlife was hotel-based which suited us but may not suit everyone. Locals were a bit letchy - to females and also as it was a bit of a gay strip - men too! Port El Kantoui is a 15 min land train ride away and was nice for cafes to stop and people watch from, little zoo, catamaran trip etc. The Friguia(?) Animal Park was a fun excursion and the animals seemed cared for but the organised trip was too short (2 hours once there - and if you have kids you could easily make a day of it - camel and donkey rides and all!). Would we go back? Probably but perhaps to a different resort as we used this one up pretty quickly.
Service at a price
I agree with the majority of reviews about the hotel: substandard service. From the first day onwards we were told 'maybe tomorrow' as an answer to our request for three adjoining rooms (promised beforehand). The same in the restaurant: The head waiter promised a better table where we would not bother other guests with our son's stroller, we never got it. Other guests' stories made it clear. When checking in, slip the receptionist ten dollars and you will have your second floor sea-view rooms. The same in the restaurant. Some guests had fresh bread and butter waiting on their tables, cloth serviettes and all. If you want any service you pay for it. Do not expect any to be included in the price. In the two weeks we stayed our room was not hoovered once. Dead insects, glass on the floor, blocked drains and stained sheets and pillow cases remained in place. (This was even after leaving a generous tip for the maids) On a more positive note, the pool area is excellent. Well-tended gardens, palm trees everywhere, friendly staff and a gorgeous beach. I would not recommend this hotel unless you are willing to pay a lot extra to get any service. Your money would be better spent in a proper four star hotel.
Disappointed at first
I have just returned from a week's holiday at Marhaba Club. At first I was quite disappointed cause on the arrival we had to wait for over one hour to get our room keys (which is not very nice after an exhausting trip). The complex comprises rooms in the main hotel building and apartments/bungalows called "The Neptune". We had bad luck to be accomodated in The Neptune where rooms are really run-down and badly need redecoration (especially bathrooms). We asked the receptionists to change our room for the main building several times but the only thing we heard was "tomorrow". We stayed in The Neptune till the end of our holiday. The old swimming pool is an eyesore but the new one is fine, though constantly overcrowded. As for food, breakfasts were really repetitive with bland food and coloured sweet water pretending to be fruit juice. Dinners offered better variety. Animation programme is a big asset of the hotel. I'd recommend the hotel to families as well as young couples who do not expect too much as far as accomodation is concerned. The beach is very nice but the sea was quite polluted and full of jellyfish at times (the burning ones!)
no, no,no
After booking this holiday a week before we wanted to travel, we were told by the travel agents this would be a perfect holiday for us as a young couple looking for a good beach holiday with vibrant nightlife. Little did we know that this would turn into the worst weeks holday we have ever had. On arrival there was no rep on the coach, and the coach driver dropped us and our luggage off at the front of the hotel and basically left us to it. If it had not been for another couple who had already been to this hotel we would not have had a clue what to do. Having said that, check in was smooth and the room was basic but clean with a nice sea view. After unpacking, we had a walk to the stunning beach, but all the beds had been taken so we decided to head back to the pool. We soon had to move as the smell of sewage became overwhelming. I will put the rest of our holiday into sections. Pool area Smelly, quiet, and not very enticing. Restaurant Very poor selection of food, breakfast was the worst ever. If i never see another boiled egg in my life it will be too soon. Evening meal was again ok but with chicken every night a bit repetative. Nightlife round the pools, if you are a family with children it was ok, but as we wanted to venture out of the complex it was very hard to find a decent bar. If you drink alcopops, tough, not one on sale anywhere and believe me i looked hard enough. Both the nightclubs we went in were full of locals who were only there too ogle the european girls. As a female i did not feel safe at any time on my own. The other recurring theme was older men with young tunisian male freinds. There was only one kind of lager on sale. Trips We went on the 2 day Sahara trip and this was worth the money but very exhausting and 2 days out of a week is a lot of your holiday to give up. We only went on this trip because we were bored in the complex. Tips The staff and locals are constantly wanting to be tipped, they not only want it but expect it every time they get you something. ie 1 beer 1 tip, next beer next tip. Be wary when going out and about the locals are very touchy feely, and i mean very touchy feely, be especially careful if you have children. Don't expect much at all in the way of nightlife or beautiful food, you will not get either. Our hotel on our last night refused to change a travellers cheque even though the exchange was not closed. My partner had to go to three other hotels just to get some money for our meal as we couldn't stomach another meal at the hotel. All in all would we go back? Definately not. As a young couple perhaps we were expecting a bit too much but when you are recommended this holiday by a travel rep who you have told what you want from a holiday you expect to get what you asked for.
The Unfinishd Hotel
The resort was a lot of fun for us all. However the Hotel was still undergoing refurbish, and quite frankly was unfinished. I complained to Thomson with a 20 odd point comment letter which covered a whole range from Air conditioning never working throughout hotel ever, painting balconies whilst room occupied, nailing shut emergency mid corridor fire escape doors, builders rubbish all over the place, no hand towels in any lounge toilets, dangerous crazy paving around the complex, the list goes on and on. The abysmal state of the hotel spoiled the good time we managed to make of it. I must stress that Thomson had all the angles covered in there small print in the back of the brochure, and fobbed us of with a sorry we have no control over local hotel management decisions. We wont ever use Thomson again, we will never visit Tunisia again. My advice to others is READ THE SMALL PRINT AT THE BACK OF YOUR BROCHURE
Great hotel, am going back tomorrow.
This was a great hotel with very helpful staff. All the entertainment was in the sister hotel next door but at least the kids could get to sleep at night with no noise if they were tired early. The hotel was undergoing some refurbishment but this did not spoil our holiday. The rooms were quite basic but could not fault the cleanliness. The food was good and our waiter in the restaurant was really helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to families on a budget.
