Samsara Cliff Resort Hotel

Let me start by saying that my wife and I fully realize "you get what you pay for." We fully understand that Samsara is one of the least expensive places to stay in Negril, Jamaica, and we were not expecting anything more than a clean room and friendly staff. I stayed at the lovely samara resort from November 29th for three days and it was so relaxing. I stayed in a garden view room across the street, there was a front porch with a hammock, which I made use of everyday. There were flowers and fruit trees everywhere. The food was also excellent and varied everyday. The views from the cliffs are amazing, beautiful sunset every evening. The bar staff was very helpful and always had a smile on their faces. Our trip was from Oct 19-Oct 25 '04. We are avid travelers, and cleanliness, comfort and service are key for our vacations. I too mirror others in saying that Samsara is rated a 2+ star hotel, and they make no false claims to what they offer with the location or the amenities considering how they rate themselves. I have been enjoying the Samsara and the wonderful people who work there now, for the past 9 years. I will be going back again this year to make it an even 10 years. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, go to the Ritz!!!! I am a 9-1-1 Dispatcher and need the relaxation, and the Samsara is the place to be, to get JUST THAT!! We stayed here June 2003 for 5 nights. I chose this place because of the good price package I got from Expedia. I would stay this is a 2-star hotel. The reception area had exposed beams and bricks and motar laying around (even after the remodeling I don't think the place will look any better) and everything look so old and crappy. Just got back from Samsara today, spent eight days with a good friend. I admit I read the reviews prior to arrival so I expected the worst. As mentioned by others, it's not a five star resort, it's pretty basic, a simple room, equipped with a large powerful fan, or a/c. 2 beds, basic bathroom. Where do you begin? Read the negative reviews here and believe them!!! Bad/cold/non-existent food. Thin mattresses on concrete blocks. Website pages misrepresenting the facilities (Must have been taken years ago) Surly, grumpy, staff who view guests as impositions. I read the reviews on here and was half tempted not to go, having paid out the money we went and how glad am I. It was the best holiday I have ever had. The hotel is fine, it has clean double rooms, showers, Cable TV, everything that you need really, the people who have said this place is a dump are obviously very rich and can afford 5 star hotels. If you're the adventurous sort and do not want to spend lots of money on a vacation, the Hotel Samsara is for you. Sure, you are not guaranteed a phone or tv in your room, as my friend and I didn't have one, but since we were on vacation and eager to absorb as much culture and natural views as possible, this didn't pose as a serious problem. we had the chance to sample delicious Jamaican food and listen to lots of Jamaican music and witnessed the wonderful and clean ocean in the Caribbean. I don't understand any of the horrible reviews I read about Samsara. I had a great time there. It is not a luxury resort. It is basic but nice. Who goes on vacation to sit in their hotel room all day anyway??? The room was nice sized, very clean and despite the reviews, my room faced the ocean, had 2 normal full size beds, a working fan and air conditioning.
