Brilliant location,1 min from St Marks Square. Comfortable accommodation for the price paid. Bathroom looked modern and was cleaned daily. Not suitable for people who can't climb steps because there are 60 steps to the main reception! If you time it right the porter will... more

Delightful Stay
from Revlee
I just returned from my first visit to Venice, staying three nights at the Locanda Antica Venezia. The room, shared by three of us, was spacious, clean and comfortable. The room had two comfy over-stuffed chairs, one of which had been folded out to become my bed. Despite the fact that it doubled as a chair, the bed was comfortable and roomy enough for one. The mangement cheerfully supplied extra pillows to make rest comfy and easy. The "locanda," which means a hosterly too small to be called a hotel is on the fourth floor (European third floor), and there is NO lift. A stout and helpful porter got our bags up to the hotel; though on our early morning departure the night clerk looked disdainfully as we sought help with our bags. We had been assured of his help, but in the wee hours and knowing we were leaving town, he did not so much refuse to help, as just ignore the fact that we needed it. That rude oversight is not enough to keep me from recommending the Antica Venezia. The location is ideal, the breakfast modest but fresh and tasty, the cappucino delicioso, and the shuttered room a real bargain.
Great hotel, great value

Stayed at this hotel for three nights in September. The location was excellent. Short walk from everywhere you want to be. St. Mark's Sq. was literally less than five minutes away. The breakfast wasn't stellar but for what we paid, it was very satisfying. The breakfast terrace had a great view of the Venice rooftops. This hotel is in two buildings, an older an a newer section. The older section was on the third and fourth floor of a building. The reception was on the third floor and it was murder climbing those stairs. Thankfully, we were in the newly renovated building across the "street", on the main floor. Keep in mind that streets in Venice are very narrow, so it wasn't a problem. The rooms were very clean, the bed comfy, good air-conditioning and with a modern bathroom. There was also a safe in room which I like. The owner and the concierge were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

We have just spent a long weekend at this hotel. The rooms are beautifully decorated with safe & minibar. A great deal of thought has gone into the creation of this small hotel. Also, breakfast is served from 8 am til 10.30 am, which can make life very civilised! It is just one minute's walk to San Marco, but is down a small alley so it is in a quiet location. If you have good weather, take a glass of wine on to the terrace off the breakfast room with a view of the bell tower and the domes of the Basillica and watch the sunset.

Great affordable accommodation,(1 min form st Marks square) even if you have to walk 60 steps to the main reception! Choose the right time and the porter will help you. We were lucky one way only. The Inn met all our requirments but request not to be in room no 2, its right next door to reception! We used the Inn as a base and spent all our time exploring. Clean modern bathroom and ample breakfast. Great sitting outside and seeing St Marks Bell Tower while eating breakfast. Cheepest transport to San Marco form the airport is the Alilaguna,(water boat) 10 euro's each way and took 1 hour and 10mins. Would recommend a trip to Murano (glass island) to eat in the Ai Bisatei, Campo street, Bernardo. A real italian restaurant where the locals eat. No frills but cheep, cheerful and friendly. Do not recommend, Trattoria 'Da Nico' La Traverna, San Marco. Expensive, poor service (waited an hour) and rubbish food. Would certainly go back and stay in the Antica Venezia again.
Excellent location at a reasonable price

