Having read some unfavourable reviews of this hotel we didn't know what to expect.
we stayed at the hotel for one week starting from 28/02/2012

DINING ROOM: Very busy and there was always long queues for the coffee every morning and afternoon
loads of people complained that the food was cold and i agree
POOL: if you didnt get up early in the morning all the beds were taken but you expect that in spain

ROOMS: Good size clean room. plenty of wardrobe space there was a Flat screen TV on wall we finally found out how to change the channels from spanish to English

We weren't fussed about being all inclusive.so We left the hotel during the day and in the evening even
The hotel is situated in a good location ,would recommend getting a room pool side if possible
to summaries our Holiday enjoyed the break nice to get some sun

This hotel is pretty average for Tenerife.
Went all inclusive. Food OK but very repetitive. Meat 80% pork on the grill.. But plenty of other food to choose from. Main problem is queuing to get into restaurant and then at the grill/coffee machine etc. Rooms a bit jaded but clean and serviced daily. Hotel staff very good and overall a nice hotel in a good position. 3 pools, but have to be up early to get a sunbed.
Drinks usual weak local beer and spirits, so don't stay here unless half board otherwise paying €3.50 for weak beer is a bit much!

was pleasantly surprised on arrivel after reading poor reviws on this hotel Yes it could do with updating rooms but they were very clean and we had our sheets changed 3 times in 2 weeks and towels changed every day plenty hot water good showers and comfortable beds We were all inclusive and thought it was good value for money there was a choice of at least 8 main courses every night and always something plain on the grill if you were a fussy eater pool was cleanand alwaysmanaged to get a sunbed even in the afternoon although some selfish people put towels out every morning with no intention of using them until much later This is not the hotels fault it is the bad manners of some guests staff were all cheery and helpful had a light bulb went out one night went to reception to let them know and by the time I went back up in the lift the maintenance man was there to replace it Cannot get better service than that The bar staff eduardo, pedro ,maria and james bond 008 were great fun and hte waiters and waitresses in the restaurant very pleasant and helpful I really enjoyed it and would defiately go back

We stayed at the Esmeralda Playa for one week in August - it is definately NOT 4 Star more like 2 *. As you walk up to the main entrance you are slightly misled, as the reception area is large, open plan and quite modern, with a large sweeping stair case, it's a shame the hotel rooms are not of the same standard!
Our party had two rooms, each of was different, the air conditioning was poor in both rooms as was the decor, although I must stress we had an amazing sea view from our balcony.
The food was very poor if you like pork you will have no problems as this was on the menu in way of the other EVERY NIGHT!! after 4 nights we were fed up of the lack of choice and cold foos and ventured out for some amazing meals in local restaurants.
The beer/drinks were very pricey in the hotel - there is a very cheap supermarket opposite with many alco pops (barcardi breezers and bottled beer - stella)_for 1 euro per bottle!!
The pool was also a let down, the lining of the pool was coming away from the floor so felt weird when walking in it! and as usual you get the reserved sunbeds before 9.00am every day, even though is states not to do this!
All I would say about this hotel is that it is in a great position, close to the beach, bars and restaurants. The waterpark is within walking distance and the free bus stop for Siam Park is also nearby.
Siam Park is a definate must see, we throughly enjoyed our week in Tenerife and would recommend to all our friends and family - BUT DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!

The worst 'Hotel' I have ever been in

I simply can not say enough bad things about this place. The approach to the hotel looks OK and at first glance the reception seems fine....then the rot sets in!! The lifts small, rattly and smelly. The corridors to the rooms dingy and dirty. We entered our room and there were a couple still in it! When we got that sorted we noted broken floor tiles, holes in the walls, threadbare bedding, dead plants in the balcony planter etc. Our kids room was worse - the shower curtain was mouldy and mounted at an angle, there was badly painted wooden boxing in the bathroom, threadbare bedding, broken floor tiles, the balcony, while large, had plaster falling off the walls etc. I could go on.
The restaurant was awfull. The staff rude, the food bad, the coffee machine produced something undrinkable.
The pool has seen better days.
The lounge chairs are threadbare and the ceiling tiles are yellowed and sagging.
The next day after arriving we contacted the holiday rep and complained. We showed her the rooms and it was obvious that she could not believe it. We were moved immediatley to the Jackaranda. Chalk and cheese!
My advice - no matter how attractive the deal just don't do it. Suitable for students and teenagers paying rock bottom not couples or famalies looking for a reasonable standard.

