Great spot
Just back from two weeks staying at the Playa Club and it is a great spot. Nice and quiet by the pool but close enough to all the nightlife too. The rooms were a great set up for self catering apartments. Full working oven, decent hob, toaster, (no kettle but you can rent one if you don't fancy boiling water in a pot) and breakfast bar. Rooms were cleaned most days and the balconys were big enough that you could lie out on them if you wanted. this was a good thing as the one complaint I have is that there weren't always enough sunbeds beside the pool. they do have grassy areas though which are nice that have beds on them too. It is policy that you are not to reserve the beds but this wasn't reinforced and most of them were full by 9-10a.m. Most days we just moved the towels if nobody came down to them and it was fine. the pool area was always very clean and the pool was cleaned every night and we saw staff testing the water during the day too to check everything was ok. the pool bar was adequate, did the job, provided food and drink even if it was fairly basic. Nice staff though. The apartments were very good in terms of location. We were situated in the newer part of the resort accross the road from the casino for anyone who knows the area. There were numerous supermarkets close by and you were within a few minutes walk from both the beach and the old town, the harbour was probably 20-30 minutes walk but a nice stroll along the front. Had a lot of good meals out at night. Wouldn't recommend the lani's near the apartment though, food was fairly average and the service was only the same. For a great english breakfast if that's the way you choose to eat I'd say go to the Barge Inn. Great staff and good grub. We also went on the Catalanza (catamaran cruise). Highly recommend it. They have a morning or afternoon sailing. Once you get on they take you up the coast to Papaguya Beaches and then let you out for an hour or two, snorkling gear, jet ski ride, all food and drink provided. Dear enough but worth every penny in my view. Would definately go back to both the apartments and resort.
Great location
Stayed in Playa Club for 3 weeks in June with my mother, her husband and my grandmother. We rented a wheelchair for my grandmother so it was easier to get around. I strongly recommend this if you or somebody you’re traveling with has difficulties getting around. It just makes life so much easier and the stay more enjoyable. Right....the hotel! Accomodation The appartment was very nice and clean. Quite cosy and well organized compared to price. I mean this is no 5 star hotel but we were pleasantly surprised. You have most of the basic things you need...except we had to buy a brush and soap to do the dishes and tea towels. The cleaning ladies we’re very dilligent and did a good job (it’s a good idea to tip them a little bit every day...we tipped them 2 euros a day). They clean the rooms 5 times a week and change towels quite frequently....ooh...one thing...the roaches...we were on the first floor so we had a few of them pop by for a visit. The door that leads to the street does not reach all the way to the floor, there’s a gap between, just put a towel there or something (to block the gap) and you wont be bothered by them...at least that worked for us. Pool area There are two swimming pools (one for kids and the other for adults) and they are surrounded by sun benches. Pretty standard. There are a few rules that guests are supposed to follow, but they don’t, and the staff is supposed to see to it, but they don’t (you can find this info in the brochure that comes with the room). Inflatable items are not allowed in the adult pool (so that people can swim) but it was usually full of those....so no swimming, wasn’t happening. It is also forbidden to “order” a sun bench. You know what I mean, placing your towel on it but not using it for a couple of hours. The staff are instructed to take the towels that are sitting on unused benches and give them to the reception. They don’t do this and as people can be very rude and self centered naturally all the benches were “taken” at like 10 every morning but only a handful of people actually using them. So we gave up on the pool area....wich is ok cause the sea is much better anyway. Hotel bar Not really much of a bar...one guy and club sandwiches. The biggest sports events were often shown on the telly and that was quite popular with some people. If ye be a young and attractive female type creature expect hungry glances from the bartender. He’s harmless though, just likes to look a lot. Reception First and foremost: If you read somewhere that there’s a wireless internet connection in the lobby then you have been misinformed (as I was). There are three ancient PC’s there and 10 minutes on the internet costs 1 euro. I did not find a place in Puerto del Carmen where I could use my laptop to accsess the internet. I’m sure there is one somewhere but I couldn’t find it and the reception staff would not help me find it (I did find place where you can use the internet though....and plug in a USB card if ye need to. It is also cheaper then the hotel computers. It’s on Avenida de las playas closer to the old town...if you walk from the hotel you see it eventually, like 10 min walk). This is my only real problem with Playa Club, the staff in the reception. They’re very nice, smile a lot. But I’ve never encountered a less helpful reception