We stayed half board and had a wonderful time. The staff are very friendly, food was good with evening entertainment. Three pools to choose from and a shuttle service to local town and beach. Would recommend.

We love Riverside
We have been going to Riverside for over ten years. It is the most wonderful place for a completely relaxing holiday. Riverside is our second home; we are sure of a wonderful welcome being looked after by the family and friendly staff. The villas are clean and spacious and although they may be a bit short of cutlery and crockery you can always ask for more. The reception staff are only too pleased to be of every assistance and one night in particular when I needed an emergency doctor and a trip to hospital I could not have wished for any better. They were superb. We usually go bed a breakfast. Breakfast offers a range of well-prepared food and plenty of it; you can pay extra if you need the full English. Lunch at the Pool Bar, available most of the day, and in the evening, well. We have had some really good evenings at BBQ’s and Cyprus Nights and found them exceptionally good value for money. Turkish visitors have provided terrific entertainment on many a Saturday night. If you fancy a change try one of the local restaurants, there are several within walking distance. The courtesy bus will take you to the beach or into Kyrenia giving you time to do a bit of shopping, see the castle and have a long cold beer by the harbour. You can spend a lazy day by the pool or go on one of the many trips organised by tour operators. Horse riding can be arranged or the Jeep Safari is a good day out for those with the energy to do it. Hire a car for a few days at very reasonable cost and visit some of those very special places that only North Cyprus can offer, the beautiful beaches of the Pan Handle, the wonderful historical sites or go shopping in Nicosia. What more can you ask for? 4 star every time We love it. Robbie & Avis
Go to this holiday village
2004 was my first experience of North cyprus I had stayed in southern cyprus numerous times before and found it lovely dependant on what you pay. Staying here was a really enjoyable experience I came over with four large family groups so in total we had accomodation varying from large villas to small S/C apartments and all of us declared how much we had enjoyed ourselves. The staff are extremely friendly if you have a problem then speak to them and they will attempt to sort it out. Hiring of cars is easy and not expensive getting into kyrenia is great but you are tied to the holiday village return bus time but 10 out and 3 return gives you plenty of time in town. I will definitely return and advise others to do so. I have read the other reveiws and can only say the people that had given negative reports must have either paid for S/C prices and expected five star treatment. or been very unhelpful/obnoxious to the staff even then the staff undertake a lot of other duties without complaining they are stars. They try and make everyone feel at home and part of the riverside family when you are on holiday.
A Great All-Rounder
I am not one usually given to writing accounts of holiday experiences but I have just read a very negative report on the Riverside Holiday Village in Alsancak, Northern Cyprus, and feel that a huge injustice has been done to this family run holiday village. To give this holiday complex only a one-star traveller rating is -- in my opinion -- ludicrous given all the facilities that are on offer there like: gymnasium, sauna, massage parlour, 2 large outdoor pools and 1 heated indoor pool (for winter), small shop, tennis court, horse riding, bars and restaurants, night patrol security, etc.,etc., coupled with the wonderful well kept gardens with the various fruit trees (early spring blossom is a picture to behold), large pond with fountain, goldfish and terrapins. My wife and I have stayed at this complex many times (both during the summer and winter) and would not go anywhere else because of the range of facilities, good accommodation, good food and excellent waiter and waitress service (no need to get off of that sunbed during those lazy summer days by the pool). My only regret was the year I tried to book late and was told that Riverside was full and was moved a mile down the road to another hotel by my holiday company -- it didn't stop us from going along to their 'Turkish Evening by the Pool' (fabulous belly-dancer!) and then meeting up with old friends we had met on previous occasions at the complex's Ranch Bar, with its large elevated patio area, until the early hours! I have used two holiday companies in the past -- Green Island Holidays and Cyprus Paradise Holidays. Both offer excellent packages to the Riverside. If, on the other hand, I wished to have stayed at a hotel like the Jasmine Court I would have had to pay in excess of £100 per person extra for the same period of time. Reception is the hub of the complex and should you have any problem go along there, they are very nice people that man the desk, they will be able to sort out any problem for you promptly. Safe-deposit boxes are available here for your valuables. Should you need a hire car, Riverside have an extensive fleet of well maintained cars for you, book at Reception. You can also book various organised trips from here or wait for their own bus to take you into town or the beach. Although I am in my sixty's now, one trip I can thoroughly recommend for both old and young alike, and which can be organised through Reception, is the Off-road Jeep Safari. Take your camera as the views from the tops of the mountains are spectacular from the open-top Land Rovers. A fabulous day out 'off-roading' with a visit to the infamous 'Blue House' (you will need your passport to get in here') ending with a dip in the 'Med' and a nice cool drink before returning to base. Debbie of Sussex -- I can thoroughly endorse your report and highly recommend the Riverside Holiday Village for families, couples or singles ... in fact, a great all-rounder.
