" Just returned from 1 week in August... "

Just returned from 1 week in August at The Evelyn Hotel, what a lovely, pleasant hotel to stay. All the staff are so helpful, Maria on reception from the minute you arrive, and George and Maria on the bar.
Very well kept pretty gardens surround the exceptionally clean pool, and the rooms were kept really really clean every day.
The food on the complex was very good, and the lovely shaded bar area was very welcome under the hot Samos sun. Do not attempt to walk into Pythagorion, to the harbour, not worth it, just hail a taxi on the main road, it is only 3 Euros !!! excellent value, or the walk is about 25 mins. The harbour is lovely and buzzing at night, quiet in the daytime.
I would really recommend this complex to all ages, it also had table tennis and a 42" TV screen in the outside bar area, free!!! All in all we really enjoyed our holiday, and I think the Kosmar brochure does not sell it enough, it was brilliant.
Plenty bars and restaurants on the harbour, turn left and walk right to the end, there is a side street on the left hand side, walk down it, and there are restaurants there where you can actually eat on the beach, lovely. Would return to Samos any day, and The Evelyn.

" Just arrived back home after 2... "

Just arrived back home after 2 fabulous weeks at the Evelin Hotel. The studios were basic but very clean and we even had a shower curtain. Even though you are close to the airport it is not a problem as there are no night flights and it isn't a busy airport anyway.
The outside area round the pool is kept lovely by the owners husband but a few more umbrellas would help because you have to rely on the vine covered umbrella frames for shade. Maria the receptionist is a joy to meet. She has a story to tell every time you see her and always has a smile for you.
Now for the pool bar. The best bar staff in Greece. George and Maria are fantastic and make you feel so welcome. Nothing is ever too much trouble for either of them. There should be a George and Maria at every holiday hotel. I can understand why people keep going back year after year.
It is about a 25minute walk into Pythagorian along a flat footpath, which is fine apart from the odd wheelie bin and telegraph pole along the way. And if you don’t fancy the walk back it is only 3 euros by taxi from the harbour.
The closest beach to the Evelin is Potokaki beach, about a 10-minute easy walk, plenty of sun beds and parasols and a few tavernas.
All in all we can highly recommend the Evelin for a really nice relaxing holiday.

The accommodation was quite basic and rooms are small. Our room was situation at the front whish was very noisy with traffic noises, which goes all night.
The maids are very friendly as was George at the pool bar (he went out of his way to be nice to us) but Maria (at the bar) was another matter, I found her extremely surly & she'd only speak to you when she felt like it - quite rude on occasions considering it was our holiday.
Maria on reception however was lovely and very helpful. The resort was quite very lively with a good mix of food and a beautiful fishing port with expensive boats in the harbour.
This resort seems to be aimed at the gay/homosexual and Swedish as there was plenty of both! Nice place but the whole 'Maria' experience has put me off Greece in general I’m afraid.

The studios are very clean, if somewhat basic equipment wise. (No corkscrew, knife to cut bread, spare dish etc).
Hot water was plentiful and 2 towels per person provided so in some ways they are good for Greece. Pool area is nice but they need some more sun loungers.
The airport is behind the hotel but nobody found it a problem, what is noisy is the road at the front where there are traffic lights and so there is lots of tooting and brake squealing.
Maria the afternoon receptionist is a great source of information about everything and George at the pool bar is a nice guy and always smiling. The owners seemed a bit odd, not the usual friendly Greeks but Maria more than makes up for it.
We enjoyed good meals everywhere that we ate and the walk into town does only take about 25 mins. There is a brilliant supermarket a few minutes’ walk from the studios which saved carrying food from town.
The only things we carried back from town were apricots and cherries from the greengrocer.

The rooms are cramped to say the least , we were a family of 4 put into 1 tiny room. The only way we could get ready to go out was if 3 people stayed on their beds so 1 person could get ready, as it was so confined. There was no air conditioning, and we had taken our own electric fan, we were explicitly told that we could not use it and had to pay them to use theirs. In order to counter the heat we had to sleep at night with our door open, hardly ideal but the only way to release heat from the room!
Staff were rude and when I tried to add some comments in their visitors book they wrestled the book from me, they knew we were unhappy with the hotel. By the way, be prepared for an inventory check.
In conclusion, the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
