WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE ROOM, FOOD, ENTERTAINMENT OR THE STAFF
THIS TIME WE WERE ASKED TO ATTEND A TREE PLANTING SERVICE, THERE STAFF GAVE US OUR VERY OWN PALM TREE AND PUT OUR NAME WITH IT, WE FELT VERY VERY SPECIAL, WE ARE NOW BOOKING UP TO GO BACK AGAIN AT THE END OF APRIL 08, CAN NOT WAIT.
I CAN HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANY ONE WHO WANT TO GO ON A NICE RELAXING HOLIDAY,
ONCE PAID THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO SPEND MONEY ON ONLY GIFTS AND TIPS.
THE STAFF ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD AND WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO HELP YOU, THEY ARE ALSO VERY VERY FRIENDLY.

Submitted By: Mr Chris & ClaireThe Hotel was beautifully kept, spacious, great pools. Lots of organised sports like volleyball and water polo. So for us, each day was a mix of sunbathing and healthy exercise and fun. My wife thought the dinners weren't that good particularly if you aren't a fan of meat. The evening entertainment was varied in quality and organisation. The fire guy who walked on glass was good but a couple of shows were not. We stayed at the Brayka Bay a year ago and the dinners there were better as was the sand!
In summary, excellent value for money with attentive staff. Ideal for those wanting to relax. Not for those wanting a lively nightlife or to have things to do or see off "camp" as there is nothing but desert!

Submitted By: chapel1The Lamaya is one of four hotel owned and managed by TUI group which are positioned side by side around a natural horseshoe shaped bay which has a reef occupying about one third of the bay. A jetty stretches over part of the reef and is used for divers and snorkelers as well as for watching the fascinating marine life.
Five star status has been given to the Lamaya, the other three hotels are 3 and 4 star. There appears to be little difference to each hotels appearance, all are attractive with beautiful well kept gardens. The pool areas and beach are in our opinion spoiled by the cheap looking bright blue coloured nylon sunbeds, no cushions are offered but towels are provided.
Transferring from the airport is quick, a mere 10 minutes, but there is no need to worry about aircraft noise.
These faults and our concerns were reported to the hotel reception during the early evening of arrival and again at eight o'clock the next morning but nothing was repaired until later in the morning and then only after demanding to be moved. Regretably the Thomson Premier representative was not helpful, suggesting us to see her again on her next visit the following day if we were unable to sort the problems ourselves.
I wrote a note to the hotel Manager who subsequently a sent a bottle of wine and a basket of fruit to the room the following day, this was a nice jesture but remember we were all inclusive.
We could clearly see faults/damage to the outside of other rooms , next door had a smashed patio door.
The public rooms were very well furnished as were the two restaurants
The main (buffet) Diwan restaurant was of a good standard, ample choice, you won't go hungery, the waiters are excellent. There is also a small but lovely beach restaurant (Morgana) which serves late contenental style breakfast, a limited snach lunch menu and which is an al a carte option during the evening serving fixed menu fish dishes at an expensive 40 euro per person.
The bars serve a full range of alcholic and soft drinks, limited cocktails, coffee/tea and have water dispencers. The locally produced drinks are of fairly poor quality but are served very pleasantly and generously (capachinno coffe is excellent). There was only one half litre bottle of water provided per room which requires topping-up at any of the bars.
Entertainment is provided by a very pleasant keyboard player in the lobby bar most evenings, some guests dance and an occasional inpromtu singing performance is given by a guest. The hotel animation team organise a limited program during the day they entertain in the theatre most evenings they were not to our taste the theatre was always empty before the end of the show.
OVERAll
Go and enjoy the superb weather, hospitality, marine life and total relaxation, that won't break the bank, but don't expect a five star top of the range hotel.
The room which was allocated was on the ground floor of three stories, adjacent to the pool. Furnishings were of good quality with ample space. However there were serious fault in respect of the room which frankly were not acceptable in a five star. Thomson Platinum hotel. The patio door lock was broken, there was no hot water and the safe was broken.

Submitted By: Miss C MaddisonOnly one main pool was heated over the Xmas break but this was enough for the hotel which seemed half empty during our week 19-26 December. Food was good and varied. One buffet restaurant with various themed nights. I'm vegetarian and managed to find something nice most nights - lovely fresh veg and salads always available (not always clear what it is and isn’t suitable for vegetarians though). They made a real effort for Xmas Eve Gala meal which was excellent.
In short, this hotel was great for us (as a 20 something couple). I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice quiet break in a lovely location. Entertainment (at least for adults) was pretty poor, with the same 4-5 entertainment staff responsible for not only day time entertainment but asked to do all shows of evening also. Would have benefited from having some external entertainment bough in.
But if you are happy do spend your day relaxing, entertaining yourself with table-tennis, snorkeling, diving courses etc, this is a good destination. The snorkeling right on the beach is great (take your own snorkel, expensive out there). The Diving trip through Emperor Diving just down the coast (booked via the Thomson Rep £60) which was brilliant, with English instructor. Only did the Intro Dive but now wish we had done the full scuba course (which for 2 day PADI was £160 ish) and definitely would do that it we returned in future. Temps were low 70's over Xmas. Enough to come back with a bit of a tan and swim off the beach. Didn't dare venture into the non-heated pool though! Suspect this resort may be more lively over summer months.

