Hotel itself was very nice - room was OK but the service was dreadful.
We asked for a double bed and got 2 singles pushed together. Ordering breakfast was a nightmare and the room service people put the phone down on me. Complained to reception who didn't care.
On the plus side the central location is very good as you are close to all the attractions in amsterdam.
Would not stay there again.

Stayed here for our honeymoon. The hotel is in a great position right on dam square easy access to all areas of Amsterdam just be careful of the trams they are everywhere.
The room was huge with a super king-size bed plus tables and chairs and a mini bar. Our room looked out over dam square. The hotel is very clean and but not that friendly put that down to being a 5 star and a bit posh.
We only ate in the restaurant once as there is many places to eat in Amsterdam. But the food we had lamb stew set in the middle of a big round piece of cob was gorgeous, the cakes well if you can afford to eat them you would put on a stone they looked absolutely to die for.
Drinks in the hotel very expensive and the mini bar for a mini can of coke 4 Euros.
While we were there the president or whatever you call them over there, stayed at the hotel.
The hotel was cornered off and they had guard dogs the size of horses in the hotel bit scary it would have been nice to be warned when we had booked in, but then it’s a story to tell the grandkids when they get older.
Amsterdam is beautiful the canals, the people, the culture I loved it all. I would go back tomorrow but I would stay in a smaller family run hotel.
If you want a special treat then yes the hotel would be nice but for sightseeing there are loads of cheaper hotels to choose from.

We stayed room only. This hotel is situated in the heart of Dam Square.
The hotel it self is very clean, rooms cleaned every day, staff friendly.
Tried the food - first class. Would highly recommend this hotel for couples, families and disabled people.
Within walking distance from the train station, Anne Franks house, Madame Tussaudes, boat trips, red light districts, and shops.
Over all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam.

We had a terrible stay over New Year.
We went with friends and neither of our rooms had any heat for the 4 days we were staying, despite speaking to various staff and duty managers nothing was done.
No apology just empty promises!!
The hotel food was ok, but felt rushed in the restaurants, once we had finished eating they were hovering around to get us to leave.
The only good thing about this hotel was the location, ideal for seeing the sights.
Could not wait to get home!!

I visited Amsterdam on the 2nd of January this year. I was slightly concerned after reading reviews on other sites that the hotel wasn't quite as good as it was meant to be with its five star rating.
I am pleased to say that I had an amazing stay at this hotel and would go again at any point. On arrival there were porters available to help with our luggage as we walked up from Central Station. Check in was smooth and I was very surprised to be upgraded to an executive room in the Royal Wing which was very nice indeed, as it was my birthday I was also given a large selection of chocolates from the shop and was made to feel very, very welcome on arrival.
We stayed on a room only basis although I would advise to have a look at the Winter Gardens. We also ate at the hotels restaurant, Reflect. It was reasonably priced at 35 euros for a 3 course meal and the food was nice. I'd recommend going for a steak at one of the steakhouses and visiting the Euro Pub, you could be put off but its lively and the barman are really nice.
I went for my birthday and id honestly say go to this hotel it has a perfect location and is clean modern and you can get a good price for a room.

Stayed here 22-27 December 2008. I booked this hotel for a special anniversary and was expecting a bit of luxury. How could I get it so wrong. On arrival we were shown a twin room which was dirty and shoddy (ripped wall paper),I had booked a Kingsize double. This was sorted out,and given a double room. Later while sitting in bar noticed mice running to and fro. I brought this to the attention of bar staff who I quote said,"yes its a bit of a problem not what you,d expect from a five star hotel". Not the answer I was expecting either. I informed the receptionist who gave same answer. On returning to our room at 1am. only to find mice running about the room. Went to reception to get night manager, and he told us it was an old building and was a problem, yes but not my problem and he gave us another room an executive room. This room had no working bedside lights but to tired to care, just glad not to see mice running about. Now on third room within 12 hours not a good start. In morning I informed housekeeping ref. lights not working and then went to breakfast which was in the winter garden lovely setting I asked for a hot plate to put my luke warm food on and was met with the response this was not possible. Maybe this is a strange Dutch custom who knows. On returning to our room in afternoon we found our key card did not work, what more could go wrong. The manager was eventually summoned to tell us the card was not working because we had kept the keycard next to a credit card obviously this is another strange Dutch phenonimum. Eventually after much argument a joiner was summoned to remove lock, we were sent to bar for a free drink. On returning to our room lock fixed to find maid had been in but we had no toilet paper and the lights still didn,t work. This was eventually sorted. You might be saying whats the problem upgraded room two free drinks. Well the problem is one spends a lot of money to get a bit luxury in a five star hotel, not to spend most of my time tripping back and forth to reception to try and get the basics. Dedfinately not a five star hotel and the attitude of staff in dining room is unpleasant to down right rudeness. Jim Alexander.
