Very nice hotel, as long as you can cope with lots of steps and stairs. NOT for those with aged joints. Nice people running the hotel, very nice indeed, limited English but they cope well.
LONG walks to Ravello, three Kilometres away, and if you can't easily walk back, then it's 20 euros/ 20 quid for a very short ride in a taxi of just five minutes.
The breakfast is same every day, and unless you have the nous to ask for a change it is very repetitive. No cereal unless you ask, no sliced meats, cheeses, or eggs etc.
Just "brioch" - (pastries) - and rolls and jam/honey/marmalade. Coffee or tea and orange juice.
In the evenings you will be asked if you want white wine or red, and Tea or coffee. IT IS ALL AT AN EXTRA CHARGE. but you will not find out prior to end of the hols, unless you are fortunate. I have no problem with paying for what I have, I just like to not be taken for granted, I like to be told UP FRONT!! It can add another fifty/sixty/seventy pounds to your stay. Eating at Ravello is expensive, a simple light lunch for two, with a small pastry and a tea or coffee each is about forty five pounds. I rented a car for three days. The hotel owner told me I was very intelligent to do so. It is really very impractical without a car.But with one....It's magic. Get lost, find everywhere, easily. Take your Sat-Nav. Scare yourself to death on the narrow Amaldi drive, and winding roads through the mountans. Live it like it is.

What a delightful holiday we have just had at the hotel Zi'ntonio in Scala. The hotel is small and simply furnished, spotlessly clean. Each bedroom seems to have a balcony which has stunning views across to Ravello and the sea beyond.
The staff are so kind and friendly, the food was beautifully cooked and authentically Italian. Although Scala is a quieter option than its neighbour Ravello it is still a superb destination if you like stunning scenery and lots of beautiful walks.
There is a very pleasant little bar in the village square which seems to be open most of the day, a great place to have lunch or an early evening drink. The Church is worth a visit, and buses down to Amalfi are very frequent.
One word of warning Scala's Italian meaning is 'Stairs' of which there are many, so I would not recommend this area for anybody who has mobility problems.
All in all I would give both the Hotel Zi'ntonio and the village of Scala 12/10!

Stayed for a week, hotel spotless throughout, proprietor speaks good English, staff all friendly and helpful, food excellent, views stunning, half hour walk to Ravello up and down so need to be relatively fit, would go again and thoroughly recommend it.
