Olive Garden Hotel Reviews
" We have just spent 10 wonderful days... "
Submitted By: Mrs M WellerThe rooms we had were clean and comfortable and had a regular change of bedding and towels. There was an extra charge for the fridge.
Greek night was good fun, lots of interaction and the food absolutely delicious.
The breakfast is what you would expect for a continental and you can order a cooked one if you wish. The pool bar serves food all day, there is a good choice and all reasonably priced.
It is not far to the village, a taxi is 12 euros return, but that between four of us was good. We had some lovely meals down there, especially Valentinas and the Roof Top Restaurant.
It was a 10 min walk to the beach, the road is flat and quiet. The beach has a small shop and restaurant with good food. There is a line of pebbles, so beach shoes are needed but well worth the effort as the sea was so warm and safe for children.
We would definately go back again, but would hire a car to explore Rhodes as the tours are expensive and you have to add 3 hours pick up, drop off to your day.
Well done, Olive Garden, we had the holiday that we wanted and more.
" What a lovely and secluded place... "
Submitted By: Miss L NichollsPeter is a fantastic guy, has plenty of tales to tell and is very welcoming along with Diane.
The rest of the team at the Olive Gardens are great too, not to mention George the barman.
We stayed in the new block which was fantastic however I don't know how different would have been if it was the old block.
Breakfast is not much to shout about. There's tea and coffee on offer and it alternates between cereal and tinned peaches but there is an additional menu which you pay for of bacon on toast and full english breakfast's etc...
There's a small shop that peter runs for anything extra that you might need but I think that it may be in need of expansion!
As this hotel is not immediately close to any sort of amenities, hiring a car is highly recommended to visit the fantastic beaches that Rhodes have to offer.
If you are travelling into Lardos, Rulas is definately recommended, we had the nicest meal of the holiday in there, and its very reasonably priced indeed.
For any sort of significant night life, a trip into Pefkos and Lindos is definately recommended however, just to warn you, the taxis do charge an extra 2 euros to be called out from the taxi rank and to pick you up from the hotel, plus there is a charge from the hotel itself to phone the taxi!
All in all, Lardos and Olive Gardens is a fantastic place to be for couples. Not very suitable for families or young groups as there is not alot to do in the immediate area. Our party spent most of the time in Pefkos, the beach is fantastic and the glass bottom boat trip there is definately worth it, with one of the funniest ships captains around!

