Colon Guanahani Hotel

In other hands this hotel would be very ordinary. It's not the swankiest place we've ever stayed, nor the most modern. It's "English-as-a-second-language" cabaret some nights would have had even Simon Cowell dashing for the exit. And by last October, it was about time some-one dug out the paint and polyfilla for a spot of touching up. Colon Guanahani, Adeje, Costa De Adeje, Tenerife Date October 2007 We have just returned from a week's break. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We changed room as we were originally located overlooking a busy main road. After looking at several bedrooms found the ideal location - overlooking the pool on the 4th floor. I am very surprised no one has mentioned the traffic and the busy roads around this hotel. No where in the brochures or on the web site are they mentioned. We where told, sea view, pool view or garden view. Sea view if you stood on the roof, pool view if you where lucky. Garden - well yes, just at the side of the road! Also money went missing from the room but the guy on reception was not interested in our coins as 2 handbags had gone missing from a room the previous day. My husband and I stayed at this hotel last year and were so impressed by the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff thta we decided to stay again this year and take with us our grown up children, their partners and our 2 year old grandson. Once again we were not let down and the hotel exceeded our expectations. All the family loved the variety of the food and the restaurant staff were extremely helpfull bearing in mind we had a 2 year old toddler with us. Have just come home from a week in the Colon Guanahani (pronounced HUAN-A-HANI) and I must say it was very enjoyable. I have to agree with most of the above comments e.g. more an older crowd, buffet breakfast very good, staff very helpful,etc. We only stayed on a B&B basis and cannot comment on dinner but the poolside snack bar was much superior to what you would expect in that location. My mother and I took my 15 month old daughter to this hotel. At first, I thought it was 'average' but the hotel grew on me more and more as the week progressed. Now I would go back again. It's given me the confidence to take my young daughter abroad. For anyone with young children, it's a great place to go. All the rooms are near the restaurant, so you can take the baby monitor and be within hearing distance. Stayed for 10 nights at this hotel in September 2006. On first arriving in the reception area I wasn't as impressed as some of the 4* hotels I have stayed in but then on reflexion it was quite nice. The hotel room was of a very high standard, quite large with all usual amenities. Furniture of a very good quality. Room kept lovely and clean. Not quite as impressed as previous reviewers. Hotel is officially rated as a 4 star I believe - in our opinion it is good 3 star. We stayed for 4 nights on a halfboard basis. On the plus side the room was spacious & clean, the staff very helpful and it is generally a nice hotel in a good location. On the minus side we found the evening buffet pretty uninspiring & the dining room (if the ouside terrace is full) to be an echoy cold feeling place with little atmosphere. I just got back from a one week stay in Tenerife. We stayed at the excellent Colon Guanahani which is located by Playa Adeje. Going to Tenerife during the winter, we decided to go to the South of the island because it's much warmer and sunnier there. It was the right choice (although some areas and hotels in the North look really nice, too). We rented a car and drove to Puerto de la Cruze and to the North coast three times. Having returned to the Colon Guanahani for the second time we really wasnt disappointed. This hotel is lovely. We stayed in a suite because it was my husbands 50th Birthday. The staff and management were excellent they even baked him a cake, they had put balloons in the room. The food is excellent the atmosphere is so relaxed. I recommend this hotel. Everything is first class here. I will definately be returning next year
