A pleasant location.
After such a miserable summer my wife and I decided to try to get a bit of sun before it was too late. We are not normally a fan of the Canaries as many of the resorts are over-developed with, frankly, too much hassle, but Lanzarote, and Playa Blanca in particular, sounded a little more like it. So it proved. We stayed at the Pueblo Marinero Apartments, close to the new(ish) Marina Rubicon, late September to early October 2007 (booked through Thomsons). The apartment in which we stayed, number 18, was huge and could have accommodated a family of 6, although I understand that the better situated apartments close to the pleasant pool area are a little smaller. There were two double bedrooms, two loos, bathroom, fully equipped kiitchen/ diner, large lounge area with TV, and both a patio and a veranda. It would have rated an excellent grading but there was a leak in the utility area that had spread moisture to some of the internal walls, resulting in the paint flaking away. This was a minor quibble however. There is a small bar and restaurant close to the pool, above which is a larger restaurant which provides more substantial fare. This was untried because there are numerous restaurants in the Marina (try Lini's for its fine location and feeding the mullet) or in Playa Blanca itself, which is a pleasant 20 minute stroll away along the promenade with views across the straits to Fuerteventura. Just across the road from the apartments there is a retail/leisure centre with a supermarket, shops, bowl and bar but, apart from the supermarket, the place seemed very quiet and it is not the place to go for evening entertainment if you like to enjoy at least a little atmosphere! Playa Blanca, on the contrary, has a busy restaurant and bar scene, although it is not a suitable location for those who want to dance the night away. The resort is still growing and there are areas that have been left as unnattractive, undeveloped wasteland (particularly around the Pueblo Marinero) but this should not detract from your appreciation of a quite attractive resort which is being sympathetically developed. Lanzarote itself boasts a number of worthwhile attractions, particularly the National Park of Timanfaya, with its lunar landscapes and still warm volcanism, and even a one day car hire should be sufficient to give you a brief overview of most of the island. With temperature around 26C, and largely sunny conditions, the weather was just about perfect. Overall the trip was good value for money and it delivered what it promised.
A great experience
These apartments are excellent. The site is small and peaceful so we had a relaxing stay. The apartments are not situated actually in the marina but it is literally a 2 minute walk. Once there you have a choice of international restaurants for eating. These restaurants are about 2 or 3 euros more expensive than in Playa Blaca (20 min walk or 5 mins in taxi) but well worth the extra. We had a 2nd floor room with a terrace. The rooms were clean and well presented. We had one large bedroom with twin beds, bathroom had 2 sinks, a bath with shower over and a separate shower and toilet. Rooms are cleaned every day except Sunday and Wednesday which are the main change over days. The pool aera is spotless with plenty of sunbeds never had a problem getting one even though there were germans staying! (It states in the handbook reservations of sunbeds is strictly forbidden). A small shopping mall is across the road which has a supermarket for all you need. We were self catering but there is a buffet restaurant you can book if you want. We didn't bother as the choice of restaurants both in the marina and in Playa Blanca are so great. We will be going back.
Had a great time
Just arrived home from a week at the Pueblo Marinero. Very relaxing time. Apartment was clean, very spacious much larger than we expected. Complex was only a third full which suited us, no scramble for loungers on a morning. Pool was spotless, jacuzzi was not working they were waiting for a new pipe. Pool bar was ok for drinks but hot snacks weren't up to much, we went to Lani's snack bar for breakfast/lunch only 1 min walk away. The beach 10 min walk away was beautiful, on a night the snack bar is a cocktail bar playing chillout music worth a visit. The best breakfast is past the ferry terminal at the Irish Anvil bar 35 min walk. Overall the holiday was excellent, it was a nice quiet resort exactly what we wanted as it was our first holiday with our 9 month old son.
Disappointing
This is the third time that four of us have stayed in Playa Blanca and love the resort and especially the marina area. That was the reason for staying at the appartments. We had asked for rooms next to each other. We arrived and only one room was ready so the four of us went to view it!!!! It was on the ground floor overlooking a wall, the back of other rooms and behind us was the children's play area. We are four grand parents and love our children but do not want other children at our back door! We asked for alternative accommodation and eventually we were placed in a two bedroom appartment. The floor space was more than adequate but the utensils were limited and we only have breakfast and drinks! The towels were tatty torn and grubby! We had two sand storms and the rooms were not cleaned for those two days. Talk about sand between the toes - it was everywhere, including the loo rolls! It was certainly not the standard of our previous hotels. We had a good holiday in spite of this and recommend Playa Blanca to those who love a quite holiday with good food and friendly people.
great holiday
Having booked this holiday for my husband, myself and 2 children aged 8 and 6 on the internet for allocation on arrival we did not know what to expect. Our room was huge and faced the swimming pool . The quality of service was great and the cleanliness was second to none. The swimming pool was warm !! clean and had plenty of brand new loungers while the bar was open for snacks and drinks. Overall we were extremely satisfied with our holiday and would not hesitate to book here again.
peaceful place
We just came back from the hotel and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are big and we had a beautiful view to the sea (not in every apartment). People were friendly at the reception and cleaning was 6 times a week, towels were changed at least twice a week. I especially loved the location: Marina Rubicon in Christmas decoration was beautiful. If you're not looking for a crowded tourist resort, this is the place for you. We ate quite a few times at Lani's, which was fine. They'll be opening an a la carte restaurant at the hotel as well, so there'll be more opportunities to eat. And it's not far away from the restaurants in the center of Playa Blanca, so that's not a problem, either.
