Islantilla Golf Resort Hotel

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful week at this hotel 10/8/06 , the hotel is surrounded by a 27 hole golf course of huge proportions and is very peaceful, Islantilla resort is about half a mile away and the hotel runs a cute little train down to their own beach club every 20 mins it takes only 5 minutes to get there The hotel is about 14 years old and the rooms are a little dated but are clean and quite spacious, the spanish staff are excellent and like it when you try to speak a little spanish. We stayed here for a week mid-July. The weather was excellent and you didn't have to rush out to the pool at 9am to get a sunbed. You could wander out at 11am and still get a sunbed, people tended to sunbathe later and the swimming pool area was still very busy at 7/8pm. It only took 50mins to get there from Faro Airport (I think our taxi driver knew a shortcut!) The buffet food at breakfast and dinner was excellent with a good choice. Location Located about 1hour from Faro airport or 1 hour 45 minutes from Seville. Main E-1 A44 motorway from both airports will bring you to within 10 miles of resort. I would definately recommend this hotel. First of all, my partner and I don't play golf, but we had a great time. All the hotels areas are very clean, with modern, comfortable seating areas. You will be surprised when you walk in the lobby, how many couches there are!! We had a junior suite, which as someone mentioned before, was a very large room, with two beds together (the continents' favourite!) We had a view of the golf course. The hotel and the services were nice but not that wonderfull as all the other guests described. We had a junior-suite, it was indeed a rather large room with larger bathroom. Unfortunately there is no sea-view possible (we knew this at front) because the beach is indeed somewhat fare-away. My husband and I and two friends have just returned from a week playing golf at the Islantilla Golf Resort. The hotel was of a very high standard, the rooms were big and very, very clean. We had half board and the food was really good. There was so much choice in the evening that it was hard to choose what to have. My wife and I spent a week in early September at this golf resort hotel. The weather, and in particular the warmth and duration of the September sun, in that part of southern Spain was the driver behind the holiday. The hotel met all our needs: spacious rooms with satellite TV, mini bar, safety deposit box, A/C and balcony (reasonable views all round regardless of your room). We stumbled on this hotel a few years ago, find it wonderfully relaxing, we swim & sun ourselves - it has great rooms, & relaxing buffet food - do go to the beach club, swim & eat there - a hire car is useful, go to Tavira (wonderful town, great food) - we also take the train from Tavira (park in the Lidle shop next to the stn for free at Tavira) & go to Faro, this avoids parking hassle in Faro - there are other great little towns in easy driving distance on Costa de Luz / Portugal...it may seem odd to go to what is a predominantly a... more

The golf course was surrounded by Villas at extremely close proximity, so that shots would be endangering property. All levels of players using the course were commenting on how many balls were lost because the fairways were narrow and embarrassed by how many shots were hitting the surrounding housing. The large estate surrounding the resort was still being built in many areas. We stayed in this hotel on June 2004 for 4 days. It is a lovely hotel, very nicely decorated with friendly personnel. We took half-pension and although it was a buffet restaurant which usually disappoints, I have to say that we enjoyed the food very much. I would receommend this hotel. However, those of you who are looking for "action", there is none in this area. Pure relaxation and slow pace atmosphere.
