" Just come back from a weeks holiday... "
Submitted By: Miss C Wimbush
Just come back from a weeks holiday in skala staying at this hotel. I have never written a review on a hotel before but i think this hotel was worthy of note. Although the town was very quiet as we went the first week of the season, i couldnt have had a better time. The hotel is immaculate, the pool area is fantastic, swimming whilst taking in the view of the sea was great! The staff at the hotel were great, they really took the time to get to know you and couldnt have been more helpful! Angela and Christoph were great and michael the bar man kept our drinks flowing until the early hours! They do a BBQ every saturday night and put all the tables together so everyone gets to know eachother, very sociable and well worth the 15 Euros. The rooms were better than the average greek accomodation with great views and cleaned on a daily basis! Even the maintenance guy was great I have never met such friendly people! Be warned however that its quite a treck into the town probably a 10 minute walk if youve got a large step but an enjoyable stroll after a nice meal in the town. Nice tavernas and a couple of good bars in the town all in all a great holiday, as everyone has said, take a torch as the last 5 minutes of the walk is pretty dark but that didnt put us off! Hiring a car is a must! i've never driven abroad before and got to admit some of the roads are a bit dodgy but you can drive for miles without seeing anything so dont let it put you off! You really wont grasp the sheer beauty of kefalonia without this advantage, i have been to many greek islands and this was, by far, the prettiest i have ever been too. They cater mainly for english tourists which is great. I hope to go back to this island later on in the year after making some good friends out there and taste the delights of the open air club near by and the volley ball beach cafe which is due to open in the next few weeks or so! I am sure anyone who has been to this island will agree that its a real beauty!

What a fab 2 weeks. The hotel was great, so clean and tidy. Angela and her team cannot do enough to help you. The views from the pool bar and pool area as well as our room are ones to remember. We met people who had been before and we like them are going to return in 2008.
Skala itself is a mile walk which is fine so you can walk off your fab meal in the many great restaurants in the town, and if you time it right you can get happy hour in at the hotel and in the town before you eat. You will need a torch for the walk back to your hotel at night for the last 300 yards.
We could have hired a car and done some of the fab trips that Thomsen arrange but chose to chill out and this place is great for that.
The hotel has won awards for the last 3 years and can see why. Well done Thomsen, Angela and the team - thanks for the best holiday ever.

" We have just returned from a week at... "
Submitted By: Mrs S Findley
We have just returned from a week at the Aeolos Beach Hotel in Skala. It was perfect. The weather, the hotel, the pool, the town, everything was wonderful. Accommodation clean and comfortable and well designed. Nice large bathroom with shower. Great views of Skala with Zakynthos in the distance - a great day out. The three island cruise to Skorpios, Lefkas and Meganassi is spectacular as are Fiskardo, Assos and Myrtos Beach. Closer Poros, Katelios and Kamenia are also worth visiting.
Angela and her staff are a credit to the hotel, it is a great place to stay. Bar food of a high standard and continental breakfast good with a range of extras available at a small cost.
About 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of town but a nice walk along the seafront (although dark at night and a torch is recommended for the last 100 yards or so).
The hotel's restaurant by the sea front is excellent, the food and staff there are superb.
Also try the Kaliva taverna - great food and a wonderful atmosphere.
A week wasn't enough and we would return - something that we wouldn't normally consider as the world is a big place but this hotel is definitely worth another visit.

Set back from the road just 800m from Skala and across the road from Golden sandy beaches lies a delightful Hotel called the Aeolos Beach Hotel. A family run hotel that is run by Angela the owner who greets each coach in person.
When you first enter the Hotel, you are delighted by the décor, simple yet delightfully contemporary, not at all sparse, clearly a lot of attention has gone into the detail as the impression is more the homely feel. This all adds up to a wonderful welcome and a superb first impression.
The rooms are bright, comfortable and come with all of the equipment you would expect of a self catering apartment. The requested air conditioning worked well and chilled us through some of the hottest heat waves of the summer with temperatures reaching the mid forties. The bathrooms are spacious and are a lot more than the normal painted white walls with pine windows and doors, fully tiled and marble, again the attention to detail signature that we have already become accustomed. The well equipped kitchenette is small yet proportioned for the size of the apartment and for the potential usage that you would expect for you summer holiday, after all who wants to spend time cooking while on holiday?
All we wanted to muster was a wake up cup of coffee, which fuelled you as far as the dining room where if you wanted you could have a cooked breakfast, perhaps a full English or possibly just a slice of toast. I’ve left to last the most important aspect of the room, the bed! I slept so well in this bed, in a word it was perfect, extra pillows were also available for a total sleeping experience, there’s only one other place I sleep like that, and that’s at home. A superb job on the choice of bed.
The staff are the most friendly that you could wish to meet, they greet you always with a smile and are available at you beck and call, From Igor, Nicky Litza, Poppy and Angela. I have to say that vocal point of the pool is the Bar, although not a pub, it’s too family orientated for that, but again the family theme comes out as you could easily be sitting next to a ten year old child sipping Fanta as an adult with a beer. Having mentioned the bar it’s constantly used throughout the day as it location is next to the beautiful pool, it also is the meeting point where you get to know the rest of the guests.
The Aeolos, while not located in central Kefalonia it is ideally located for easy access to any other resort on the island. Whilst a car is always recommended on the island granting easy for access to Porros or to Katelios and even Fiscardo in the North, or if you’d prefer simply tour Skala, with it’s ancient Roman ruins and old town and modern shops. Two weeks is simply not enough time to take in or do everything on your list, hence we’ll have to go back several times to fully appreciate what the Aeolos and Kefalonia has to offer.

