Carlos V Hotel

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location about 10 minutes from the Old Town of Alghero. Seawater pool and pool area fantastic. Hotel very clean and modern although got the impression that it is not quite finished. This didn't affect our stay though. Lots of British and Irish people. Staff very friendly. Would advise doing some research before you go regarding restaurant etc. Great for a short break away.

Once finished this will be a great hotel, although it has gone through a major refurb it still isn't quite finished, however, saying that and because its not quite finished the hotel was only about a quarter full, so there were no crowds at breakfast or dinner, the pool always had plenty of sun beds, always got a seat in the bar area (which is quite small at the moment). Hi, I have just returned from 10 days staying at Carlos V and would strongly advise other travellers to avoid this hotel at present. Although the hotel has the potential to be lovely, it is in a great location and the rooms are very good, the hotel facilities fall well short of a 4 star hotel. The hotel appears to be operating with a skeleton staff and offers none of the usual facilities one would expect: There is no room service at all - so if you fancy a drink and snack on your balcony then you are out of luck! We have just returned from a weeks break in Alghero staying at the excellent Carlos V Hotel. I booked the hotel and flights through the net without the middlemans charges. Carlos V even offered me a 5% discount when they couldn't offer me a sea view suite. They also arranged the private transfers at half the taxi rates which was ideal when you have a tired 2yr old. Stayed here for 3 nights from 18th to 21st may 2007 Booked through simply sardinia - excellent service from them! Hotel - from outside looks very nice reception need an update to match the rest - looks a bit dated like an old people home. However eveything else is mint and fresh - very chic and modern. We spent the first 4 nights of a 2 week holiday in Sardinia, at the Carlos V and we were very pleasantly surprised. After reading the mixed reviews on here I was slightly concerned, so I made sure we booked a 'New' room with a seaview. After a quick 2 hour flight from Stansted to Alghero, we jumped in our hired car and arrived about 20 minutes later at the Carlos. A group of friends (both male and female) and I go to Alghero every May to have a get away from it all break. This year we chose the Carlos V and I have to say I was very impressed. The hotel was spotless, the pool huge and the staff very very friendly. It's a bit away from town, but the views were spectacular, the walk is very pleasant into town and there are plenty of taxi's for the journey back. It would have been an automatic booking for us again in May 2006, but sadly it's closed for refurbishment.till end of June. We would and will... more

I would highly recommend to stay in an excecutive room (new room) as they are large, modern and nicely decorated. The beds are very comfortable. The staff (especially the ones who worked in the restaurant) was very friendly and serviceminded. The breakfast buffé was ok but for lunch and supper the food was excellent and not very expansive. I would definitely stay here again!

We have just arrived back from a week in beautiful Sardinia. Flying into Alghero fairly late, we decided to spend three nights close to the airport before moving onto the north east coast. Our first three nights were spent at the Carlos V hotel. Some 15 minutes from the airport (taxi 24 euros) and a very pleasant 15 minute stroll along the sea front from Alghero old town. Carlos V isa real mixed bag. First the good things. The location is good with a reasonable stroll into town and some great views over the sea. Staff are friendly and the attention and quality we got at an evening meal in the dining room was excellent - a really good traditional meal while we watched the sun set. The waiter spent a good deal of time translating every item on the menu. The pool is very large and in a nice position. The not so good includes a very slow lunchtime service with limited menu, the beach is a taxi or bus ride away... more
