" I travelled to Malta alone for one... "
Submitted By: Miss Emma Fraser
I travelled to Malta alone for one week at the beginning of July 2007 and I stayed at the Park Hotel, Sliema.
The room I had was large, bright, airy, and clean. It had a TV, fridge and patio doors leading on to the balcony. The hotel is up the street from the promenade so I wasn't surprised to find that my view was of the building across the street.
I was booked half board but I only had dinner in the hotel twice. I found the food to be edible but a little bland and not really to my taste. I prefer fresh salads and seafood, the restaurant at the Park Hotel was very much meat and two veg.
My mum and dad would've loved it! Breakfast had the same good selection every morning. Hot breakfast with a cold buffet including cereals and fresh fruit set me up for the day every morning.
The hotel had a lovely little pool on the roof of the building, was very peaceful while I was there. They sell snacks at the pool bar, I only ever had a milkshake, but that was very tasty.
The found the staff to be courteous and friendly, the maid did a fantastic job each day with my room.
The Park Hotel is graded 4 star but I would say it is more like a British 3 star. It's a nice, clean hotel that is perfectly located for touring around Malta. It is only 100m from the bus stop and a 10 minute walk from the Valletta ferry.
Things you must do when in Malta?
Have dinner in the Piccolo Padre which is overlooking the bay at the start of St Juliens. Try and get a seat on the balcony, the view is lovely. The food is delicious, beautiful salads, wonderful seafood, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Wander around Valletta popping into the War Museum, The Lascaris War Rooms, St John's Cathedral, and the Barracca Gardens. Stop for a chilled lager and watch the world go by.
I would recommend a cruise to the Blue Lagoon but don't go for the around Malta Cruise; it was rather long and boring. I wish I'd got a boat straight there so I could have spent more time exploring the Blue Lagoon.
Visit the Hypogeum but remember to book first.
I thoroughly enjoyed my week in Malta; as a 30 year old female travelling alone it was the perfect location. I was out and about, all day and all evening, not once did I feel unsafe. If you are looking for sunshine, history, and good food then I would recommend Malta.

" Once again visitors to this hotel... "

Once again visitors to this hotel will be pleasantly surprised. Staff are pleased to help in any way they can. Food is brilliant and actually tastes as though it was prepared not knocked out.
If you are stuck for a holiday -try this and tell your friends too, they will thank you. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The bus route is only 5 minutes away. Certainly my best holiday. I went last year as well.

" The Park is a little well worn but... "

The Park is a little well worn but our room was clean and comfortable. There was always hot water and the towels were changed regularly. We didn't use the roof pool but it looked clean and inviting. There is also a gym - not our scene! The choice of breakfast was excellent with a self serve hot counter. Waiting staff were plentiful and all staff in the hotel very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a side street but we could see the sea from our small balcony and being tucked away, this meant less noise. The location of the hotel is ideal for the shops, the seafront and buses and there are some good restaurants nearby. We would recommend the Tex Mex on the corner, the pizza place behind TGIs on the other side of the road (good value) and the Time Square bar which is lively and friendly. However watch out for being trapped by timeshare sellers lurking on the promenade - this happened to us and although it wasn't a disaster, it was a little annoying and a waste of time.
We would certainly return to this hotel. The reason we didn't give a '10' is that the air con in our room was defunct which could be a problem in the height of season. We were told however that the hotel is due a refurb so perhaps this will be addressed.

" As soon as the plane landed in Malta... "

As soon as the plane landed in Malta you were made to feel more like a person and not a tourist.
We arrived at the hotel and were met by friendly staff.
The room was of exceptional standards and very clean.
The food was varied and was also exceptional. (Especially the Desert's). We must have piled on a stone in a week.
On the whole a truly remarkable holiday.
RECOMENDED TO ALL.