Stayed at this hotel Aug 2010 for 1 week half board. On arrival reception staff were quick to check us in. On entering the room we found it was very clean and enough room for the three of us, myself, partner and 4 year old son. Breakfast the next day was good, lots of choice as was dinner, although no childrens section, and no labels to tell you exactly was you was eating. The three pools were clean and seemed safe and a lifeguard kept watch mostly all day. Childrens pool was a good size with plenty of sunbeds around it for us to keep watch. Entertainment was a real let down it was indoors not out by the pool and seemed to be more geared towards the spanish, mostly bingo, keyboard players and animaal shows. It all looked rubbish so we ate early and went out to have a drink by the beach which was just a short walk away and had a great bar called Cafe Dubai/ Bahia Beach Bar. Also the drinks and pool food were very expensive so we ate out at lunch we brought all water and soft drinks at one of the shops across the road as it was so much cheaper. This hotel is rated as four star but some parts of hotel dinning room, games room, bedrooms and bars need updating so you will have to make your own mind up. Overall a very clean, well run hotel although very overpriced shop, drinks and food.

Great hotel

This hotel was great for our family of four (2 adults, a 14 year old and a 12 year old). All the common areas were attractive and clean. Very spacious. The food (we were half board) was excellent. There was different food everyday for dinner, with more than enough choice for the fussier eaters. We couldn't think of anything else you could add to the breakfast menu as there was so much to choose from. Reception desk was english speaking and helpful. Lifeguard at the 3 pools (one baby pool, one warm main pool and a slightly colder 3rd pool)which never felt crowded. Mattresses on the sunbeds were good. Unfortunately the sign about not being able to reserve sunbeds seemed to be ignored by all, so it can be hard to get a sunbed later in the day. Our room was huge and clean but had very basic wooden furniture, which seemed to be at odds with the high standard of fittings throughout the rest of the hotel. That said it was more than adequate for our needs but wonder if this is why people have been saying it is not a 4 star hotel. The room was a family room with large bathroom (bath, shower, washbasin, bidet and toilet), large bedroom with double bed, large living room which had loads of room for the pull out bed to be left set up all day in the corner, also a tv and fridge, large balcony with patio furniture overlooking the pool and front of the hotel and with a superb view across the sea. There were wardrobes and mirrors everywhere and a safety deposit box. At least 2 rooms just along from us were being refurbished while we were there, so hopefully it is an ongoing programme which will update all the rooms to match the rest of the hotel. Took 5 minutes to walk to the beach (which was sandy, clean, child friendly and loads of good waves late in the afternoon) and a small supermarket is directly opposite the hotel, with a larger one being a few minutes walk away. Variety of entertainment provided each night although we didn't watch any of it. We bought our drinks and made up a lunchtime sandwich from the supermarket instead of paying out the hotel prices as, like all hotels, it would have cost a lot to keep buying food and drink at the hotel bar. Would definitely recommend this hotel

My wife and i came here for our honeymoon on arrival the reception staff were helpful and on request arranged a double room instead of twin, that is where the helpfullness ended, breakfast dinner and tea all the same, cold food tastless and either over or under cooked the rooms although clean and comfy are not 4* standard... And since when does a do not disturb sign mean clean me please !!!! we were also challenged by the hotel manager as to how many people were booked into the room and was very argumentative when shown our documents very rude !!!!!! the pool was ok and all in all tenerife is a very nice place but i would personally never book with this hotel again but it is your decision to make !!!

This was my first trip to Tenerife and my husband and I stayed at the Esmeralda Playa Hotel on a half board basis for one week.
The plusses were: Near to the beach, in a quieter area, nice clean rooms, impressive lobby/lounge area. Towels are changed every day and beach towels can be hired for 10 euros returnable deposit per week. You can get clean ones daily if needed. This saves some space in your case. A hairdryer is provided.
The minuses were: The Plumbing ( shower and especially toilet)and room doors were really noisy. The staff were not welcoming/helpful or pleasant. There wasn't much choice of food and apart from the main meats nothing was labelled. It wasn't presented nicely. The bread was stale everyday as it is all put out at once and you have to be in the dining room quite early to have any choice at all. Cooked food wasn't very hot. You have to pay for all drinks served at Dinner.
The entertainment was boring and a long laborious process as the compere had to translate into 3 languages. If you like Bingo you will love it.
You will have to be up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed as towel reservations are allowed. Grrrrrrrrr