staff. The thing is you ask “do you know where I can use wireless internet” R: “No sorry” M: “Can you help me find a place?” R: “No sorry, I can’t”....but smiling through the whole conversation...weird. First when we arrived we only got one key, so we asked the reception for another. No problem...we got a key, my grandmother went to bed and we could go out on the town. We came home at like 2 in the morning but the key didn’t work so I went to the reception to talk to the nightwatch (they don’t speak english...the women that do the night shifts). She doesn’t have an extra key...no master key. She says to us...”you have to wake your grandmother up. If that doesn’t work there are always couches in the lobby”. It’s ridiculous!!...So we had to wake up an 83 year old women drugged up with sleeping pills...shouting through the bedroom window. The reception also sent us to a wrong address...we were misinformed again and again. So just don’t talk to them...they don’t seem to know what they are talking about. Right...that’s enough of that then. Location The best part. It’s close to the main beach but there’s a tiny beach just across the street (behind/next to the casino sort of) that’s much nicer than the big one...in my opinion anyway. When you stand on the main road “avenida de las playas” when you come out of the hotel you face the see. If you turn right you’re heading towards a lot of pubs and discos, the night life. If you turn left you’re going to a calmer area, more restaurants and quiet pubs. The big beach is also to the right....and if you walk for like 20 minutes you’ll eventually end up in the old town (very romantic...a lot of good restaurants...tapas....mmmmm). If you like live music I suggest 2 irish pubs on the avenida de las playas “Mulligans” and “Charlie’s”....they’re cover bands...play popular music, but they are very good. If you like Mojitos then go to the cocktail bar to the left on the avenida. There’s one next to the casino (don’t go there for a Mojito!) then two shops and then another one. Go to that one. The best Mojitos in Puerto del Carmen and close to the hotel too, very handy. A few things: There’s a supermarket in the hotel called NETTO. Don’t use the little shop on the corner (you’ll see what I mean) it’s SOOO expensive. There’s also a supermarket just 5 min up the street (Calle Pedro Barba) called SPAR...They sell meat an all (NETTO doesn’t), if you like to cook. There’s a Laundrette at the top of the same street as the hotel (calle Pedro Barba). The reception does not seem to be aware of this. If you want to rent a car use PLUS across the street from the hotel. The prices are fair (we did some research) and the girl working there is very helpful and nice (she helped me with things the reception wouldn’t). She also speaks excellent english. I do recommend renting a car. There are many interesting places to see: El Golfo, The caves (del agua & verde), Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Puerto Callero....a lot of great places. The mosquitos in Lanzarote are especially fierce so put anti bug cream on your body and buy the thing you plug in the wall. I’ve never been bitten before this...but they wouldn’t leave me alone in Lanzarote....or anybody else for that matter. --We fell in love with Lanzarote and are going back for sure! It's the perfect place, it really is. Very clean, fun, the people are friendly. Just wonderful.
Try the SPA, Heaven
the place is absolutely stunning! the food is gorgeous! it is in a perfect location, not too far from the entertainment but far enough that you get a good night's sleep. The Spa is situated on the grounds and guests get to use it for €7 for an hour and half or more! there is alot to do there between thermal baths, massage showers etc. Worth trying. We were only sorry we didn't discover it til the second last day!
Great Holiday
Just back from Playa Club, stayed there for a week. We had a great holiday, the apartments are kept very clean, and it is so peaceful and quiet, very nice pool area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The apartments are in a lovely area. there are plenty of bars and places to eat, and the food was great. The T-bone steaks are to die for and are not expensive. We did the Grand tour of the Island and it was well worth the money, we would recommend it to anyone.
This place is heaven - IGNORE BAD REVIEWS
Three of us stayed at Playa Club for 1 week and it was sheer heaven. It is a self catering complex and you get exactly whats in the brochure. The complex was extremely peaceful and relaxing. It was so idyllic we really loved it. Playa Club is slap bang in the middle of everything - it really is perfectly located. The staff were very friendly and endearing and i really recommend the pool bar for drinkers - the measures are out of this world AND THEY USE REAL ALCOHOL as opposed to some bars and clubs on the island. Really, one drink in there and you are on your back. Get a cocktail in the bar and you won't need another drink all week lol. The apartments are quiet and suitable for anyone from old to young and families to singles. They run a quiet zone policy from 11pm to 7.30am which works reallly well. The food is perfect at the pool bar and restaurant its cheap and tasty and the portions are adequate. We have stayed many places but rate Playa Club amongst the best and are definitely going back next year. I can't imagine why anyone would book anywhere else.