Submitted By: Mr R Overthrowfood was nice, but breakfast was rubbish it consisted of cornflakes or bread and jam 1 day and next day peaches bred and jam and so on otherwise anything else you pay for like toast 1 euro etc.
the air con was expensive 90euros for two weeks ypu also had to pay extra for a fridge which we thought a fridge would be included in the room at no extra charge,
the toilets are small and the air con was not very good in the old block but we were moved in to the new block and air con was much better and the room overall was much better.
if you stay at this hotel i recommend the new block rooms 401 onwards.
the location was ok but i recommend you have a car to travel to places otherwise theres a 15min walk to lindos town.
there is a 10min walk to a beach but basically thats it.
you will need transport to go and see places.
overall the holiday was good
" A pleasant enough hotel, provided you... "
Submitted By: Mr T HowittWe met a lot of people who stayed in the old part, or Cell Block H as it become known, and they had no air con, the rooms were small, old and in dire need of updating. The reception area and bar of the hotel are pleasantly furnished, and the owners are friendly enough - a part Greek part Canadian family, who usually try hard to help, especially the older guy, Peter. Unfortunately, the main water pipe burst in the new block whilst we were there, and there was no water at all for over 12 hours, which was annoying but not hugely problematic. Each room in the new block has a small balcony but you wont get any sun on it in in the afternoon/evenings.
The pool area is quiet, with a snack bar where breakfast is served. If you like cardboard shavings pretending to be cereal, or tinned peaches which you have to chase around the bowl with a ladel, then you might like breakfast. Otherwiese, its bread to fatten you up and give you indigestion as usual on continental holidays. They do serv e other delights at reasonable cost, including bacon, egg, sausage, etc, and up until 4.30pm you can buy perfectly acceptable snacks at the snack bar, including gyros, salads, and sandwiches and burgers, all reasonably priced too.
The sunloungers around the pool are ok, some with old cushions, but take 2 towels as they really make you sweat (especially when its 45c). However, they are rather closely set out, and many of them are on the grass outside of the pool area, in the middle of what can only be described as a field with sheep, rubbish and some trees in. We were visited a couple of days by a couple of geep - cross between sheep and goats that run wild in the "garden". Strangely enough, we didnt see any Olive Trees!
The hotel is a good half mile from the beach, which in the intense heat seemed to be more like 2 miles to be honest. It took just over 10 minutes to walk it, and the beach is clean and tidy with an area of parasols and sunloungers available at 7 euros a day for 2. Its a long sandy stretch, with a small restaurant behind and a small supermarket, so there is all you need for a pleasant day out, but further along and you will find the nasty German all inclusive resort in the Lorithia area of Lardos, the new purpose built suburb which is full of Germans, French and Poles, so with all due respect to those nationalities, you can get an idea of the difference in ambience and aggression levels!
Lardos village itself is like something out of the deep south in America. There is virtually nothing there, apart from a main square with half a dozen restaurants and bars around it. The highlight of the day for the locals seems to be the arrival of the regular service bus. The choice of restaurants is limited, and we had a reasonable meal the first night in Valentinas, but an terrible one another night in Savvas, where the place appeared to be full of the local care in the community brigade. The people in Rhodes Town refer to Lardos as Hillbilly country, and you will see why. Personally, I would suggest to anyone looking for somewhere to eat or a night out not to bother with Lardos, and to go into Pefkos or Lindos. A good and reliable bus service runs into both for 1.5 euros each way. The last bus home from Pefkos is 10 to 11 at night, so you dont have to fork out for taxis unless you want a really late one. Taxis into Pefkos are 7 euros (although if you book from the hotel, they cheekily charge and extra 2 euros and the bar man makes you give him 50 cents for the phone call!!!!!), and 9 into Lindos. Pefkos is more of a beach resort, purpose built for tourists, whereas Lindos is the old historic town. Lindos gets stupidly hot in the day, it was 52c one day we were there, but its quite stunningly beautiful and is a must for a couple of nights out. We took the bus at 9.10am one day into Lindos and spent the whole day on St Pauls Bay Beach, where the wedding chapel is, and this was perhaps the most beautiful beach I have had been lucky enough to spend a day on. There is a cafe/bar on the side furthest away from the chapel run by a guy called Demitri, and he is very welcoming if you make the effort. Great for snorkeling and swimming here. Pefkos has a nice sandy beach too, although we tended to visit the smaller one at Agios Georgios, just down the road behind Pefkos by Night bar.
Lindos has a wide range of eating places and bars, and the place is full of character with its cobbled streets. Anyone who does not visit Lindos for a night out does not know what they are missing. Pefkos however does have some fantastic restaurants, the best of which are Terpsis up by the main square where the buses/taxis drop off, Enigma down the "strip" with gorgeous rooftop terraces overlooking the whole bay, and The Greek House down towards the Central Beach - this is by far the most reliable and best quality food we have eaten anywhere in Greece and well worth a visit. On the way down to The Greek House, there is a bar called Fuse run by a guy called Kostas, a real gent, and a right good laugh too. His best mate runs the car rental place over the road, and you will get to know him too. A genuinely nice couple of blokes.
We hired a car for 3 days and went to Rhodes Town and stayed in a "proper" star hotel for £65 for the 2 of us (Best Western) and had a great night out in the remarkably chilled out capital, and also had a day at the superb water park in Faliraki, as well as the final day down at Prassonisi, at the foot of the Island where the 2 seas meet - this place has to be seen to be believed! Spectacular.
Rhodes is a lovely island, this was our 2nd visit, but we would definitely not go to Lardos again, and the Olive Graden is far too cut off from anything to recommend it. It was ok for what we paid (£270 for 2 weeks on 25th June) and we met some nice people there too. However, be prepared to pay out for taxis, buses and most importantly a car if you want to eat out in nice places, see nice beaches and generally have a good time, thus making this a bit of a false economy what with the extra transport costs we had to pay out to see some form of life.
Oh yes, and final top tip, if you get a choice, dont get a flight through the night. It really is a killer. Paying a bit extra to get home before the end of the day is well worth it, believe me.

Submitted By: Mrs A MaddersNothing was too much trouble and because of a shower problem we were offered a room change from the old block to the new block. I would class the old block as standard accommodation expected at a two star hotel but the new lock is definitely four star!! Also I understand the older block will be revamped at the end of the season to bring it up to the standard of the new.
Some of the negative comments I read previously seem to me to be made by people who have paid for a two star holiday and expect four star accommodation and facilities.
We found the Olive Garden to be an idyllic oasis away from the built up areas of Lindos and Pefkos. Beautiful gardens, lovely pool, minutes away from Lardos beach and a pleasant twenty minute evening walk into Lardos for an evening meal if not eating at the hotel.
Would strongly recommend Roula's where you are welcomed and looked after by another local family who will guide you through their extensive menu and ensure you sample Greek food at its best and at very reasonable rates accompanied by ice cold tankards of draught Amstell beer!!
We are both in our mid sixties and used local transport all the time apart from car hire for a couple of days to explore the west coast and the centre of the island.
A great holiday and well worth the title 'Small and Friendly' - thankyou Peter, Diane and Nicco.
" What can I say? A great holiday... "
Submitted By: Mrs B BriddonAll the staff were great especially Peter Diane and Nick who were always around to help with anything we needed (from translating instructions on tablet boxes to helping us undo the padlock on our case when i managed to lose the keys)!!!!!
The hotel was lovely set in gorgeous gardens in a nice quiet location although it is only 2 minutes from the bus stop great for exploring the island cheaply!! 5-10 minutes from the beach and about 20 minutes from Lardos village which has some great restaurants.
We would definitely think about going back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Thank you Diane, Peter, Nick and all the staff at the hotel for making our holiday a great holiday hope to see you all again soon.