First I'd like to state that the negative review below this one was completely unlike my experience. The person stated that the people stole from her but if you read carefully you will notice that she has a habit of losing-forgetting belongings. The Locanda Antica is a great place to stay in Venice. Venice is expensive but here you are right near San Marco Square but paying a lot less that other places. It's not a luxury accommodation but the rooms are nice and clean, the staff is friendly. Rooms are not large but are big enough. Be prepared for smaller rooms in Italy. The hotel is located on the third floor and there is no elevator. That could be a problem for some people but we didn't mind. I would stay here again.
don't even think about it
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from 9 day-travel in Italy. Don't even think about staying at this hotel. It was the worst experienc of hotel ever in my life. Here are my three interesting stories. Don't ever think about leaving your small belongings in the room. I lost two necklaces and my husband and I are 100 percent sure that they were stolen in the room. The hotel was the first place our family stayed in Italy. On the first day we checked in, we left our passports and some valuables in the safe. Then we went out of the room for city tour. On the second day in the morning, I was looking for a small bag in which my two necklaces were. I put the bag in my cosmetic bag at home before leaving for Venice. But the bag was gone in Venice. I said to my husband that my necklaces were stolen, but my husband said that I might leave them at home, because the morning was quite busy. I thought that it was possible, so we didn't not say anything to the front desk. After 8 days when we returned home, we found that the necklaces were actually stolen in the hotel. They were not expensive ones. One is a metal and the other is silver. If I knew that personal belonging could be stolen in the hotel room, I would have left them in the safe. The bad thing I feel about is that someone searched out our luggages when we were out on the first day. He or she didn't come into our room for cleaning, but stealing. Don't stay this hotel. The second story is about a coffee. There is bar service at the front desk. At one night, my husband asked for a caffe latte at the front desk. The owner of the hotel (a man with glasses speaking English with strong Italian accent) asked 2.50 euros for the coffee. My husband paid cash for it. On the day we checked out, we found that they had charged a coffee on the bill and it was 1.50 euros. We suddenly felt that we had stayed in a buglars' home. My husband told the man who gave us the bill that he had already paid the coffee. Then he excluded the charge. We didn't want to argue about the price of the coffee anymore whether it was 2.50 or 1.50. The experience couldn't be worse than that. At last, the third story... It was my fault that I had left an empty luggage bag in the closet in the room. I brought an extra bag for shopping and left it in the closet while we were staying. Unfortunately, I forgot to put it in my suitcase and left there. When we arrived in Florence, I realized that I had left the bag in the room so I called the hotel. A womand answered the phone and told me to talk to the owner of the hotel on the next day. I called the hotel on the next day and the owner told me to call them again and talk to the person who was in charge of my check out date. Then, I asked to my Italian friend to call the hotel for me. The hotel told to my friend to call the owner again. The bag has totally disppeared. They don't have lost and find service. Things are just disappearing in this hotel. Nobody knows where my bag is. The hotel owner has not even tried to help me or asked his staffs about it. This is Loncanda Antica Venezia. The location is very good. But this is not all about. If you still want to stay in this hotel, you must not leave your belongings in the room, even the things are inexpensive. They will break into your room to search for something. I would never ever recommend the hotel to anyone.
Nice Hotel in a great location at a good price

This was my second trip to Venice. This hotel was excellent value for money. In a city where you can pay a great deal of money for not very much the Locanda Antica Venezia was great. We stayed on the upper floor room 22, which was large by Venician standards. It's the one they feature on the website and was pefect for our group of two adults and two children. The hotel is very close to St. Marks, and is therefore a super location from which to explore this fantastic city, don't be put off by the lower floors of the 16th century building, before the hotel starts on the third floor. If arriving at Marco Polo airport, bite the bullet and get a Water Taxi to the hotel - it saved us about an hour in transit times and was just the perfect way to arrive, all for Euros 80. So in summary a great hotel that I would recommend especially for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.
Amazing value for Venice