playa club -excellent location
just back from the playa club and i found it to be a good accomadation in an excellent location off the strip of puerto del carmen- its one of the few accomadations on the flat and not up a hill in the resort the beach is only a short walk away and all the shops, bars and restaurants are a 2 min walk - we ate in the playa club restaurant and got a full pizza for 5euro the bar in the apartments is very quiet and closes early but there is never anyone there for them to keep it open any longer as there are so many other bars in the area-try the cocktail bar across the road and route 66 and tropical bar down the road any of lanis restaurants offer exc food and the american indian cafe i found the apartments to be clean and well maintained - they are cleaned every day except friday and sunday-the kitchen is well layed out and fans can be hired as there is no air conditioning the reception staff are very helpful and will order a taxi and give information about the area - safety deposit boxes can be hired and reception is open 24 hours i stayed in apartment 150 and found it to be in a good spot-on lower level with terrace and chairs and table and right across from the pool- early morning check ins can disturb your sleep as the suitcases dragging along the path can be loud but this is rare id def go back to the playa club apartments and the new town is the nicer end of puerto del carmen ( turn left when you come out of the apartments as the shops down this end are cheaper than the ones on the way to the old town!!)
Wont be back to Playa Club.
We stayed at Playa Club for 2 weeks. Although the complex is well presented externally our appartment was below "HOSTEL" standard. There was mould around tiles in the bathroom, a constant smell of stagnent water, the main door was off square so it scraped along the tiles when opened or closed. The bedroom door panels were broken from presumibly someone trying to gain entry to the locked room, and of course the overgrown cockroaches, and also cats roaming the complex. THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING, but there are fans for hire at 1.50 e per day. Stay away from appts 152 & 153, their location is beside a passageway to the garden appts, so there is a constant flow of people coming and going all the time resulting in a lot of noise. While staying there a group of 8 young people arrived and their behaviour was terrible especially upon returning from discos anytime between 5.30/7.30 in the morning when they then ran amuck through the complex. Despite many complaints from numerous guests to the centre management it took 5/6 days before any action was taken. So we all had many a sleepless night. The complex offers no entertainment of any description and its tiny bar closes around 12.00, however it is normally empty anyway. The location of the complex is excellent, about 50 yards off the main street, and is surrounded by excellent restaurants, even the fast food joint GOOFEY BURGER, was good. A trip to the south of the island took in the volcanos and is well worth taking. We used a company called Last Minute excursions and they were excellant, and much cheaper than going through your rep/ travel company. We had a great holiday overall and will return to Lanzarote but NOT TO PLAYA CLUB.
Superb!
Second year running we stayed at the Playa Club. For a fairly cheap package holiday its excellent value for money! Staff are always very friendly and very helpfull. Rooms are lovely with seperate bedroom and excellent kitchen facilities. Pool area is great and the pool bar is really nice if you want a few beers by the pool. Get there early tho as all the germans hog the sun loungers with there towles! throw them off!! ha ha. Salleem who runs the pool bar is a really nice man and will make you feel welcome. Resort is great as i went with my girlfriend and we are a young couple so enjoyed the night life plus there are loads of good restaurants wich i like very much. Go to ricks bar, its good fun!! all in all an excellent holiday! will probably go back a third time!
Very friendly staff
Start of visit 12th February 2006 We stayed at the Playa Club Apartments for a week; the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool and garden areas were kept spotless. Our apartment, although basic was quite adequate and comfortable and cleaned on a regular basis. Nice touch of a bottle of wine for us on arrival. A Netto supermarket can be accessed via the pool area, just ask in reception for a card which opens the door. Plenty of bars and places to eat out, we particulary liked Puerto Bahia, which is at the harbour. The apartments are situated just off the main road, we didn't encounter any noise from the clubs, bars, restaurants etc. at night. On the downside, the bar promoters do get a bit annoying when you're out for a stroll but they can also be amusing. Trips to Timanfaya National Park, Los Hervideros,El Golfo and Jameos del Agua well worth a visit.
Playa Club good
We recently stayed at the Playa Club apartments in Lanzarote. It was our first "sun" holiday and we didn't get much sun but the hotel was very clean and right in the middle of everything. It is just off the main street and a short walk down to the big beach. The pool is a good size and there is an inexpensive food shop just behind the complex. Our only complaint is that they do not have double beds, but this appears to be the norm for "continental" Europe. Even the four star hotel down the road has two single beds shoved together. Anyhow, if we head back again we'll certainly stay here and eat at the Brassiere (sp?) on the main street. Several people recommended Il Tomatoe. It was horrible. Service was snarly, food average and price expensive. Instead hit the tapas bar down the hill instead- bogata I think was the name.
