Nostos Hotel

A fantastic hotel in a fantastic location.The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the town of Kalithea and around 30 minutes to Afitos. There is a little train that stops outside the Nostos which will take you to Afitos ( fare 1 Euro ) and will then take you down to Afitos beach from the town center ( fare 1 Euro ) check notice board At the end of the Nostos driveway for timetable. The beaches at both Kalithea and Afitos are not suitable for people with mobility pproblems as they are both down steep roads ( the train helps at Afitos)The rock and pebble beach below the Nostos is also down a steep winding path.Kalithea is a town with very little going for it in my opinion if you are a town person 1 week would be more than enough .Afitos is a lot more laid back and very quite but very pretty and well worth a weeks stay. It was the Nostos hotel that made our stay with good food ( the chicken and potatos superb )and very friendly staff with very well kept grounds the rooms are bright and clean. The waters below the hotel are crystal clear and the warmest i have ever swam in.

we have just stayed at the nostos again for the 3rd year running, fantastic holiday, fantastic people own/run it. You really would have to go a very long way to find a hotel that offers you the kind of hospitality the nostos gives, we have been coming back here now for 3 years and we have formed a great relationshionship with all of the family, they meet and greet us with open arms, anything we ask for they try to oblige, for instance i like lamb chops for my evening meal, i sent an email a few days before we were due to arrive, when we got there what was on the menu ? lamb chops, we even get invited to join them at their lunch table, how special is that !!! me and my husband have been all over the med, and have never been made to feel welcome like this family make you feel welcome, we would recommend it all day long. We have been to the Nostos Hotel for 5 years and we look foreward to every holiday spent at the Nostos Hotel with the friendly owners who we class as our friends. Helen and Makis, the owners, are a lovely couple and cannot do enough for you. The staff are so friendly and helpful and they make you feel like you have had real holiday and nothing is to much trouble to them. The rooms are spotless and cleaned everyday by friendly and efficient chalet maids. The olympic size pool is fantasic, it is very clean and makes swimming a pleasure. The location is really special, and eating breakfast overlooking the Aegean Sea is not to be missed. We have booked again for 2007 and are counting the weeks. Highly recommended.

I would like to start by saying how friendly the staff were. The location of the hotel is good with a 10min walk to kalithea and 25min walk to athios. We spent two weeks at the nostos and really enjoyed the first week. However the second week was ruined for me by something that is simple to fix. The pool had a growing layer of green muck on the tiles above the water level in certain areas of the pool. By the end of the week at least a dozen people were stuffering with ear infections mainly but also problems with the nose and throat. I have suffered with limited hearing in both ears for a week now. Have been taking anti-biotics and drops. I also have a permantely whistling noise in one ear which i'm told is tinitis and may not go away due to the cronic ear infection which i am suffering from. This pain kept me awake at night and i was taking nurofen every two hours to reduce the pain. I would also like to state once again that i was not the only person effected and hope some of the dozen or so other people that have suffered will add to this. Please if you go, make you where some from of ear plugs, or just stay out of the pool all together. This has ruined my holiday and i'm still suffering as a result. I am normally a healthy 32 year old person, and really don't like complaining about things. I just hope this does not spoil your family holiday as it did mine. If you are about to go, ask them have they cleaned or treated the pool with chemicals recently!! And look out for the layer of green muck as the kids pool waterfalls into the large pool.

We have just come home after 2 weeks at the Nostos hotel Halkidiki. The hotel was spotless, the staff well presented and very friendly. The views from the terraces can only be described as a picture postcard, I can't believe that every day we drank and ate over looking the stunning views, I feel privliged. The food at the hotel was fanatstic and excellent value for money. The breakfast was buffet style, and although I have read reviews of it being bland, you are given the option of having a full english, beans on toast etc., for a minimal charge. In fact we both must say that the food served at the hotel was even better than the restaurants!!! Home made food , hubby is already having withdrawal symptoms.........now how do you make those meatballs again?? Also make sure you book for the Sunday barbicue its great!!! Frappe's well now I am addicted too. This family run hotel is one of the most friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in. We will return next year. I can see why so many people return here year after year. It is so relaxing, I feel totally chilled out. 10 minutes walk you can get to Kalithea, which is a bustling small town, however we prefered Athitos(30 mins walk), which a is traditional greek village with many restaurants and tavernas. A taxi ride back rom Athitos was between 3 - 5 euros. The location is ideal, right in the middle of both a town and greek village. The steep steps from the terraces to the beach are a challenge lol, but if you take the 10 min walk into Katitheia there is a slope to walk down, so therefore more ideal for those with children or limited ability. Also if the hotel were not situatated where it was you just wouldn't get those views!!! The pool side bar is great for those last minute before bed night caps, catching up on the days events, this was a time I really looked forward too. I must also say that whilst there I felt safe and all my possesions safe. This all helped us to relax and unwind. Nothing was too much trouble either, the staff and family are so approachable. Have just returned from a fantastic week at the Nostos. It's family run and both they and the staff are very friendly. Always spotlessly clean. Although the breakfast choice is a bit limited, it's great to eat it on the terrace overlooking the sea - the views are wonderful. Our room was spotless and had a fridge which was useful, and the bathroom was fine (shower, no bath). The pool is a reasonable size with enough sunbeds for all (we went at the end of May, so don't know how busy it gets at peak times). If you're feeling fit and agile, it's possible to walk down the zig zag steps from the terrace through the pine trees to the sea - you can then walk for 10 minutes or so over the rocks and sand to the beach where there are restaurants, sunbeds etc. The Nostos is at the edge of Kalithea - a 10 minute walk along the road brings you to the restaurants, shops, tavernas etc. It is quite touristy though, but if you walk in the opposite direction from the hotel you get to Athitos, which is a far more traditional Greek village. We arranged car hire for the week before we went (much cheaper than arranging over there) and managed to cover most of the organised excursions independently. The scenary is quite spectacular - particularly the mountains and coast of the middle penninsula, Sithonia. The Athos Penninsula is also worth the drive and of course there are the other villages and towns to explore on the Kassandra penninsula further down from Kalithea. If you want a peaceful relaxing holiday, then we would definitely recommend the Nostos.

I hope that everyone who has stayed here also goes to see other Islands in Greece. This is our 15th visit to Greece and I was expecting more from this hotel and the location considering the reviews. The staff are very good, this can not be faulted. The rooms are basic, the pool small and always crowded, the breakfast boring but the food is generally of a good standard at lunch and dinner, albeit a very limited menu. The location is more for the 'Brits that want Britain abroad' with food and shopping as you would expect!

The hotel was nice and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. This was our first holiday with our 8 month old baby and we found the hotel very accommodating. Will probably return in the future.

excellent setting for our honeymoon Just arrived back off honeymoon from the Nostos Hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the staff were excellent, decent food and idylic location looking over the sea view from the terrace area.The rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff couldn't do enough for you DEFINITELY WILL BE PAYING THE NOSTOS ANOTHER VISIT

I have just been looking at the photos on the nostos page, what wonderful memories they reminded me of. If anybody wants to go to a quiet hotel, and relax for a week... or two...or three! try this one. The view from the terrace is beautiful, I remember on a really hot day sitting under the trees in one of those comfortable chairs..in the shade of the pine trees with a cool drink,,,just looking, for hours. Then there's the hammock, spent plenty of time relaxing in that too !!! And breakfast on the terrace..splendid. If you want peace and quiet,the joy of meeting new friends , good food, in a small clean Hotel you shouldn't be dissapointed here, If you want loud music crowds of people and an entertainment package, you may not like it.
