Hotel Description:
This is a wonderful hotel with a great central location right on the beach with glistening turquoise waters and powder-soft white sand. There is a very relaxing feel in the spacious reception, and it will be hard not to find a quiet area in the comfortable lounge to sit and decide which of the spectacular Dominican sights to see first. loading...

Occidental Grand Flamenco Punta Cana Hotel Reviews
" When we checked in we were taken to... "
Submitted By: Miss H J Holt
When we checked in we were taken to our room. Our initial impression of the room was not good. The TV didn't work and the view was of gas canisters. So my partner went to reception to see if we could change rooms.
The staff were very accommodating and gave use 3 sets of keys to go and look at the rooms and decide which one we would like. The staff were always friendly. The all inclusive beverages were excellent. The beach was lovely with water sport activities available and a beach bar which served food and beverages.
There were two restaurants on site which you didn't have to book which were the international buffet and pizzeria. My only disappointment was that you had to go down to reception in a morning and book for the other restaurants. Which normally involved a big queue. The restaurants were worth it though, with a choice of Mexican, Chinese, Italian and steak house.
The pools and the entertainment were also good. Overall we had a brilliant holiday.

" Beach: Wonderful beach, sand is kept... "

Beach: Wonderful beach, sand is kept very clean, ocean can be moderately rough though for some folks.
Food: Disappointed with buffet, food was almost always overcooked and oily. Reminded me of bad school canteen food although desserts were generally good. The a la carte restaurants were good though, I'd recommend all of them but especially the Grill. In all the restaurants I found the service to be quite good particularly the table staff.
Bars: Service was prompt and friendly but beware they do make strong drinks also all the bars had the same decor, atmosphere some variety would be welcome.
Rooms: This is where the problems started, the accommodation was clean but in dire need of repair both minor and major. We ended up having to change rooms because of a torrential flood from the shower in the room above but even before that the door wouldn't close properly something we only noticed after coming back to an open room a couple of times. The washroom fittings kept coming off, draws wouldn't open etc. We also killed a couple of cockroaches in our room. In the second room we moved to the satellite TV didn't work and the bath tub wouldn't drain and we had an infestation of tiny ants in the washroom, the room smelled like a toilet and another leak from the air conditioning. Our rooms were in Buildings 18 and 16.
Hotel Receptions: The room problems we had wouldn't have bothered us anywhere as much if it wasn't for the attitude of the Front Desk. With water flooding through the ceiling I called three times and was told that someone would be coming to fix it and clean up... no one showed. It was only after going in person to the Front Desk that the staff bothered to log our problem and only after another visit in person that they moved us to another room. The worst part was that all through this episode not once did the Front Desk apologize for the problem. Even before the flood, we'd noticed that reception often hung up on you, or told you whatever you wanted to hear just to get rid of you.
Entertainment: The "Fun Club" dance troupe/entertainers tried their best but the evening shows were all a much of a muchness. If you don't like Latin music then do not go to this resort! even if you do I guarantee you'll be sick of it by the end of the trip.

Being two 31 year old girls, we felt completely safe and were not bothered my male attention you get at some resorts!
We could not complain about the food at all-so much to chose from and very tasty-try the Mexican, its fab!
The staff were lovely and rooms cleaned daily, again we could not complain.
The entertainment was excellent and there is something for everyone, although playing football in 90degrees after a few beers by the pool did knock me for six!
The only downside of this holiday is that at weekends, they let the locals stay and they come in their hundreds, are quite obnoxious and do push in at the bar and restaurants.
We found that at this time, the staff tend to serve their own first which does create tension and anger with the guests understandably.
We found that if you push too, it’s the only way to get served!
Try ocean world for a day out and swim with the dolphins, its magical, monster truck is fab too, and also paradise island. You go on a speedboat to the island, have lunch and the sands are white with typical Caribbean turquoise waters-beautiful.
We are booking to go back to the Dominican, although we may try another part.
Book this and you can’t go wrong if you can cope with the weekends of Dominicans. Have a fab time all!
