More Traveller Reviews of Moevenpick Taba Resort
Will go back again and again

My partner and I just returned from a last minute booking through Peltours. Although unimpressed with the Airline (Astraeus) the trevel reps from Peltours were most helpful and informative. The hotel itself was amazing. Not a place to go if you like to be active but if ,like us, you're looking for a complete break and want to take it easy and relax then this is definatley the place. We were given a bungalow with a view of the beach. Although the beach is stoney the water was very clear and it was all very clean. The food in the hotel and all its restaurants is excellent. We found the buffet a bit boring after a while but with All Inclusive we were allowed to eat in one of the 3 themed restuarants off a set menu on any night of the week so long as we booked a table by 3pm on the same day. And even when we book in advance or eat of the set menu we were given a discount of 3.50 EGP per person against the final bill. Pharo's bar was a nice quiet venue for the evening with lovely staff adn excellent cocktails! During the day the hotel ran an activity programme with yoga, volleyball and even a darts tournament in. There was a disco and the Sea Shells restaurant most nights and Traditional Egyptian and Bellydancing two nights a week at the Shahrazad restaurant. We also had a fantastic massage (additional cost) onsite in the hotel. The snorkelling was fantasic although the water a bit cold. I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Movenpick returning very relaxed and refreshed. If its a quiet holiday you want then this is the perfect place - the only decisions I made in a week where which pool to lie by or where to eat in the evening! I shall definatley be returning!
Not quite as the brochure describes!

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday this is definately not the place to go! We arrived on Saturday 24 March 2007 and after a long journey were looking forward to a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. We found the main buffet and were disappointed with both the quality and quantity of food available. We returned the next morning for breakfast and found what could only be described as a holiday camp canteen on a bad day. The service was poor (took 20 minutes to get tea & coffee) food trays were empty, cutlery & crockery was dirty or not available, tables were not cleared, the floor was wet and dirty - I slipped and cricked my neck, cigarette butts were on dirty plates and left by the toasters. We didn't get one decent night's sleep; there is a serious noise issue coming from the corridors, doors slamming or outside noise as the balcony doors don't close snugly. Perhaps inner doors in the rooms would reduce the internal noise - this seems to work well in other hotels. During our visit there were alot of Israeli families who were extremely noisy and very rude and created some upset with the other guests. At times the gardens resembled a school playground. The families would congregate either in the reception or patio area and had no regard for other guests, allowing the children to run riot. The beach is shingle and the hotel was bringing in (red) sand with bulldozers and spreading it at night, adding further disruption. If by now you're still tempted to visit this Movenpick, please do not use the SeaShells restaurant - the majority of guests we spoke to who had used this outlet had returned their food to the kitchen as it was so poor. The wine glasses on the table were dirty and the waiter got rather agitated when I asked for a clean glass. The service here was generally below standard. I ended up following a waiter around trying to get a glass of wine. They did apologise and try to put it right by asking us to visit on another occasion, sadly not much had improved and we still got a bill! Some garden areas are still under development and should look good when finished but duriing our stay was rather barren. The hotel is only about 200 yards from the Israeli border and other than the Hilton being next door there is nothing else within walking distance. However as it is so close to the border Eilat is within easy reach. There were some positives; I celebrated my birthday whilst there and the staff in the chinese (Chopsticks) restaurant were outstanding. The food here was very good as it was in the Sheherzard outlet. The hotel staff were generally friendly and pleasant. The hotel did acknowledge there were some difficulties and were trying to resolve them. However as it stands I could not recommend this as a relaxing holiday destination. If things were to improve and once the hotel/grounds are complete it could be very nice and may then be worthy of 5 stars.
Good place to come for a quiet Holiday

