We were sold this holiday by...
5 / 10
Aug 2007, Ms L Gaffney

We were sold this holiday by Scottravel who told us it was for families, had entertainment by the pool every day, disco every night for the children, free air conditioning and free safety deposit box.
We were also told that there was maid service every day. All of this was untrue.
On arrival we were asked for 60 lira for the safe and 150 for the air conditioning. The air conditioning is a waste of money as it only works now and again. The maid comes every day but only to empty the bin and leave ONE toilet roll per day!! I had to ask on several occasions for more and had to ask to have the bed sheets changed and for clean towels.
The disco is on every night but does not start till 12 pm so it not for young children.
The accommodation was basic, rooms not very big, cooking facilities a disgrace so if you like to eat breakfast or lunch in your room you will find it a struggle to make something substantial. Snacks at the hotel are very good though and the pizzas are excellent and very cheap.
Our first night there was like being in a war zone as the Icelanders were allowed to run amok all night, running through corridors, screaming, banging doors. The staff even opened the bar for them at all hours of the night.
This continued the next night, then they left, we had one quiet night, then another crowd of Icelanders moved in. Hell over again. One morning at breakfast we had to endure 4 of them, really drunk, throwing chairs around, shouting rolling about on the floor.
Complaint after complaint by us and dozens of other families and still nothing was done. Management didn’t seem to care.
The pools were clean but too many beds were crammed in at the pools so it was very crowded.
This was our first time in Marmaris and as we thought it would be purpose built. Not a patch on Bodrum so will be going back to Bodrum next year.
The staff in all the restaurants are very friendly and entertaining. Best meal we had was in Anastasia directly across from the Club Ilayda, but the food is really excellent in all the restaurants. Look out for the ones that give free breakfast if you eat there at night!
Best exchange rate - go to Uncle Johns, across the road from Club Ilayda and you don’t need to keep taking your passport every time.
Overall the holiday was great, great weather, great food, met some lovely families but very disappointed with the accommodation. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Absolutely disgusted with the...

Aug 2007, Mrs S Moss

Absolutely disgusted with the accommodation. Rooms were filthy, run down, inadequate cooking facilities, nails sticking out of door frames, curtain poles hanging off the wall, door handles falling off, rotten bed frame, the TV didn’t work, the maids never cleaned properly(upon arrival 4 maids sat on our bed having a smoke!) I really could go on forever.
However, if you can manage to live in squalor for 2 weeks, the pool was quite nice, cleaned daily with comfortable sun beds and the staff were polite.
Marmaris is a nice place although you need to be a hardened sun worshipper to tolerate the extreme heat of 55 degrees during the day and at least 30 degrees in the evening.
A visit to Flares bar/restaurant is a must, David and all his staff are great, especially Patrick who is adorable.
Would defiantly go back to Marmaris but would not step foot anywhere near club Ilayda!

I will try to get straight to the...

Aug 2007, Mr M Waterson

I will try to get straight to the point.1st week was good, people were nice then a large group of students from Iceland arrived. Welcome to hell!
As soon as they arrived our holiday, along with many other families, was ruined. Night after night after returning from bar street, they would party into 6/7 am.
Complaint after complaint was made to the manager who said he would look into it. Nothing done. Still they would party, jump from room to room, shout and bang doors till 7am.
I tried to reason with some of them, but they said they too were on holiday. Fair point I suppose, but they should never have been mixed in with families, so back to the manager.
Once again we are told they would be thrown out if it continued. Heard that before. Same story when they come back from bar street, party till 7am.by this time most families had had enough, and when even one family moved out, they put another student into their room.
I had their noise for 7 days, but to me the manager did absolutely nothing, and he was the one who should have sorted it straight away. I know for a fact that at least a dozen families have vowed to never to return to that hotel and for 4stars you are having a laugh.

On arriving at this supposed 4 star...
1 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss D MCGRATH

