What a great place!!
from adamandphil
we arrived at the Electra at midnight so we didn't get to have a proper look round but when we did we were surprised that First Choice had given the resort a 4* rating but to be honest it was probably at best a 2* + but the rooms were clean and the pool area looked nice we stayed all inclusive for the first week and as ususal the food was buffet style and it was pretty much the sort of stuff you would have at home the second week we self catered and this was great we ate out 5 nights and ate at different restaurants every night eating many different dishes in the square. The pool was a great place to be and the other holiay makers were a great bunch of people every adult taking their turn to watch the kids playing in the pool so you could pop to the bar or read a book knowing the kids were safe The Entertainment was on a weekly basis so if you are staying for two weeks you will see the same thing so i recommend that you pop into Ayia Napa to where the pubs and clubs are the kids are very welcome as long as and adult is drinking and most will let kids drink free my kids loved this and kept telling everyone that they were going clubbing but the clubs are empty until gone midnight so it can be quiet. Cyprus itself is a beautiful place and i would highly recommend visiting it before the developers build thousands of over priced homes for brits May and June are great times to go its hot but not burn your skin off hot around the late 20's and early 30's also a big plus of Cyprus is that they drive on the same side of the road as us and they also have the same plug sockets as us so no need to take euro 2 pin converters. The only downside to Cyprus is the flights its a 4 hour flight and they always seem to be night flights and people are crowded onto a boeing 757 for a mid haul flight instead of a 757 300 which is a larger plane with more leg room
Nice Stay in Ayia Nappa
from jamesbailey999
Me and my GF stayed here for a week during the summer of 2006. before getting dropped off via shuttle transfer at the hotel we noticed that the other people who were getting dropped off that their accomodation looked terrible and we were praying that ours would be different and upon arrival it was. when we arrived at the Electra i thought it looked really clean and tidy compared to some of its sourroundings. when we walked into the reception i thought we had made the right choice. the staff were friendly and helpful thoughout getting around the village. The room was decent sized with everything we needed. it was cleaned almost every day, the air-con was a great edition as it was nice and quiet compared to some places we had been before. This was rated at a 4 star in the brocure and i thought it lived up to this. It was pretty close to all the nightlife, we went out almost every night as the local clubs and bars wernt far away and in the day we lazed around at the pool which was very clean and fun but it could be very busy at times. Or we went to the beutiful nissi beach which was a 10 minute walk away for a quick taxi call. overall i enjoyed this hotel and i would recomend it to others, i think that this hotel best suits people like myself as a young couple who come for the sun and nightlife.

Good hotel
from Janay_01
We stayed at the Electra Holiday Village in May on a half board basis, hotel was good, the food was good, only downside was the staff were very quick to lift glasses off the table sometimes before you had even finished it and paying for £1.50 approx for a small glass of cola I wanted to drink every last drop!! Rooms were fine, only problem was the beds in our apartment, they were really uncomfortable, it took us both 10mins to sort our bones out to actually be able to get out the bed in the morning, one of the English maids turned my mattress to see if it made a difference but it didn’t, she did say the manager had been warned that some of the beds did need replaced. I agree with the review about rubbish around the pool, it was the British who were leaving rubbish lying around usually the All Inclusive guests, don’t know whether they thought that they have paid for All Inclusive then staff should be expected to clean up behind them, which is wrong. Pool was lovely and was soo big you didn’t feel cramped lying on your lounger, plenty of space between us and the guests next to us. Didn’t encounter any problems with towels being out at am but that was probably because it was still early in the season. Because we are in our 30's were weren't sure Ayia Napa was the place for us but because we were there early in the season, we didn't see any crowds of youngsters falling all over the place drunk. In fact it was mostly families and elderly couples holidaying in the area. I would recommend it. .
Best Holiday Ive Ever Had (Atleast 30 Odd Holidays)
from lil_laura__x
This was the best holiday i have every had! When we first got there the room was fine easy to find great view of the pool from the balcony and view of the sea when at the front door. The rooms were clean , comfy beds and a good size. Even tho i slept on the Sofa bed it was still good better than others ive had to sleep on. The only problem we had with the rooms were that there were some ants in the kitchen coming from somewhere and got into our food that we brought from home e.g. chocolates and biscuits. The pool was a good size and cleaned reguarly so there were no bugs floating around and there were no safety hazards either. The staff were all very friendly and funny espeshially the bar staff of a night. They all made me laugh and made the trip and most of them were very good looking. Entertainment was ok the entertainers were excellent they were friends with everyone and i still keep in touch with them aswell althought i believe every year they get nw entertainers from an agency but im sure they will be lovely The location was great as it was only 5minutes from the main street yet you could not hear no traffic etc. and it was slightly hidden away. As well as the main street the harbour was only 20mins walk. The town was packed with loads of shops quite a few clothes and bags shops as well as hair dressers and tatoo parlours. The restaurants are great fair priced as well and every night for the 2 weeks we ate in a different restuarant and they were all good. Im sure anyone would be ok there as there is also a Pizza hut and McDonalds in the town and plenty of ice cream stores!! We didnt go to the famous Nissi beach althought our friends told us that it was nice and clean yet very busy. The weather was consistent, all tho it did rain quite heavy and had quite a few storms but there was no damage done and it soon went as first thing in the morning it was baking hot around 30c every day so we wasnt complaining. I made lots and lots of friends and am keeping in touch with them all. The only problem really for women there from around 14-late 30's is that they men can be a little pervy but they dont act on it luckily. Im afraid that my pictures arent on my computer so i cant load them up onto here. but ive ticked the willing to be contacted if anyone needs any other info al tho i think ive covered everything my fingers are hurting from all this typing lol joking.
Good quality Family Holiday
from Gwatty
An overall very good weeks holiday for me, my wife, our five children and my father. Booked as a last minute getaway from Firs Choice looking for anywhere in the med for all of us with a reasonable price tag. Got to the hotel early hors of the morning, but check in was smooth. Had two rooms at the far end of the complex which was annoying initially because we weren't near the pool, but after the first night found out it was a good location as there was no noise from the bar area. The hotel itself was clean, although the rooms were a little dated and in need of a bit of repair. The rooms were cleaned nearly every day which ws fine for us. The air conditioning was a god send and unlike some other hotels I've been to didn't cost remote). The staff were more than friendly especially the bar staff. The reps and entertainment staff we couldn't fault. The food was varied and well presented with a good choice for all tastes. I suspect that if you don't go all inclusive you could rack up a hefty food and drinks bill as nothing seemed overly cheap, but with five kids the all inclusive was the only real option for us. You can upgrade once you're there though. The pool is a very good size and cleaned every night. Not too deep with plenty of areas for the kids. The entertainment throughout the day and night is of a good quality with everyone encouraged to participate. Alex is a firm favourite with all. The beach at the back f the hotel is OK, but very rocky. Apart from the water sports we didn't bother too much with it. A short walk along the coast path will take you to either sandy bay or nissi beach which are both a lot better. I'd recommend this for families of any size, especially those with younger children.

