The location (Plat)is not nice, although the hotel swim is very nice and nice views from there.
There are nothing to visit in Plat and only one street with few turistic restaurants.
There are no parking available, you have to park in the only round that exist.
The rooms are confortable, and all of them with balcony in front of the sea.
Simple Hotel but correct and clean.

Just returned from a weeks stay at Hotel Orphee in Plat.
Plat is a tiny, quiet resort that consists mainly of the Orphee hotel and a few apartment blocks. There are several small pebbly beach coves nearby, two of which have beach bars. (rubber shoes recommended as the pebbles can be sore and hot) Beach loungers for a family of 4 and a couple of brollies would cost you £12 a day which would add up over the space of a fortnight, if you preferred the beach to the pool. Speaking of the pool, it’s sal****er, which wasn’t mentioned on the globespan website, not really a problem, just something to consider when comparing hotels.
Our room was comfortable and had free airconditioning. All rooms in the Orphee have balconies and face the sea, however, trees may obscure sea views from some rooms. Maid service was great and very friendly, as was hotel reception staff.
Food in the hotel was pretty basic, perhaps a ploy to get you to eat at the two neighbouring, hotel owned, restaurants, which served better fare. However, take a short walk up the hill and you’ll find King’s taverna, we ate there once and the seafood was fantastic, I had a seafood Buzzara starter which consisted of two dozen plus mussels, 8 large king prawns and a mini-lobster on top, for under £10. Their speciality is whole sea bass, cooked on the grille and smothered in garlic butter, absolutely fantastic!
Evening entertainment at the hotel was different to say the least, entertaining in a ‘ if you don’t laugh you’ll cry’ way. A three piece guitar and keyboard band belting out 70’s and 80’s hits from Abba, Boney ‘ m etc. all in a Vic Reeves club singer fashion.
20 mins away by boat is the pretty harbour port / village of Cavtat, the restaurants there are well worth a visit, again specialising in sea-food.
Dubrovnik is 40 minutes away by boat, beautiful city, however, very busy during the day when the cruise liners offload their day trippers, so an evening visit when it’s cooler and quieter would be advisable.
We travelled by boat everywhere, cost quite a bit more but much more pleasant than getting buses.
Sadly, Plat and Mlini still show the scars of past conflict, there are still lots of empty homes, apartments, bars, restaurants and hotels, all of which have been riddled with bullet holes and in some cases heavy artillery. This is a shame, however on a positive note, with the large hotels being empty means the place is a lot quieter than it otherwise would be.
I would recommend Orphee hotel for those looking for a quiet get away from it all break, however, if I were to return I’d go to Mlini or Cavtat which both have more choice of bars and restaurants.

What a lovely, quiet and friendly...

What a lovely, quiet and friendly place. On arrival you are sitting on the coach wondering where you have just landed as you have just gone past some still standing war torn buildings!! But hey once off the coach into the reception a little piece of heaven awaits when you are given your room keys... They had given us the option to stay at Villas Plat we stayed at Villa Barbara which was just fab. The option was given as the rooms where more practical for us than the Orphee as we had a child in hand for two weeks the villas came with a kitchen and a larger 3rd bed.
The rooms were spotless and cleaned to a very good standard daily and the bedding was also changed weekly. The guests in the Orphee also complimented the chamber maids. We were all commenting on how great the power showers were... they really did do the job!! Our meals were taken down in the Orphee the duty manager and all the staff were very helpful and always on hand should you have needed them.
The local beaches are pebble beaches but this was great as they were not overrun and loungers were readily available for about 4 croatian kuna a day... advisable to take sea shoes... the waves you'll find are just magical and awesome!! The beach bar well recommended the staff there are so friendly.
I would recommend a Dubrovnik sea trip and a boat trip into Cavtat. All in all Hotel Orphee and Villas Platt this is just a lovely little hotel complex not too far away from the airport 15 mins max. Staff friendly enough and the pool setting is just fab. However for the less agile ie. oap guests due to the location I would not recommend. Put this aside and if you wanting to just get away from the rat race and relax this place is just that .. relaxing and refreshing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
If you don't expect too much out of life then just sometimes you are impressed by hidden gems like this one.