On arriving at this supposed 4 star accommodation I soon realised that it was nothing less than a two star.
The first room I was allocated was a studio with no air conditioning working, the second was over a main road (building two as I later found out was the name of this particular part of the apartments) the room when refused to live in it was then given out as staff quarters, this says it all really.
Another four rooms later and I was settled, well I thought I was but was so tired I had no choice.
The drain in the balcony was overflowing on a daily basis, there were cats feeding from their mother in my balcony in fact the place was overrun with cats. The room itself was filthy and overrun with ants and after complaining about this still nothing was done. The air-conditioning was not working properly causing myself and my family to arrive back home ill with bad coughs and flu like symptoms which caused myself and my husband to be off work.
I had to resort to stealing sheets and towels from the store room next door because of the lack of service expected of a four star accommodation. The toilet was never cleaned nor the balcony which by the end of the week was smelling foul due to cats and the drain system.
Also the hose for the air-conditioning had been leaking most of the time so the balcony was inhabitable. Can you imagine going on holiday and not being able to use your balcony because it was so disgusting.
This was a holiday from hell in many ways, the staff were not at all friendly in fact to be honest I can’t even remember one name from club Ilayda, the manager hung about every day making people feel uncomfortable and the actual reception area was so uncomfortable to be in because of no air-conditioning I actually found myself walking round the pool to go out in the evening.
Oh and the pool, not bad although people were leaving towels out all night therefore no beds were available at any time and nothing was done about this. This was just the way things were at club Ilayda.
Later in my holiday I was to find a smaller pool round the back of the apartments which was ok but overrun by Turkish people and their children. I normally wouldn’t have minded but these were the children of people who worked here, it was a sham.
The board outside advertised sauna, fitness room, children’s play area etc but there was none of this, even the information in the brochure was misleading.
I had the good fortune to visit a place across the road called club Anastasia which was a four star this proving that Ilayda was most definitely not. This was one of the worst holidays I have ever experienced thanks to scot travel and I used them last year and everything was ok but this year my illusions were shattered.
I was promised a four star and in return got a two star, this is wholly unacceptable and I have decided that I will never use this company again nor will I will be recommending them.
I will in fact be making people aware of them to the best of my abilities.

Just home from an enjoyable two weeks...

Just home from an enjoyable two weeks at these apartments. Good location, ten minute walk to beach, not too noisy but plenty round about.
Several supermarkets, many restaurants, mini golf, and trampolines in vicinity. Kid’s loved main swimming pool with brilliant water slide, Mamett, the hairdresser/tattooist is very good with cheap prices.
Would highly recommend booking your trips from Uncle John and Nico straight across the road and also changing currency here as their prices can't be beat and they are lovely people. (jeep safari is a must!).
Just one word of warning, make sure your room is in main building and not smaller one across the road as it is very shabby and needs upgraded, we asked to be moved with no problem.

This was our first ever visit to...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr I Bell

This was our first ever visit to Turkey as a family, which included my wife, my 14 year old son and myself. I shall break my opinion of our holiday into sections.
CLUB ILAYADA; A basic and simple self catering establishment, with 2 pools, a waterslide, 2 Bars and a Dining Area, within the Bar and nightly Entertainment.
There is also a Pets Corner (not a mini zoo as advertised),Internet Room, Pool Table and Shop/Jeweller/Hairdresser/Swing Area and Massage Room.
The Apartments were basic but clean, although the cooking facilities were not very good. They were reasonably sized, although 4 Adults sharing would struggle. The Cleaners were regular and towels were changed every day or two.
The staff were approachable and friendly, which was appreciated. The Entertainment was repeated each week and was not the greatest, I have to say. Michael Jackson Show lasted about 20-30 minutes and was worth watching and the Hip-Hop Show was of a similar timescale but the dancing was fantastic.
At the end of both shows, the Entertainers go round the Guests with a hat for donations..!
On other nights, there was Karaoke with Erica, which was a bit of a damp squib and in my own opinion, Karaoke is now well past its sell bye date and only used by 8-12 year olds or Adults with a little too much to drink.
The Club Ilayda is a friendly, well run establishment and would, again in my opinion, suit Families with pre-teenage children or elderly Guests.
DINING OUT; we did eat at the Apartments but not very often. We found a fantastic dining place just down the road called ANFIS. The staff there were brilliant, as was the food.
If you buy an Evening Meal, you get a free English breakfast the next morning! For example- Bone Steak, Chips, Mushrooms, and Veg cost £7.50 and you got a Full English the next morning free and the food was delicious.
MONEY EXCHANGE/TRIPS; Instead of exchanging money in the Apartments, just cross the road to Uncle John’s and you will get a much better rate for your £s or Travellers Cheques. We also booked a couple of trips through Uncle John (Turkish bath, Lazy Day Cruise) and they were great and much cheaper than through the Scot Travel rep.
Through our rep, we booked the Dalyan Trip on the last day before returning to Scotland. In hindsight, we would have preferred staying in Marmaris but don’t let that put you off, as that is only my opinion.
The Boat Trip was nice but we had less than an hour on Turtle Beach and we wanted to spend longer there. Dalyan is much quieter than Marmaris but on ordering our meal from a nearby eatery, it took 50 minutes to arrive in front of us..!
Your Evening Meal is included in the price of the trip but we wanted something more personal, on our last night in Turkey.
TURKEY IN GENERAL; As I stated at the start, this was our first time in Turkey and although the holiday was enjoyable, we as a family prefer mainland Spain or Ibiza.
The weather was fantastic and really hot everyday but the Entertainment was not too good, and the constant hassle we got from the various Restaurants and Shopkeepers, was over bearing in the heat.
Although I would not rule out going back to Turkey again, it is a poor substitute for Espana. Great bargains to be had, if you are willing to buy fake clothes but I believe we have had better value for money, by holidaying in Spain.