Good value but a little disappointing
from UsefulKent
We first stayed in the Electra in 2003 and when we re-booked last Sept, it was on the basis of an excellent experience four years ago. At that time we stayed half-board but found the food a bit samey, so this year decided to go self-catering...good decision. Giving it a 3*+ rating is a bit ambitious but it was more than adequate for our needs (2 adults plus a 12 and 9 yr old). The hotel has changed little in the 4 years since our last visit and provides good value but no great frills holiday. Don't budget for a cheap holiday overall...since joining the euro-zone in 2004 Cyprus is not as cheap as say Turkey or Greece. Would we go back? Kids definitely would but adults aren't so sure. There are undoubtedly better hotels out there for the same money (we're off to Sri Lanka in 08 for about £400 more) but there's something to be said for going with what you know. Anyway, the following are just my thoughts and opinions on the various aspects... Hotel - Good size rooms; basic but clean and adequately equipped. Staff were helpful enough - nothing special. Restaurant - Not great (see under Eating). Pool - Large pool so plenty of space but you need to get your sun beds early (6am) - it's a pain I know but it's a system that works. Although the pool is actually one of the big plusses of the Electra, it also reflects my biggest gripes: First, the pool area is only cleaned between 7:30 and 9:00...before this it's a mess. It's not really fair to blame the hotel as it's the lazy, ignorant (and I'm afraid to say British) guests who just can't be ar$ed to put their rubbish in the bins provided. However this was not a one-off and the hotel should recognise this and do something about it like having the cleaning staff walk round 3-4 times during the day. There were also loads of kids with ear infections...if you're prone to these you might like to think twice. Second gripe (also relates to the pool) is about rules; like no diving off the rocks and no swimming after the pool closes. Signs are posted but (a) completely disregarded (again by ignorant Brits) and (b) not enforced so you can almost understand why those concerned didn't give a to$$. Location - right on the beach. It's a bit rocky but Sandy Bay is better and only a 10min walk east. Nissi Beach is about 10mins beyond that. West is a sea-front walk to Ayia Napa harbour about a mile away - great before dinner but it's not lit so don't go out too late. Entertainment - Not over-bearing during the day...the animation team just want to help you enjoy your holiday. If you're not interested they don't push...good for them. Evening entertainment?...one word...cheesy! Thankfully the kids were happy to go back to the room and play cards or Nintendos Eating - We stayed SC and were glad we did. Restaurant food still same old same old every day (we ate there once). There are so many restaurants within say 0.5mi and the centre of Ayia Napa's only about a mile away that you're pretty spoiled for choice. Recommend Dragon (v good chinese), Flames (basic but v good) and Gold Mine (Italian and v good). Head towards Ayia Napa for all these. The Garden Restaurant opposite the Nissi Beach Hotel was fantastic. Food was general very good quality but beware - it's not cheap. Prices are comparable with the UK tourist areas so a modest two-course meal for four with a round of drinks was invariably CY£35-CY£40 Trips - To be honest we only wanted to relax so didn't do many excursions. Those we did were booked through the First Choice rep and proved very good. Waterworld - actually cheaper to book through rep than on the gate. Get to jump the entrance queue but when we arrived at the opening time, everyone had these vouchers so our queue was actually longer than the normal entrance queue. Not cheap - budget £100 for a family of four (inc food and taxi) - and don't expect Florida-standard. Scuba diving - Half-day Discover Scuba. The cost is the same whether booked direct or thro the rep. Did it last time and it's great fun. Lazy Day Boat Cruise (11-4) - really relaxing and good value. Arranged last minute instead of a return to the water park and probably one of the highlights. Reps - Very helpful. What more can I say. I know it's their job but they were all willing and competent so no complaints from me.

tacky
from churley139
First impression of Electra village was of drunken teenagers , dirty sofas in reception and plastic containers for your drinks . The food was very bland and repetitive , food and entertainment was on a weekly rota so if you were there for two weeks you were sick of both ! Thankfully children made lots of friends so were happy , made friends ourselves and spent most evenings at 'simos magic bar ' opposite the hotel reception, which was lovely and peaceful . Children and teenagers should be given different coloured all inclusive bands to prevent them from being able to order alcoholic drinks . Felt sorry for cleaners each morning by poolside as many guests did not clear away their rubbish and towels were put on loungers by 7am .