Submitted By: Miss E M SmithHotel was on the beach - wonderful calm bay for sea bathing - the food in the hotel was out of this world and the Xmas gala dinner was like something out of a fairy story book - they went to SO much trouble.
Only two tiny complaints - lighting very poor in bedrooms, so if you want a quiet read at night, take a torch! And all rooms have walk in shower only, and if you are a "bath" person - you need to know this in advance.
Absolutely fabulous in every way - don't take beach towels - they are provided. Everything is free from sun-beds to the sports facilities, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi etc. - it puts Spain to shame where they charge for every bed and every umbrella. Nothing is too much trouble for the Egyptian staff.
Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Submitted By: Mrs R FiveashThe hotel is beautiful and extremely clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is right on the beach, though you have to either use the jetty or walk for 5 mins to the end of the beach to be able to enter the sea, as access has been restricted due to protecting the coral.
The food is OK, the only option for eating is at the buffet. As with most buffets there are days when the options are not to your taste, however there was always salad / pasta / soup etc that could be had.
A down side to the All Inclusive option is that bottles of drink were extra. So if you wanted water, or a bottle of coke in your room you have to pay for it. Most people however buy 1 bottle then use the self service sections at the bar to re-fill them.
The resort is wonderful, there is nothing there but the odd hotel and desert. If you are after a hot version of Britain then don't go here, if you are after a touch of culture that is not yet ruined by tourism then Marsa Alam is the place for you.

Submitted By: Miss L SingletonThe hotel is superb, food is excellent, and whilst everyone says you get a dodgy tummy in Egypt we were fine.
If anything it’s down to people pigging out too much and getting too much sun. My boyfriend proposed to me at the Lamaya and I can honestly say it was one of our best holidays ever! If you've booked a holiday there you won't be disappointed.
P.S the quad bikes are amazing and so is the horse riding!

Submitted By: Mrs M MajidStaff extremely helpful - especially to the ladies but it’s not over the top, and it’s nothing you can't handle. They're not rude or pushy, just a bit extra smiley for the girls!
The food was very good and with lots of choice - Egyptian and Seafood nights in the restaurant were spot on.
Hotel is spotlessly clean. If there weren’t so many other places to go to on holiday we'd definitely go back.

Submitted By: blackpool belleAnimation staff especially Omar and Zeco brill. Pool brilliant and very warm, hotel very clean. Food good.
My daughter had her birthday while we were there and they make you feel special.
Beer fine, vodka is more like petrol. Evening entertainment a lot better than had expected but don’t expect Blackpool or Sharm. More Lamaya version ha ha.
Trips excellent. We did 2 day Luxor for the historical bit and had an excellent guide, couldn't fault her in any way.
We went on camels and there is nothing like riding a camel in the dark with the locals singing along.
Went snorkelling in another bay and saw turtles and loads of fish by the coral, excellent little trip.
Downside beach by hotel not the best, you have to go off a jetty to snorkel and when we went loads jellyfish. And outside hotel have to tip for everything.
Excellent value for money.

Submitted By: Mrs SJ HoppeMyself and my husband have visited Egypt several times and can honestly say this is the best hotel we have experienced.
We both worked in the hotel and customer service industry for many years and were equally impressed with the level of service received and the standard of the hotel.
We decided to attend the 'Welcome' the following morning and were surprised when the Management Team arrived to introduce themselves to us all.
During our stay the staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, there was a great choice of food each day in the restaurant (they had themed evening dinners), our room was cleaned daily to a high standard and the main hotel and pools were spotless.
Our room was lovely with a very large bed a big walk-in shower.
There are trips that you can book. The snorkeling is good with lots to see. The animation team kept their poolside 'tunes' to a non-intrusive level which was great.
It proved to be a very relaxing holiday and we will definitely go back.
Our only reservation was the Gym - it only had one bike and one treadmill and was more popular than any Gym we have used on our holidays - this was rather frustrating for 2 people that workout everyday, however we also swim regularly and the non-heated pool was perfect for 'lengths'.
All in all a great place to stay and we will definitely go back.

first the negatives then end on a high note with the positives...
breakfast time could be dull unless you love boiled eggs, german ham and lots of cheese. saying that we always found something to fill us up.
unfortunately for us the weather for half the week was cool and windy but it made up for it the rest of the week by being scorchio (but still windy and cool at night) and we still came back with golden tans.
could be difficult finding your way around as there were plenty of signs telling you which plant was which but not where the sauna was.
we are not against other nationalities but english accents were a rarity and certain nationalities were unbelievably rude and did not know what a queue was for.
sorry guys but the entertainment was awful!
the 5 1/2 hr plane journey was cramped and im only 5 ft 3 and a size 10! felt sorry for my 6ft broad boyfriend...(at least we got our in flight meals thrown in but you wouldnt pay £12 for them for sure)
now for the good bits...
lovely spacious, clean rooms over just 2 stories so never much legwork required. in fact it was clean everywhere and again the staff were the friendliest people ever. never saw a miserable face amongst the staff but be warned they are pranksters!!!
the rep was very knowledgable and doesnt shove trips down your neck. very honest about those that might suit you and those that definitely wouldn't.
the rest of the meals were varied, hot, tasty (although v salty) with massive selection of desserts. the fruit, veg and salad is all washed in mineral water and the ice is made from mineral water too so no upset tums for us or anyone that we heard of for that matter. the red wine is nice and the lager is good. they do ok cocktails and the spirits etc are local but fine. there is water (safe to drink) available in fountain type containers so no need to buy pricey bottles.
pool areas were also spacious and clean with plenty of sunbeds, in shade or sun. we went in may and didnt see any insects to bite you, just a few cute birds hopping around. there were some awful but also some really good tunes played around the pool area and not too loud so not invasive.
its based right on the beach with beautiful scenery. snorkelling or diving is a must, its amazing so get over any fear you may have like mine and get in that water!!
overall, nice relaxing break and spectacular if you love sealife.
Advice: get there if you wanna see octopi, fish, rays, turtles, etc, etc
Activities: snorkelling!!
Good for: Beach