I too have just returned from the Movenpick. My Partner and I stayed for a week (all inclusive) for a Winter break. We travelled with Libra Holidays. From the start the Libra Reps were fantastic. Polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.... The hotel itself was lovely. The reception staff were first rate. I have been to Sharm before so was wary of the staff (overbearing and pestering) but here it couldn't be further from the truth. They were all friendly and chatty but not in a letchy way. I felt very comfortable with them. Fantastic views from the pool looking over 3 other Countries (Isreal, Jordan and Saudi) with Mountains surrounding you from the other side. We both ventured into the pool and enjoyed it after the initial shock of the cold. I'm sure later in the year this would be bliss. The bar waiter was great - constantly bringing drinks as you ordered them. The indoor pool was being used by large groups of Pilgrims for prayer when we were there so we couldn't use it. So I can't comment on this. Like the last couple we are active as well. We wanted to go for a run but there was no where to go. This is it's down side. The Isreali border is about 1 minutes walk away. In the other direction there is a check point about 2 minutes walk away so that doesn't give you much to run around! The hills would be great but as the border is so close you can't go in them. There is nothing to do in the evening other than sit around the hotel reception/bar area as there are no shops or places to wander around for a change of scenery. There is only 1 other hotel close by - The Hilton with a casino in it if you like that. The food was a little uninspiring but as I like pasta (every night they cooked it fresh) and olives (the black one's were to die for!) I was more than happy. My Partner had a couple of nights when he didn't have much. There was at least 2 types of meat but not really much to go with it. The waiters were very good and attentive but the hotel was very quite so I don't know what it would be like in the Summer rush. On all inclusive everything was served by the glass - even water which I found frustrating. The choice was ok though - all local drinks. The plus side - as its so close to the border you can go to Jerusalem and Petra easily and they are worth every penny. The border taxes are a pain and I'm sure you get rippped off but you're on Holiday. Take dollars with you as they are accepted in Isreal and Jordan and all border taxes are quoted in dollars. People are saying the Hotel doesn't deserve its 5 stars. Well to be fair to the hotel this is better than the 5 star I stayed at in Sharm. The star rating doesn't seem to be the same as in England so give it a break. I think there is only 1 true 5 star and that's in Dubai. The hotel was clean, the rooms a decent size with more than 1 English TV channel, the staff were friendly and helpful so what more do you need? It is worthy of a 4 star even with the limited food choices. Overall I loved the holiday and the hotel. Sun, friendly staff, relaxing with great worthwhile tours available. However, I wont be going back again, only because there was no where to go outside the hotel. Taba Heights will be my next place - areas to run in. For a week relaxing you can't go far wrong here, especially if you get a late availability.
Wonderful Hotel, great service, amazing rooms not great food though

We are a young couple (24) and we go on holiday to chill out, relax and unwind . . . We spent 1 week at Moevenpick Taba, returning last Sunday and had one of our nicest holidays ever! Having never been to Egypt and didn’t really know what to expect, we would go back again. Hotel Lovely, clean, fresh, beautiful views, over all – excellent Rooms We upgraded to a bungalow, very good decision, massive space, lovely view, very quiet - Wonderful Facilities The hotels not finished yet and i think there will be a gym and sauna, not yet. The pools were great, indoor one is very warm, outside very cold but excellent & clean. Not much else to do. Beach Wonderful snorkelling, sea very warm, clean, sun lounges available, bar near by. Staff Very friendly great service Food Here’s where the hotel let its self down, we were all-inclusive and used the main buffet restaurant (al a carte available but at an extra cost) the food was very repetitive and some evenings at a low standard (chicken was under cooked etc). We did mention this to the staff, and within 1 hour the manager was at our room, he said he would take us to the kitchens and cook us anything we wanted, which was the plus side – again cant fault the service. Some meals we ended up just eating bread rolls and salad as the choice was not acceptable. OVERALL Everything (apart from the food) about this hotel is great, we had such a lovely time, it was very quiet when we were there and like anywhere I would imagine if it was full of people it wouldn’t be so great but overall we loved it!!! I’ve loaded on some piccies as well.
A Last Minute Break
from Merseyside_Family
My wife booked a last minute holiday for our family (2 adults & 2 children) via First Choice to the Movenpick 5* hotel in Taba. Generally the trip went well but here are a few of our thoughts for others consideering travelling here. We flew from Manchester on a First Choice 757 plane. At the time of booking we didnt realise and it was not made clear to us that our flight would stop at Gatwick to pick up more passengers before going onto Taba. Only a small problem but it did add about 1hr to 1hr 30 mins to the flight time each way. We found the First Choice flight to be very poor. The seating was very cramped and the inflight entertainment was quite old hat considering this was classed as a long haul flight. The meal on the plane was good and the staff tried to make the passengers as comfortable as possible by moving families around to empty seats. We view the flight as part of the holiday experience and were dissappointed with it. So much so that we will not be using this airline again. When we arrived at Taba International Airport we passed rapidly through immigration and collected our luggage. We didnt need to paid for visas as we only intended to stay in the Sinai area. Our First Choice rep then directed us to our mini bus for transfer to the resort. We were a little taken a back here but the aggressive demands for tips by airport staff for just lifting cases from the floor into the bus. We then commenced our trip to the resort. WOW......the road through the mountains to Taba is literally breath taking. Our bus was stopped as we entered Taba to be checked by the Police (quite normal) and we then moved onto our resort. On arrival at our resort the check in staff were very helpful and efficient. We were on are way to our room within minutes with our luggage following (well done). When we got to our room however whilst it was very spacious it was obviously not big enough for our party so off to reception we went expecting a battle. The we explained to the lady behind the desk that the room only had three beds when we needed four. She offered to put another bed in the room but it would have been to cramped for us. As my wifes voice raised out of the mist came a chap called Ian Mclachlan, who we later found out was the General Manager. Ian looked at our First Choice paperwork and established that they had been told that our party was only 2 adults and 1 child (not very good First Choice). Anyway he soon sorted the problem and we moved to a larger room which met our needs (well done Ian). Our new rooms were again very spacious with a Queen size bed and two single beds in separate rooms. We had satelite TV with several english channels and a fridge. During our stay the rooms were kept spotlessly clean by Ragab. Nothing was to much trouble for the cleaning staff. My only critisism of the rooms would be that for 5* accommodation I would have expected a high spec bathroom, being all inclusive a stocked fridge (not one were we had to pay for it to be stocked). When we went to breakfast on our first morning we were surprised to fing that there were only about 60 other guests in the hotel. On the restaurant side of things - we used the main restaurant all the time because only one of the three specialist restaurants were open. We found the food to be the biggest let down for this resort as it lacked imagination and certainly didnt warrant its 5* status. The food on offer was more or less the same every day e.g. bread and butter pudding every day is a bit much. Having said this the staff were again excellent. We were surprised to have to pay for french fries as part of our meal. The beach area is naturally stoney but they have imported sand by the sun loungers. The beach snack bar was okay and the staff again helpful. We used the Pharoahs bar in the evenings for a drink or two. On the all inclusive package you could have what every local spirits you wanted and tea / coffee but surprisingly hot chocolate was payable! The childrens club facility was excellent but unfortunately the staff running it were very poor. To be fair it is a new facility and there were only a handful of kids. The hotel had a heated indoor swimming pool which was excellent. This was a favourite with the kids. Much was made of the famous Movenpick ice cream before we arrived at the resort. We were quite surprised to find out that even on the all inclusive package you had to pay for it. Come on now-hot climate - kids - all inclusive - it should be available all day if we want. All in all eventhough the Movenpick is graded as 5* we would class it as 3* to 4* as a result of all the above (particularly the food). There are lots of places to see in the world and although we initially thought we may go back again on reflection because of the negative aspects to our trip we probably wouldnt.
not bad