Convenient, spacious and clean
Have just got back from a week here with my friends, and can highly recommend it! The appartments are spacious (we had a duplex with balcony and terrace, between 3 of us!), clean, well furnished - especially the kitchen - and well located. Try and book in block 3, where you have a pool, plus baby pool, right outside your door, as well as the main pool area. The marina, where the appartments are situated, is still being developed, so was quite quiet, but there are some good restaurants. The main centre of playa blanca is only a 2 euro taxi away, or you can walk in 15 minutes - to the first set of bars and restaurants - or 30 minutes to the main centre. The only negative thing to say about playa blanca / lanzarote in general is that I would find it a bit quiet for 2 weeks or more, but it is a brilliant place to relax and get some sun, and enjoy yourself catching up with mates.
Perfect for a relaxing break away
Me and my boyfriend are 21 years old and wanted a quiet, relaxing holiday. We couldnt have picked a better hotel! We booked it on the internet and was so happy to arrive to a clean, perfectly situated hotel in such a lovely resort. The room was spacious and clean and the pool area also clean, comfy sunbeds, not too busy, just what we wanted. The new marina in which the hotel is situated is beautiful! Its obvious that in a few years time it will be bigger and busier but nonwe the less was lovely. Theres a restaurant called Lani's which is a must! the fish was georgeous and it serves a great atmosphere. Another restaurant which i a must if your happy to splash out a bit is called El Mano. very posh, sits right on the marina. perfect and very romantic! Everything is in easy reach, theres a supermarket over the road (althought the employees are quite rude), the beach is about a 10 min walk (it was quite packed most days) and a 15/20 min walk to the center of playa blanca. Its a small resort with a strip of restaurants on the front. We highly reccomend the pizzaria called la Artista. the pizza was so great and the waiters very friendly. The prices are not that different from over here but its worth it. Cocktails are a big thing, all have sparklers in which is a nice touch! Our favaurite bar is right on the beach, called Dolarado muic cocktail bar. 5/6 Euro for a cocktail. Chill out music, great to sit in and relax while looking over to fuetraventura! All in all we thoroghly reccomend this hotel if you want a relaxing break away.
Excellent Accommadation In A Modern Marina Location.
My wife and I ( 50 something’s) have just got back from a weeks stay at the Pueblo Marinero Apts. My wife chose the accommodation from the information in the Thomson brochure as there were no reviews available. Once we got there we realised what an excellent choice it was. I would rate the Pueblo Marinero as 3+ stars perhaps rising to 4 stars once all its facilities are open e.g. the gym and kiddies club. As it has only been open since Dec 2004 everything is still very new and from the continual upkeep going on they want to keep it that way. Our one bedroom apartment was very spacious for two people and fitted to a very good standard, although we did incur a substantial under occupancy charge. We had a room on the first floor with a lovely view over the pool and out to sea, but the number of rooms with the sea view are limited so be sure to request it. There is a coastal paved footpath that stretches from Papagayo, past the Rubicon Marina (and incidentally the front of the Pueblo Marinero) and through to Playa Blanca. It’s a pleasant 20 min stroll from the marina into the main part of Playa Blanca. If you don’t fancy walking back after nice meal the taxi only costs about €4. Playa Blanca is quite a pleasant resort a lot quieter than the nearby brasher and bigger Puerto Del Carmen. The coastal path continues past the main town lined with restaurants etc. to the harbour where you can get the ferry over to Corralejo on Fuertoventura, €33 return pp on the seacat takes about 12 minutes. Taking one of the side streets up from the front leads to a pedestrianised shopping and dining area which is quite pleasant. We only had snacks in Playa Blanca confining our evening meals to the very nice choice of restaurants in the Rubicon Marina, a particular favourite was the Il Commendatore Italian restaurant. Probably paid a premium for meals in the marina area but worth it for the lovely surroundings. Pueblo Marinero has a buffet restaurant for breakfast €6 and dinner €12 pp. We tried it for dinner twice but found as it closes at 21.00 you had to eat early for the best selection. Having said that what we had was very nice. So all in all if you have booked this accommodation and this resort your in for a very pleasant holiday
Don't book this place
Just back from Playa Blanca which is a lovely town - but if you plan to travel there this year give the Pueblo Marinero Apartments a wide berth. First of all it is not in the Marina, so don't get excited about the lovely view you are going to get! The service is extremely bad from reception staff to the chamber maids. Although we had paid for under occupancy we were left with 2 cups etc in our cupboard - no kettle and had to make hot drinks using a pan of water!! The swimming pool area is not cleaned at night so very susceptable to vermin which was evident with silverfish in our room. However if you are in the town please visit Fiddlers Bar up by the Square you will be made more than welcome by a lovely Scottish couple and the evening entertainment is second to none.
