Read all the reviews before we went and thought it must just be that some people are overly fussy but unfortunately they were right. It would have been Ok if we were self catering as the room was fine. But we were all inclusive and the food was very very poor. some of it... more

I arrived back from here yeterday and went with some trepidation due to reading too many reviews. Staff were friendly, never saw any evidence of re-using plastic cups etc., All in all a budget holiday and I got what I paid for. I enjoy walking so the hills I saw as a challenge but if you don't like walking this isn't the place for you.

Have to say, all the reviews that are bad, I think that those particular people were expecting too much. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, and Nido is a cheap place to go. We were all inclusive, the food isn't the best, but it fills a hole, as we are a young... more

Shabby and Dirty!!!
Just returned from a two week stay at the Nido Del Aguila apartments in Gran Canaria. On arriving at the Nido we were given the key to our room but told to wait in the reception area as the room hadn't been cleaned yet. When we were given the green light to go to the room we were faced with a mountainous staircase to climb with two heavy suitcases and no offer of help from the staff. We finally got to the room which had apparently just been cleaned - WHAT A JOKE!!!! The room was like a filthy bed sit, with muck on the floor, stains on the walls, mucky sheets on the beds, hairs in the sink and bath, dirty mouldy food bits in the fridge and a toaster full of stale crumbs and a kettle full of dirty stale water. The furniture was dated, shabby and stained. We were led to believe that the maid would clean once a day and that the towels and bed linen would be changed at least once during our stay - this was not the case. We do not believe our bed linen or towels were changed at all during the 2 weeks, and the maid must had visited our apartment at the very most 4 times during our stay to mop, no sorry, to slosh some dirty cold water on the floor and empty the bins which even that failed to happen most of the time. If you are lucky enough to have your apartment cleaned whist staying at the Nido then beware as the very few times someone did come along to clean they would bang on the door, often just barging in at 9.30am while you are still in bed or taking a shower. As for self catering then unless you want to eat beans on toast for the duration of your stay then forget it. There is as said earlier a Kettle, Toaster and a Ring (No Oven). Putting the shabby apartments aside then the Pool is o.k. if not a little small and very hard to get a sun lounger, unless of course you get your towel down for 6.30 am (No Lie). The Bar / Restaurant is fine to be honest and the staff are very friendly and lively. Another point to be aware of is that although there is a mixture of ages in the hotel (to say the least) watch out for the groups of 18/30 like lads and lasses who like to drink hard and party until 5.00 am in the morning around the complex (we were woken on more than one occasion by all the noise they caused). If you like a bit of kip on your jols, forget it or buy some good ear defenders. To sum up, I would avoid the Nido if you want a chilled out holiday in clean accommodation. However if you don’t give a toss about cleanliness, noise or comfort then the Nido is the place for you.
take your own bed
booked this apt for three people but it was not big enough for three the third bed was a sofa which turned out to be the best place to sleep the other beds which was two singles pushed together was so uncomfortable & noisy along with the heat in the apt sleep was impossible the apt was very basic it says linen is changed once a week but thats debatable on the whole the facilities this place has is to small for the amount of apartments it has
Self Catering - yeah whatever!!
Arriving at the Nido with me, partner and little boy of 2 years old. Got dumped outside in the early hours of the morning (4am!), pushchair and three heavy suitcases, no tour rep to help us in reception. Reception was manned by Security Guards as the reception staff had obviously gone home for the night. Got given a key, and was pointed towards the stairs. Ok, so tired little man, again 3 heavy suitcases and a steep flight of stairs. No help offered to carry the suitcases!! Eventually got to our room. We had requested a balcony, sea view room, but got downstairs room, with pool view (no sea view). Disgusted to find the back door did not lock - only way we could secure this was by pushing one of the chairs up against the door. Apparently these apartments sleep 3 people - yeah if one of you wants to sleep on a sofa. Note - sofa NOT sofa bed!! Little boy had to sleep in stained travel cot in the same room as us - which had two single beds with "sweaty" bed linen. Don't they know about fabric conditioner?? Self catering facilities within the apartment? Two hot rings, a fridge and a sink - not bad if all you eat is baked beans and bread!! We had no kettle and had to wait 3 days to get one from reception! The receptionist just went and took one out of another apartment! Only saw one cockroach for the time we were there (where supposed to stay for two weeks but got so bored and hot we left after one week!!). Pool was clean, but be careful because the floor can get very hot (burnt my feet twice!). Bar staff very friendly and always have a nice "hello jimmy" to everyone! This resort is only suitable for families with 1 child over the age of 6. THIS IS NOT SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN!