the hotel is OK and not more. no activities in the hotel and the erea at this period of time. the food is good for "tourist" but not for me as a person that live in NAZARETH (4 h driving) and know what oriental food is ! the outside pool is very cold "no body get in". the heated indoor pool is too small if you compare it with the hotel. spa is under construction. nice place for relaxing, but if you ask me as a person that have been in alot of hotels in SINAI i"ll choose other hotels.... there are plenty of hotels in TABA and SHARM, so if you already decided to come to SINAI, why this hotel ? rayeq@017.net.il

Superb Hotel/Staff

From arrival to departure we were treated superbly and made to feel comfortable and very welcome. Having stayed at many destinations worldwide (mainly 4 & 5 star hotels) and several Movenpick hotels, it is rare to see top management really getting involved with their guests to ensure the perfect stay. The hotel is new and fresh although not fully complete (i.e. sauna/spa some landscaping etc) Ian the General Manager assured us that this would be completed very shortly. The standard rooms we saw looked very good however we felt that the upgrade to the bungalows was worth it. We stayed in the bungalows and they are spacious, modern and immaculate (well done housekeeping!). The location of the bungalows are a little more exclusive having their own well maintained pool areas. If you have a problem while staying at this hotel tell them if it can be resolved they will do it DO NOT WAIT until you return to England and moan on the website its too late !!! We had a very pleasant time at the Movenpick Taba.
Fantastic hotel with exceptional staff
from SouthLondon
The hotel and location are lovely - good hotel, great view, lovely sea. However, what made this hotel really special was the staff. They were exceptional. They made us so very welcome. During our stay my daughter became very sick (with a undiagnosed illness that she has before she left the UK). The staff worked so hard to get her into hospital and make her (and us) comfortable. I am not sure what we would have done without them. Every member of the team from the General Manager to the guys who service your rooom were really special. If you want a beautiful place to stay, great people and a good beach them this is the place for you.
a lovely hotel

My partner and i went on holiday for a week to Taba and after having problems at the hotel we were staying in we were transfered for the rest of our holiday to the Movenpick. From the moment we arrived we were treated well, receiving a welcome drink and an introduction from the hotel manager. Our hotel room was nice and big and very clean and we received 2 large bottles of water the day we arrived. The food at the hotel was delicious, lots of choice including lunch by the beach and different theme nights as well as the fantastic 3 a la carte restaurants (we ate at the greek and chinese one). The hotel has many swimming pools including one with a pool bar and an indoor one for when its too cold. Also the beach is right next to the hotel and my partner went snorkelling and saw the most amazing fish( well worth doing). Sadly the only thing this hotel lacks is evening entertainment although they do have a family disco which we didnt go to. Most evenings we sat in the bar and had drinks or went for a nice meal. If you want a nice relaxing holiday with great service and fantastic food then this is the hotel in Taba to go to. If you do go make sure you meet the 2 hotel managers Allah and Sharif who made us feel welcome and enjoyed sitting up in the bar chatting with us to the early hours.
I loved it at the Movenpick where I went last year in July with my family. I'm going again this year because it's cheap and wonderful. the food was lovely, I didn't mind much that it was busy, I actually perferred it to the other resturant which seemed lifeless. I loved... more
