we have just returned from aweeks stay at the white dolphin.
the apartment we stayed in was a two bedroom apartment which was a good size with plenty of room for myself wife and 3 kids, however there is where the good points end!!!!!
it was filthy, worktops were sticky, oven was disgusting, floors were filthy, mirror in the livng area was thick with grease and there was crisps and crumbs under the table!!!!!
self catering apartments, however we were unable to cook as none of the rings on the hob worked and so it goes on!!!
not been able to cook however did have a plus side, we ate downstairs in the restaurant everynight and im glad we did, it was amazing!!
the food was delightful the staff were very friendly, so much so my brother in law offered one of them a job!!!
to sum up, would i stay there again.......NO
would i eat in the restaurant again........YES

On Dis Ting- Malta Away 2011

Apartment was basic but perfect for price with nice balcony overseeing the apartment complex. Snack bar was excellent with good range of food and drinks served daily. Highly recommend the all you can eat BBQ night on the Friday, we got stuck right in- Maltese sausage was a highlight amongst a variety of ohther tasty meats and salads.
Surrounding area is good for the fact that it has a large number of restaurants catering for all tastes within 15-20 min pleasant stroll. Cannot remember the names of any of the places we went in but every meal was at least 7/10- nothing bad to report at all. The apartments themselves served up an equally good dinner menu and many locals were seen coming to wine and dine at night.
Other highlights of surrounding area included very naughty bar sponsored by Portsmouth FC, located an arms width from an equally naughty little turf accountant shop. If you like ghetto riddems whilst playing pool and watching locals have a barmy with each other, look no further.
Finally, the local brew Cisk was fantastic and cheap. Will be going back for this alone sometime in the future!

This place was all round great. We were a family & asked for invalid accomodation..........All rooms qualified for this!!! Food was great & reasonable. Apartments were clean. Ants were a small issue BUT, having lived in Italy & Spain, ants are a fact of life in Europe...... Nice touch was clothes horse on balcony. TV remote was delivered by man who tuned it in!!! Only a couple of Euros a day & tons of channels. Room safe was very cheap too. The grocery service was unbelievable!! Order your groceries, leave at bar & they are DELIVERED TO YOUR ROOM at ASDA prices!!!!!!All staff were very nice & helpful. Leno the Jack of all trades weemed to work 24/7 & was always cheerful. Bar prices were really good too & seemed to be open whenever there were customers wanting to drink!!! Pool area lovely & kid friendly. Pretty central, on front seawalk & ALWAYS available parking at gates to hotel.
Overall, if returning to Malta would book here.

Ive just returned from a weeks holiday, staying at the White Dolphin, and having read some of the previous reviews before going, I was a bit apprehensive. This turned out to be unnecessary as I had a very large, clean apartment with a balcony overlooking the pool area. The hotel is ideally situated for those who like to explore, and as the bus stops directly in front of the hotel, getting to any part of the island was easy. There are plenty of small supermarkets and shops, as well as restaurants and takeaways, within walking distance, should you feel the need. Before booking to go anywhere, just consider a few things.......if you want five star accomodation, in a busy area and all you want to do is sit by a pool.....then pay for that privelage !!!

I spent 10 days in the White Dolphin with my partner in October this year. We had booked our room unbelievably cheap so we didn`t expect too much for that money we had paid for it. The apartment was basic and not spotless but was fresh and spacious and the most important things like bedding and bathroom were nice and clean. The location of the White Dolphin is perfect if you want to discover Malta. You can get to the bus terminus less than 15 minutes walking and from there you can get everywhere by bus. And finally an other good news for people who want to stay in the Dolphin in the future: the Dolphin`s restaurant is excellent! We tried a few restaurants throughout the island but far the best food we got in the Dolphin`s own restaurant. Look for Attila the chef for the most delicious meal on your holiday. And also the bar staff are very friendly and helpful.
We will definitely return to Malta and the White Dolphin as soon as possible.

Like other reviews we were shocked when we were shown to apartment 104, located at the back of the building, with a wall for a view 2metres away from our kitchen balcony. We found the apartment dark, and needed lights on whenever we were there, it was difficult to ascertain what type of day it was as we could only see a limited area of sky from the apartment. However the apartment was clean, but very basic. The staff were helpful and we believe they would have moved us to another apartment if one had been available, we were advised that the basic room was all we were entitled to via the booking agent we had used. We now know our accommodation provider was Hotels4U.In addtiton there were also many hidden costs we were not aware of, prior to booking. Extra charges for use of the air con, televison and a padlock for the safe if you wished to use it were applicable.

I stayed at White Dolphin last year with my daughter and had a brilliant time. This year i took my sister, who has never travelled abroad before. We had a ball for the full two weeks! Lino, Atilla and Kevin in the restaurant spoiled us rotten and served the most excellent food from pizza to exquisite sea bass and rabbit. The apartment was clean, basic but well equipped, with a balcony that gave stunning views of the harbour. Jamie, the Thomas Cook rep was helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. My sister is now as smitten with Malta as i am and we are very much looking forward to returning to White Dolphin next year. As pointed out in other reviews, it is not the Ritz, but is certainly perfect for a relaxing holiday and as a base to explore Malta, Gozo and Comino.

We have just returned from a week in Malta, staying at the White Dolphin. We arrived at 4.30 in the morning and were shown to our 1st floor room, which was at the back of the building and overlooked a brick wall, a bit of a shock, but we didn't go there to sit in our room so we made the most of it.For what we paid, we couldn't complain, our stay in Malta was fantastic,If you want The Ritz, pay Ritz prices.

I have been to malta many times but never been to the white dolphin i have no complaints about it you only use the room as a base your not living in it some people winge about the slightest thing like mrs c lee. They book a cheap holiday and expect it to be like the ritz i would rather go to malta than turkey or spain you dont get hassled all the time or pounced on by timeshare people i shall go back again.

Malta is like Marmite.....

I am surprised when I hear people saying they hated Malta, I thought it had everything for such a small island. Yes the pool was a bit chilly as it is "solar" heated, and the hotel was in the shade from about 1ish, but if you wanted to use it as a friendly, and hassle free base it was perfect.
My husband and I found it very clean, in an excellent state of decor, and what I would expect from a self catering studio in the med. Yes it could be noisy, but we found this was from some younger guests who were also staying there who rolled in at 3am most mornings and were roaring drunk rather than the hotel staff themselves.
The staff were always friendly, helpful, and couldn't do enough for us.
then again, the taxi driver said to us that Malta was like marmite, you either loved it or hated it............but I really couldn't find any fault at all in this resort and would recommend it if someone is genuinely looking for an SC room, but not if you are going expecting hotel style accomodation.