Since we were an extended family of seven traveling in the summer months, I worked very hard to keep our hotels under 100 Euro. I was worried about the Antica Venezia as it was only a 2*. It turned out to be our family's favorite. You're in the high rent district - 1 1/2 blocks to Piazza San Marco, but have the cozyness of a B&B and decent rates. We paid around 115 Euro/night for our double. We decided this hotel is rated 2* because it does not have an elevator. Fortunately, the porter slepped the bags up and down for us - and we tipped him well! Our family took over the top floor where there is a living room and breakfast area. Our rooms were beyond that behind double doors. At first we were upset to have only two bathrooms for the three rooms, but it ended up acting like a suite. With the double doors closed, the grandbabies could run from room to room securely and everyone used whichever bathroom was available at the time. If you're taking only one room, you might want to be on the lower floor with bathrooms ensuite, or as another traveler mentioned, you'll have to go down a short hallway to the bathroom. The rooms were sizable for Europe, attractively decorated and comfortable. The bathrooms were modern and all was spotless. We especially liked the terrace with its' view of the rooftops. Guests enjoyed breakfast, evening drinks or even a card game on the terrace. Breakfast as described by others is accurate and satisfactory. The only drawback was nearby restaurants were pricey (I said it was high-rent, didn't I?) We found we were happier dining on the other side of the Piazza San Marco. Go past the lions at Piaz. Leoni, down the street Calle Canonica, around the corner to your right and over the bridge to Campo St. Filippo and you'll fine many affordable places to eat. The hotel is also convenient for the vaporetto from the airport or train station. From the boat go straight down Calle Vallaresso about 5-6 blocks, keeping an eye out for the sign on the left above the street. Turn left down what looks like a narrow alley. The first door you come to on your right is the hotel. Ring the bell and they unlock the door. The ground floor looks like a basement because Venice does flood, but not to worry. Go up the stairs 3 flight and you'll enter the hotel. Incidently the hotel is very secure, with locks and a camera that guards the entrance. We found the hotel staff very friendly and accomodating although English is not spoken much. Not a problem. This is Italy, use you're hands, they'll understand. The deskclerk in the afternoons and evening opened the Cipriani as a concierge in the 1960's so he speaks English very well and can help you with any and everything. This was the 4th hotel we've stayed at in Venice, all higher rated, but we'd return to Antica Venezia for it's location and warmth. Enjoy.
A nice budget choice in the heart of the action
from Stella
Locanda Antica Venezia is a good choice for those who desire to be in the heart of the city without paying for the privilege. It's only about a maximum of 5 minute's walk from San Mark Square. Since the building isn't located near a canal the only views you are likely to see from your room are other buildings and possibly the Campanile. Our room was moderate in size and nicely furnished. The A/C works moderately well. Love the windows which can be opened sideways and part ways (top to bottom). As in the typical Italian custom, shutters are used to block out the night. While we have a private bathroom it's across a public hallway from our bedroom. The bathroom was good sized but the water pressure was low and took a long time to fill up the tub. There may be bedrooms with in suite bathrooms but I never thought to ask before booking. Breakfast consists of warm croissant and roll which the staff will bring to your table, and a choice of drinks. Cereal, hard boiled eggs, and canned fruits are also available. No cold cut or cheeses. For some additional surcharge I believe other breakfast food such as omelettes may be ordered. The breakfast terrace/lounge area is at the upper story of the building. The staff is fine and I have no complaints; there seems to be a rotation, especially at night time. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of an old building. There is a porter during the day that can help with the luggage but I think it's wise to travel light since luggages can be hard to maneuver in the water buses, the cobblestone roads and the numerous bridges anyway. Overall I think this is a fine choice for a budget traveler who is not fussy about requiring a 'room with a view'. I booked with the hotel using their website directly and got a very good rate.
Surpassing all expectations

The Locanda Antica Venezia was by far the best hotel that I stayed at during my recent travels through Europe. The staff was friendly and very very helpful with any questions or issues I had. The location is great as it is only a couple of turns away from the Piazza San Marco. The room was well furnished and comfortable. No elevator, as the building was built in the 16th century, but there was someone to assist with the luggage. If, or I should say when I return to Venice, I will definitely look in to staying here again. Magnifico!!!

We loved our stay at Antica Venezia in the summer and would recommend it highly - in fact our daughter is going next week. Think of the many stairs as free aerobics! Due to it's age and location it is a totally charming place, steeped in history. The staff were most... more