One of the best holidays I’ve been...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss Sj McDermott

One of the best holidays I’ve been on. Went with my mum dad and younger brother and sister. Made loads if friends
Great nights out. Boat trips were a bit boring [not recommended for kids age 6-16].
Water Park is very good. Good family day out. Although they take any food that was not purchased in the water park from you but you get it back as you leave. Quite expensive for drinks etc.
The staff at club Ilayda are amazing especially Ali. He gets involved with everyone, all the staff at the bar are a laugh. They even join you in the pool, or sometimes they even get chucked in.
The water slide is only open till 5pm beware of the wee guy that runs the slide. He’s very strict and shouts a lot at the kids but no one actually listened to him.
Anyway, the nightlife at club Ilayda is good karaoke's, Turkish nights, discos, live football coverage. Which we were pleased about as it was the world cup final.
The rooms were clean but very basic [hairdryer included]. Lots to do - games room [snooker pool video games internet]. Slide. Children’s pool. Restaurant. The wee shop across the road was also very good. Especially for ice lollies as they were 3x cheaper than club Ilayda.
There are a vary of restaurants in Marmaris. We found the 'Anfi' very enjoyable it’s only a two minute walk from club Ilayda. The staff are all amazing.
Turkish waiters seem to be after the girls so watch out! My mum was very protective when we were there but she was right.
Overall an amazing holiday. Would love to go back.

Jun 2007, Ms S  Oneill

I found Club Ilyda to be very hospitable, the bar staff and waiters were excellent could not do enough to make our stay a good one.
The only thing I would say that they could improve would be the cooking facilities and equipment that they supply, I was disappointed in the air-conditioning, - I was charged 100 lira for ten days of which it only worked for 3 days - when I asked for a refund I got no reply so I gave up.
Entertainment was paid for by the holiday makers, as the acts came round with a hat so people felt obliged to put money in.
Me and my family would go back as we would be more prepared next time and we made some good friends in the staff.

It was a great holiday. The staff were friendly. The hotel itself is nicely located, a short walk from the beach. 2 great pools. A super market was over the road for supplies.

Beware if you are out of season,...
7 / 10
May 2007, Mrs S Bradshaw

Beware if you are out of season, anytime other than May - Sep you will not stay at the hotel advertised everywhere. You will however stay in the much smaller Club Ilayda Marmaris, the sister to the much larger one advertised.
However saying that we found the accommodation clean even though a little scruffy. The staff were all very helpful especially Eddie who makes a mean vodka and red bull.
We loved Marmaris so much so that we are going back in October but staying across the road this time as the apartments seemed so much nicer and actually cheaper.
If you want a really nice meal out try the Eden restaurant along the front and if you have children ask Alex to show his magic tricks he truly was great and kept myself and my 6 year old son James amused and bewildered for hours, the food was second to none.
The excursions that we booked at the top of the road (out of hotel and turn right) run by Carlos and Chris were well worth the money and we all really enjoyed them, Carlos and Chris gave us good deals on the Turkish bath (£10.00 each) for 2.5 hours of pampering (better massage than Ragdale Hall and all others I’ve ever had).
The jeep safari, £10.00 each for 9 hours of fun was fantastic, but be warned take some extra clothing with you as you will get wet. Do go to Chris to book your excursions as he gave us the best deals and was extremely helpful, he will make sure everything runs smoothly for you.
Another lovely little restaurant is Captain’s Cabin up by the marine, its well worth the money and is set aside to give a lovely holiday feeling.
The little restaurant across the road to the club Ilayda is owned by a Turkish guy and his English wife, they are a lovely couple and the food is excellent and good value, so give them a try and they are always there with a friendly wave, hope this is of help to anyone.

Well, what can we say, 10 out of 10!...
10 / 10
Sep 2006, Mr K & M Lester & Tann

Well, what can we say, 10 out of 10! This place made our holiday, from the laughs up in the rooms, to chillaxin by the pool, to the food from the bar, and the services from the bar staff. Clean rooms, new sheets every other day along with towels. Room cleaned everyday.
The bar staff were quality, a good laugh, and in the socialised on their breaks in the pool. Top blokes, and even funnier in the evenings with a few drinks.
Nightlife around Marmaris is very good, from the restaurants on the front, with amazing views from the terraces overlooking the sea, to bar street for the more lively parts of town. If you fail to find a decent bar, then you are either blind or you have gone to the complete wrong place for your vacation.
Also nearby is a water park which is good fun for all, the harbour for boat trips which are extremely relaxing and worthwhile, and the Daylan boat trip, stopping at turtle beach is another must do!
Go to Turkey, you will not regret it!