Ay Ay Jimmy!
This was the first time id ever been to gran canaria, didnt really know what to expect but fancied something new. When we got to nido, i found the reception staff to be a little rude as they refused to help me carry my case up a big flight of steps as there is no lift (im only little and i dont travel light!).The maids only visited us the first day and i think we must have offended them because thats the last we saw of them, which we didnt really understand as we didnt leave any mess, apart from that the only other thing i could complain about is the really uncomfortable beds and itchy bed linen! The food was excellent and the bar staff so funny and friendly! (especially jimmy!!) The pool, although quite small was always clean and there was always sunloungers free! The rooms were pretty basic but comfortable. As for the actual resort itself, it wasnt really what we were looking for as it is quite tacky at night, the only nightlife really is two shopping centres that convert onto a few sticky bars at night, we did visit playa del ingles one night though which we LOVED but it was about 25 euros in a taxi! Overall it was good for weather as it was very hot and sunny ( Id almost forgotten what a cloud looked like by the time i got home!) but it would probably be more suited to families or older couples, but only able bodied as it is situated on top of the biggest hill around!
OK
Sometimes Holidays are about the people you meet and not the places you stay. We had a great 2 weeks at the Nido. It was basic but clean. The staff where very polite and helpfull. We found the our area to be better suited for us (smaller pool and not a lot of idiots). We would recommend La Bolera (past McDees at CC) and Oscars (harbour) for top quality food and service. The Europa was ok , basic pub and grub (mermaids do a great sunday lunch for 7 euros) The commercial centre was a nightmare and those restaurant touts are a bunch of muppets. One guy made me laugh he called me a miserbale german for not going into his gaff and said "come eat our (---) mate , its all (---) down here" Harleys was good down there Make sure you do the walk from Amadores to Porto Rico beach...right along the coast. Its a bit tuff with a pram right enugh but well worth it. Friday market at Mogan was just like the Barra's. But warmer and smellier. Not the worse place.
cheap alternative
me and my partner ended up staying at the nido apartments even though we were suppost to be based at Lara which is right next to the establishment. the bar staff we really friendly and the food they served was good quality and value for money. the hotel only cost £105 pp for two weeks and this showed in the standards of the rooms with a pay tv and the most uncomfortable beds going. the walls were really thin and you could her everything around including the people rolling out of the local europa centre till 4 in the morning. the cleaners were really good although the sheets were only changed once during the stay and only saw a few cockroaches outside the apartment. in all good value but am very tired and glad to have my own bed back
hated the place
it was our first and last time in grand canaria and we would not recomment it if you are looking for a holiday filled with culture and nice winding cobbled streets. We were disgusted to find a NEON europa centre, packed mostly with British bars, and a man made beach with no character. We had no complaints about the apartments, though the location could have been better.
We Love Jimmy!!!!
3 friends and I went to this hotel, we had 2 rooms which they put right next door to eachother so we were all nice and close. We had a FANTASTIC time. the rooms were cleaned on a daily basis, and apart from th odd cockroach (which was expected) you couldn't fault it. The bar staff were so much fun, and you couldn't forget their names, as they all answered to 'JIMMY'. Despite the fact that you are on the top of a big hill, there was still loads of restaurants, bars and nightlife only a few minutes walk away, and very cheap. The weather was fantastic, each day was between 28-36 deg, and the temperature dropped at night so you were able to sleep comfortably. The pools seemed clean, we saw men chech the PH level almost everyday, and it didn't matter to us that the water was cold, infact it was a welcomed cooling area. The only 2 minor bad points were that the food and drinks had a slight disenfectant taste to them, and the second is more a word of warning, DON'T BUY ANY ELECTRICAL GOODS FROM ANY SHOP!!! I would recommend this area and hotel to all my friends and family, and 100% def go back.