We had a fabulous holiday. Our room was lovely & clean & had a balcony overlooking the beach. We had fresh towels every morning & the beds changed during our weeks stay. The local buses were easy to use. Most people speaking English. The hotel had no entertainment but was a quiet haven to relax.
The bar staff are really friendly and give you lots of advice on places to visit. We enjoyed Dubrovnik old town, Cavtat and the island of Lokrum (take your swimming costume as the sea is so beautifully clear that you just have to go in).
The food was a little predictable & could have been better but there was plenty of it & it was hot & filling.
The pool was great. My husband & daughter swam as we watched the sun setting. What a beautiful place!

Myself and my husband have just returned from a weeks stay at Hotel Orphee. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday. The Hotel was sparkling clean. Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff. Everyone was friendly.
There are a lot of steps about but this is pointed out in the brochure. The biggest 2 beaches did have showers and changing cubicles. The hotel pool was fabulous, one of the best we have come across in our many holidays over the years. The food in the hotel was quite good. It was a buffet service. There was always plenty of choice at breakfast and evening meal. The bistro was nice, it served a good pizza which we had at lunch on a couple of occasions.
There were a couple of souvenir shops, a hairdressers, car hire and a place to book excursions. A tourist bus calls at the hotel in the morning and brings you back in the afternoon. The hotel also has its own shuttle bus which goes to Dubrovnik and Cavtat. Also there are water taxis to both places as well. The staff have done a really good job of getting the hotel and villas back into use after the war which was only a decade ago.
There are signs of war damage in the unused buildings e.g. bullet holes, but most of these buildings are covered with green nets. They are going to be sorted out soon we were told. We are looking forward to going back again in the near future.

We have just returned from the Hotel Orphee. We found the staff in all areas very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in Plat which is very quiet, but this is great if you want a relaxing holiday. There are three beaches within close proximity (although it does involve going down some steep steps). The hotel has a good swimming pool which is very clean. We stayed half board which worked out really well, it was a buffet service with lots of variety. The rooms were relatively big and very clean. It is easy to catch a bus or to go by boat into Dubrovnik or Cavat.

The most beautiful setting overlooking the sea, which is crystal clear. The room was very adequate and very clean, with a lovely view overlooking the sea.
Staff very friendly, only go for bed and breakfast because the food is dreaful! If you go self catering then bring some food with you or travel to the nearest town, 15 mins away. Good bus and boat service to towns.

Went to the Hotel Orphee and have never felt so unwelcome at a hotel, from reception to the buffet to the chambermaid manager. We felt like we were a burden not guests.
(The pool guy, bistro (which has good pizza) and supermarket lady were nice to us)
The view from the pool is beautiful. The rooms are clean but fairly basic and if you are lucky you do get a lovely view from your room onto the nearby beach. It is a 15-20 min walk up a steep hill to the bus, which can be hard in the hot sun. It is has to be done as there nothing else in the area.
If you do want to go to Croatia Go to Cavtat where they understand what tourism is about and are friendly. There is a beautiful little beach there too.
Many of the people we encountered in the tourist area of Dubrovnik were unfriendly to the point of rude. I am not saying everyone is, but we did encounter a lot of them - bus drivers, waiters, waitresses, tour guides, souvenir shop assistants - you would think they were paying you to be there! Also the food is not very good, pretty basic.
There one restaurant I would recommend and it's a little Mexican restaurant called Chiuaua outside old town which is really friendly and absolutely delicious and is a must.
Do not go to the Renaissance restaurant in old town
Croatia beautiful and the seas are warm good for snorkelling (FYI there are no showers on the main beaches like other destinations and do buy rubber shoes they are work it). But it is not cheap. Go there for no more than 5 days.
Personally I think there are other places in the world worth a visit first.

We had a great time in Croatia - it's...

Feb 2006, Miss S Bryan

We had a great time in Croatia - it's extremely cheap and the weather was absolutely beautiful when we went (1st week of May) bar one rainy day.
The Orphee hotel has a lovely swimming pool, great sea views and friendly staff. There is a lovely open air bar but it is the only one so you are a bit stuck if it rains. The food caters for a European market - there were lots of German and French tourists at the hotel - but there is plenty of variety and you can eat as much as you like at breakfast or dinner if you are staying half board as it is buffet style.
There isn't much at Plat apart from the hotel but the resort offers minibus and boat rides to Dubrovnik (about 15 mins) and Cavtat (about 10 mins) where there is a lot more to do. You do have to pay extra for these. The rooms were good sized with a balcony overlooking the sea.
