Arathena Rocks Hotel

A very friendly place that gave us a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Arathena Rocks is run by a helpful and entertaining family. Overall it was clean, good value, and trouble-free. The staff's excellent attitude created a relaxed and sociable atmosphere amongst the guests. It's in a secluded, peaceful location at the end of a coastal road (if you're driving, watch out for huge evening traffic jams created by an insane road system) and the only hotel in that part of town with a working pool. We stayed with our 12 year old daughter for 6 nights during the Spring Bank Holiday week. The hotel was about half full. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious even with a (very comfortable) fold up bed. Our room at the front of the hotel had views from the balcony of the pool and garden with the sea behind. We had two nights at this wonderful little place. On the tip of the coast SW from Taormina, the hotel is built on an old lava flow with it's own sea access (great for snorkelling) and a pool regularly refilled with sea water. The third floor room has a private balcony with great views (see photos). My wife and I recently returned from a very happy two week, half-board, stay at this hotel. It is family and very efficiently run, but with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We appreciated its private location at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, just walking distance from Giardini Naxos town centre and spectacular bay and its beautiful, traditional decor and furnishings. We stayed in this Hotel in August 2004 and were very satisfied. The Hotel is very clean and nicely situated appr. 1 Km from the town, on an old lava flow. It is good as a starting point for trips to the Etna and other places on the island. I would recommend, however to take a landside room in the hotter months as the seaside rooms do not have airconditioning and get very very very hot. We have just come back from an enjoyable week at this hotel and would highly recommend it. It is located at the quiet end of Giardini Naxos: a peaceful and relaxing location. The salt water swimming pool is in a lovely setting by the sea and there are many comfortable sunloungers and umbrellas. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. A wonderful hotel very well situated away from the crowded beach area, yet close enough to get everywhere. Clean quiet and well run. Very helpful staff when I had a car problem. Instant response to fixing a room problem. A pleasant vacation stay and a great value.

We spent a couple of nights at the Arathena Rocks in May 2004 and fell in love with it. The hotel is full of character, spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished in traditional style. We went with our 2-year-old, who was very well looked after and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We will be back!

I was delighted to find that I had chosen for my two week stay, such a friendly, family managed hotel. Comfort was the essence of this small hotel which combined the values of the old with the new.All members of staff were diligent and the chambermaids who excelled. I have never had my laundry so beautifully done and returned to my room in a basket.As a female travelling alone I found the attitude of the maitre d' and dining room staff to be antiquated - they were very unpleasant to me and I was considering at one point changing my hotel.