Submitted By: Mr T W SelleckThe Olive Garden is a lovely hotel with nice gardens and swimming pool. The owners Peter and Diane and staff go out of their way to make the stay a happy and enjoyable one. We felt as though we were part of their family as they were so friendly.
We booked Bed and Breakfast as we like to keep our options open but the food in the hotel was so good we ate in every night but one.
The hotel is situated 10 minutes walk from the beach and 20 minutes from the village so if you want a relaxing laid back holiday as we did, it is the place for you.
" The best thing about this hotel is... "
Submitted By: Miss F DaleyThe staff are very friendly and helpful. In fact when we arrived at 4am, the barman George (who was just about to leave) was completely happy to stay and have a few welcome drinks with us! He also insisted we try various local inebriating drinks each time we passed the bar throughout our week long stay! Also Steve was great - when we were walking into town on our first day he stopped in his car and gave us a lift.
But now on to the down side.....
The food was disappointing to say the least. Breakfast (included in the price) consisted of a bread roll and jam. Therefore it is not worth getting up early for, and they should advertise as room only, I think. We only eat one evening meal there. The vegetables looked and tasted like supermarket frozen mixed bags, and the swordfish was very oily and fatty. By the way, there is very little (if anything) for a vegetarian to eat here.
The rooms and plumbing are basic. There was a large hole in our bathroom, which if I was tall enough, I could have seen through to next door. Also the pool bar plays loud British music non stop all day, so would drive me a bit mad if I wanted to sunbathe for any length of time.
To sum up, this is a great base for exploring Rhodes, but not a great hotel if you want luxury or to stay/eat there for the whole holiday.

Submitted By: Ms L WotherspoonThe gardens and pool area superb. Pool cleaned every day. Breakfast was adequate with option to purchase extras if needed. Night bar staff very good. Good base for exploring Rhodes.
Only disappointment was at Greek night I had expected buffet barbeque and the meal was plated up but the excellent entertainment made up for this.
There was some renovation going on but this did not disrupt our holiday. Staff keen to arrange taxi for you without charge for phone call.
Dining was also good from the menu.
Thank you for making ours a holiday to remember.
" Probably the worst place we have ever... "
Submitted By: Mr S BirchFrom the outside the gardens are beautiful but as soon as you step through the front door it all goes downhill!
Staff were not unfriendly, they just hardly spoke, no welcome or details of what's where, just given the keys and told where the room was (next to the kitchens and toilets).
The room was terrible, no air con, no room to move, no outside light on the balcony that looked out upon a wall and rubble. The shower was a trickle and the drainage was a tile with a hole chipped out.
The whole place was grubby and dirty and hygiene is a concern. The pool table had moss growing on it and looked as if hasn't been used for years. The pool bar was a disgrace and filthy we decided against eating for fear of food poisoning.
Breakfast which was included in the price was only Cornflakes or a bread roll... anything else you had to pay for even the toast! So don't think you’re getting a good deal here as you're not.
We move to a hotel with the same rating up the road and it was stunning. I cannot believe that this Hotel has so many good ratings 10/10?! It really isn't what it advertises.
They are in the process of building more rooms so the gardens are covered in rubble, fittings and everything else you wouldn't want to sit and look at.
An awful place in all you can get much better for the same price - try the Cosmos Maris instead.
" Our first time to the olive gardens... "
Submitted By: Mr Colin BanksFrom arrival to departure we were treated with nothing but friendly respect by all the staff. The food although inexpensive was first class and we found no need to wander off to the local tavernas.
The grounds of this delightful hotel are a sight for sore eyes and extremely well maintained by Steve and his team (sorry Steve!) His wife, Jan will bend over backwards, so the rumour has it (sorry Jan!) to provide your breakfast and refreshments throughout the day.
George and Steve (night) take care of your needs throughout the evening and night.
Peter, Diane, and Nick are your hosts and make everybody most welcome.
The existing rooms are to be refurbished at the end of this season and the new wing should be complete for next year. If you want to relax and chill out this hits the spot.
We will definitely be going back for some more in the not too distant future. Love and best wishes and a big, big thank you to all at Olive Gardens, Paul, and Colin.

Submitted By: Mr DW HardyYou just can't beat the way that all of the guest's are looked after like it has been said in other post's nothing is to much trouble.
In 2006 we went in May and Sept and upon our return booked for May 2007, it's the piece of mind knowing that you will be looked after.
In Sept 2006 I was taken ill and the way that Diana dealt with the doctor for us was next to perfect, she even sorted a get better eating programme for me and made sure I stuck to it - 100% commitment to their guest's.
I know the hotel is being enlarged a little bit, because once you have been you just have to go back. I have been all around the world but never have we had a holiday like the ones that Peter & Diana give us.
All I can say is see all at the Olive Garden soon. D W Hardy.

Advice: beautiful, very friendly locals and lovely eating places.
