Just got back from my third trip to Amsterdam. This time we stayed at the Radisson and we were REALLY impressed. This is a classy hotel, but the staff are so friendly and extremely helpful it was a nice surprise. They let us check in before 11am (it was supposed to be 2pm) and they supplied a great map of the city.
The hotel knew that it was our anniversary and they put complimentary wine and spa water in the room for us, along with 2 years supply of toiletries!! :)
Although it may seem that the hotel isn’t that central, it’s right near a really good coffee shop (Rusland) and also about 2 minutes walk from THE BEST Pancake House that we have ever experienced (Upstairs Pannenkoekenhuis located on Grimburgwal). You will be about 5 minutes walk from either the red light area or restaurants and bars. The shops are about 7 minutes walk.
It isn’t cheap to stay at the Radisson, but if you can get a deal on the web it is certainly worth it. You won’t regret it and Amsterdam is a brilliant city with loads to do for every age.

I cannot fault this hotel, the service was great, very friendly, and efficient.
The room was clean and had a massive king size bed which was very comfortable.
The hotel itself is centrally located, only a short 5-10 minute walk to Dam Square in one direction, and the Red Light district in the other direction.
The breakfast offered a great selection of hot and cold food and the decor was very welcoming.