Fantastic holiday!
We have just come back from a weeks holiday to Puerto Rico. We stayed in the Nido del Aguila apartments which were excellent. They were always kept spotless by the maid that came every day and the views around the apartments were also fantastic! I also recommend the food in the restaurant at these apartments - lovely food, lots of it and very good value for money. As we are only 19 we went to Puerto Rico centre of a nightime, which only cost us 3 euros in a taxi everynight and only took 5 minutes from the apartments. At the centre there are loads of shops, restuarants, bars and clubs. I recommend the Bora Bora Bar- where you get a free shot and cocktail as you walk in! Other bars that were also good were snoopys bar, Jack Daniels Bar and Covent Garden Bar. On our holiday we also went to the beach quite a few times, never went to Puerto Rico beach as Amadores beach is 100 times nicer. Its only a 20 minute walk down the hill or a 3 or 4 minute ride in a taxi. Recommend getting a taxi back up though and we walked back up it once - never again got a taxi the rest of the time! The beach is beautiful there with clear blue seas and white sand. Overall we had an excellent holiday and the weather was baking hot everyday. Would definetley recommend these apartments and would love to go back to Puerto Rico some time soon! x
NIDO DE AGUILA LOVELY COMFORTABLE STAY :-)
Hiya Me and my Boyfriend have just returned from a week in Puerto Rico and we stayed at the Nido De Aguila. The appartment was lovely and clean when we arrived,it was light and airy and a very nice place to relax. The beds were singles but we changed the matresses horizontally to make a double and the cleaning staff respected that when making the beds. Beds were made everyday and fresh towels were provided. The apartments are situated on the highest point of the mountain its a great walk down to th beach however a taxi back up is advisable as its a tremendous walk back up! taxis are approx 3 euros. The swimming pool area was kept clean and tidy and sun loungers were always available. The staff at receptionwere very friendly and helpful and the waiters in the restaurant were very funny and entertaining. Good food and value for money. Not far from the Nido there is the Europa centre, which is abit tacky, it has lots of english bars, supermarkets and places to eat. There is also a great jewelers called the London Diamond Centre, (great guy to haggle with) ;-). In the Europa centre there is a restaurant were they cook your food on a log fire think it was called the Gazar, when we were having a meal, 2 cockroaches decided to come join us at the table. I was physically made to be sick, the waiter apologised and moved us to anothe table but my appetite had gone. Also I was served steak, gravy and a salad all on the one plate. Gordon Ramsey would be proud. Food was awful there do not recommend. To the bottom of the mountain is Mcdonalds, great when you get fed up of 'english breakfast bars'. There is a great all you can eat chinese restarant for 5 euros including pudding. I also advise a beach restaurant called 'el pirata' situated at Puerto Base you get a half roast chicken canarian potatos with mojo sauce and salad for 4 euros. Great tasty value for money. The beaches are great, they get very busy you have to pay 2 euros fifty for a sun lounger but its a great days relaxation. Also you must visit Mogan little venice a tiny fishing village with canals running through it. Its a must see during your stay. Full of yatchs picturesque scenes and great shops. There is a market on Fridays and the beach is very clean and water inviting. Also there is a great restaurant in Mogan called Que Tal, it is run by a Norweiegan guy who takes excellent pride in his cooking, we got chatting to him during our stay, he uses the finest ingrediants he can get his hands on and his staff excel in customer service. By far it is the most excellent, quality food and drink available on the island. We returned several times and the food was suberb. Greek kebab is recommended! Maspolomas is a great days shopping, there are shops such as Macys, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Mango however taxis from Puerto Rico are expensive as its a good 20 mns drive. We got quotes between 20 - 25 euros however we discovered there is a bus you can get at the bottom of the mountain by McDonalds the no 39 it costs 1 euro fifty takes 20 mins and drops you off outside the shopping precient! Overall it was a great holiday it was my second time there and my Boyfriends first time, we really enjoyed it and would centainly return. The appatments are recommeded, great value for money and Thompson our reps were really kind and helpful throughout our stay! Hope our review helps Jennifer and Danny xx trip 17th April- 24th April 2006
