Excellent hotel.
We have stayed here several times over the last 5 years & have always had an excellent stay.
The staff are very accommodating, courteous and friendly. You can't help but be impressed by the marble reception and doormen.
Ideally located for the floating flower market, Rembrantplien, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops.
Buffet breakfast is a very European, breads, croissants, meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon & scrambled egg.
The hotel is really clean, air conditioning in rooms is great in summer or winter, like any hotel in Amsterdam, street rooms can be a little noisy with the windows open during the day but we have never had a problem sleeping. It's great to have tea & coffee making facilities which not all hotels in Amsterdam have.
I would highly recommend staying there!!!

A stone's throw from the famous floating flower market, five minutes walking distance of the bustling Rembrantplein (great Italian restaurant, Irish pub for fry-ups, and two excellent coffee shops) and 15 minutes walk of Dam Sq. and the Red Light Area, the Jolly Hotel Carlton is in a perfect location for all the sights and sounds that Amsterdam offers.
Built for the Olympic Games in 1928 and the first concrete building in Amsterdam, the four star Jolly Hotel is decorated in a contemporary Italian style.
We were staying in a standard twin room which was of a very reasonable size (enhanced by a huge dressing table mirror), complete with en-suite, cable TV, trouser press and tea/coffee making facilities. Although we did not spend a lot of time in the hotel itself, while there we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff. The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard and bed linen/towels were changed/replenished each day. There was also a nifty 'Do Not Disturb' button which activated a light outside your door to prevent over-eager chambermaids waking you up to clean the room if you had had a late one the night before.
Although the room looked out onto a busy street, the inclusion of blackout curtains and double glazing ensured that sleep was never disturbed, in fact the view was also a bonus. The hotel also has an integrated Italian restaurant which apparently has a very good reputation in the city - I did not try it myself, but the place was always full and reasonably priced.
I would strongly suggest using the Connexions shuttle buses to and from the hotel - we got hit with expensive taxi fares the first time and this saved us a lot. Book a return ticket from the kiosk as you leave the airport, then get the hotel to ring up to book the pick up (at least 2 hours before your journey) - hassle free and nice and cheap!
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends and will definitely be returning sometime in the future.

When we booked this hotel we were a bit worried as we had seen a couple of poor reviews. Everything was perfect, we were upgraded to a superior room which was gorgeous, very big, spotless, we had two 4ft beds.
There was a towelling robe and slippers for the ladies, plenty of tea and coffee. Very peaceful at night. The location was perfect 5 mins to dam square 10 mins to leids square, in fact everywhere was in walking distance.
The heating was on 24/7 to adjust as required. The weather was freezing when we were there. The bathroom had 2 basins, a bath and shower and all the shampoos flannels hairdryer etc. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. All the Dutch are lovely people.
We booked through cheeptravel via internet and had a very good price. From the airport we took the Schipol shuttle mini bus which leaves every1/2 hr it took us straight to the hotel and cost £24 (35euros)return for 2 people
excellent service. (no need to prebook).
There is plenty to do and see in Amsterdam for all ages, loads of bars, restaurants etc. This hotel is the most efficiently run hotel we have ever stayed in. We will definitely be going back.

Stayed at the 4-star Jolly Carlton Hotel in Amsterdam with my husband on a 5 day visit to the city. We had been before so we had a rough idea of where we wanted to stay. The location of this hotel is absolutely superb. Its very central, right alongside the flower market and within walking distance of some great cafes, bars and restaurants.
We had a 6th floor room which was perfectly clean but could have done with a lick of paint. It was quite cramped.
The public areas of the hotel are all quite stunning, with marble everywhere!
The staff were all quite friendly and helpful and they all spoke perfect English.
The breakfast was great - a huge selection of cheeses, meats and fruit.
Overall, I was slightly disappointed in our room, but we had got a good deal through Hotel Connect. I would go back to The Jolly Carlton if a good deal came up.