Submitted By: Mr M Ad Dog
The food never changed it was the same ever day, breakfast was sometimes left overs from the night before such as rice and pasta. Entertainment was changed once a week and most of the entertainers were un-enthusiastic.
The drinks were ok, not much choice, for more you must pay 6 euros per drink. The only air con is in your room, the restaurants were about 30 deg and not worth the money as the hotel is in the middle of no-where and you have to taxi everywhere.
The nearest place is 20 Euro each way and make sure your return flight is early as the hotel will kick you out and accommodate you to a minimum standard and courtesy.

This was our first stay at the Aeolos beach hotel. Set up a rather steep incline, you looked out on nothing but mountains and the beach and Greek mainland beyond.
The rooms were superb; we actually had a power shower and more than enough room for a very comfortable stay. The pool area was spotless, and the bar snacks were pretty good as well.
Around a 20 minute walk away from Scala town, but be sure to bring a torch if you come back late at night. As there is no pavement on the last 100yds walk back to the hotel.
The staff were nothing but fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble, and you felt at ease asking about the local area.
Breakfast was good for Greek standards, there was a selection of toast, cereals, yoghurt, tea coffee and juice. And for a small cost you could have a fully cooked English breakfast.
A fantastic peaceful, relaxing holiday. A perfect base if you want to laze o the beach or discover more of what Kefalonia has to offer.

The pool at the Aeolos Beach was superb. Its elevated location was excellent. Quiet, just out of the village but only metres from a huge sandy beach. The standard of accommodation was very high and well cared for and the staff welcoming and hard working.

The rooms are larger than other Greek accommodation we have stayed in. Skala itself is bustling at night with a good selection of tavernas and restaurants but all serving similar fare. I would recommend breakfast at the Pines - a truly relaxed start to the day. We hired a car to explore the island but we could have enjoyed simply staying around Skala.
The rooms are huge, with a power shower, comfortable beds, very clean and well maintained. The pool and it's surroundings are beautiful, with wonderful views and there are more than enough sunbeds and umbrellas even when the hotel is full. Breakfast is continental or a full English if you wish to pay extra - Kat is a great cook - her BLT's are to die for. The staff at the hotel are friendly helpful - Angela is a charming and helpful manager, she is helped by Lisa, who always has a cheery good morning/afternoon and a lovely smile. Evo (the handyman) was apparently an Olympic weight lifter, which is believable when you see him lift two 20kg suitcases and run up and down stairs with them as though they were two bags of sugar! Michael the barman is friendly and mixes great drinks, we asked for our favourite - Ouzo, topped up with sprite and a dash of Grenadine - he said Ouzo Specials will now but put on the cocktail menu - try one they're delicious!
The hotel is about a 20 minute walk into the centre of Skala but we enjoyed it - a nice way to work up an appetite and walk off your evening meal. The hill up to the hotel is a bit of a killer though - not for the infirm, though saying that I had a knee replacement 16 months ago and I managed it with no problem apart from getting out of breath! We suggested they install an oxygen station half way up the hill. If you don't mind a walk it's the ideal location, if you turn left at the bottom of the hill instead of right into Skala centre, there are some great restaurants that way too - that would be a long walk if you staying in the centre. A taxi from the centre to the hotel costs about 5 euros.
All the restaurants are good and you get 10% discount if you dine at the Hotel's Restaurant (The Aeolos). The Chinese (Chop Sticks) and the Italian restaurant are good and a nice change from Greek food. We found Captains Bar is the liveliest place in town and the staff are great. Can't vouch for the Zebra (the disco) as we didn't try it. All prices are much the same wherever you go and on a par with England, no cheap holidays any more unfortunately!
The bus tour is a great way to see the island if you don't hire a car.
The beach is sand and pebbles, mostly pebbles, but clean if you want a beach rather than a pool.
Hubby and I had a fantastic, relaxing holiday and can totally recommend it.