Our Second Home ...... Home From Home!!!!!!!
I have just recently returned from Northern Cyprus and were i have stayed for the last 16 years in succession at the Riverside Holiday Village in Alsancak. I feel i have to put a piece on this site to highly recomend this wonderful holiday destination, it has been our family second home. My children have grown up there and made many Turkish friends though out the years. The complex has everything for Young and old alike and ıs particularly appealing for couples it is ideal as the individual villas are comfortable and are sutiable all year roundthe large swimming pool is ideal to relax around with views of the mountains and very peaceful ideal to relax around with views of the mountains and very peaceful ideal for reading. There are many different walks around the area for exploring the real Cyprus life. For Failies with young families there is a purpose built pool with slides etc set aside from the large pool. Weekly entertainment is laid on in the main season such as the very popular Turkish Nights with wonderful buffets set around the pool and of course the enticing Turkish belly dancer! or if you choose a quit drink on the large terrace at the Ranch Bar looking up at the mountains or down towards the sea. The well maintained gardens are lots of beautiful scents and intoxicating smell of jasmine, grapes, oranges, lemons, fıgs and pomegranıtes all available for you to pick fresh from the trees! As the complex is family run there is total comitment from each and memeber to ensure the guests are well looked after. You will never meet more engagıng and friendly staff who soon learn your names and become your friends by the end of your holiday, hence the reason why guests return year upon year. Overall i can not recomend the Riverside highly enough the perfect place to unwind have every need catered for and a base to explore this beautiful işland the Jewel of the Mediteranean!!!!!!! Thank you for a Brilliant Holiday again we will be back Julia and family
Would not recommend this to anyone
The Riverside Holiday Village was a great disappointment to our familiy. It was our 2nd visit to Northern Cyprus, our first being a wonderful holiday in Jasmine Court. We felt that the brochure we had booked from had grossely misrepresented the holiday village, which fell well below the standards that we would expect from a 4* hotel. General impression on arrival was very poor. We arrived at around 11pm to be shown our "luxury villa". We had been lead to believe that it had been recently redecorated. It was poorly lit and the decoration was maybe 20 years old with a touch of paint a few years ago. The kitchen units were shabby and contained chipped cups and saucers. There was certainly not enough utensils provided for actually cooking for yourself. Off the kitchen was a living area with old tatty sofas. Leading from it was a sliding door with stone steps to a toilet and sink - a bit creepy. Up a stone flight of stairs were two very sparse bedrooms. The bedlinnen was hard the sheets were not big enough to cover the mattress. The air conditioning unit worked, despite being old and noisy. Shower room very small with dripping tap. The Ranch Bar was only the only place open on our arrival. It was not very inviting - old, worn out furniture inside and outside a large expanse of concreate with lots of old metal tables and chairs. There were also two dogs roaming around freely. (This was our one and only visit to the Ranch Bar) We were booked on a Half Board Basis but beware of the hidden extras. At breakfast you must pay extra for water and cooked breakfasts. Good selection of Mezzes but a very limited choice of main dish for the evening meal. We all lost a lot of weight on this holiday! Health and Safety concerns - the indoor swimming pool was drained of water but still accessable to the public. I was very concerned about this having read in the newspapers of people falling into unfilled pools. We mentioned this to Reception, to which we where told that it was locked. We checked throughout our two week holiday and found it accessable every day. Our children found the flume ride to be great fun but we were concerned to see how much the flume moved as children went down it. Entertainment - tried hard but variety poor. The only entertainment was a male singer and a belly dancer. Although the belly dancer was excellent there are only so many times that you want to see the same act. The pool without the flumes was very pleasant but there were too many day visitors using the facilities. We did not like the dogs wandering around the pool. Midway through our holiday we were moved to one of the few newly built villas. This was like staying at a different "hotel". Very nicely decorated, modern and what would have expected all along. We made the most of our holiday despite the problems but would not recommend this to anyone. We would return to Northern Cyprus but not to the Riverside.
Good for Famailies, but look out for dodgy rooms
My family and I visited in Aug 06, we personally had an excellent time. However, we were aware of a large number of complaints about the rooms. We stayed in a two bed apart (room 114) which was at the top of the complex near the restaurant. It was new, clean and basic, but was everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and the kids loved the pool. The poolside bar was a bit expensive, but there are a few restaurants nearby which were very good (the farm house, and one on the left just after you turn off the main road of note). There is a free bus to Sun Set beach, collect in am drop back in the pm. This place is friendly and run by a Brit, but is a bit 'Magaluf'ish'. Escapade beach is superb and you can feel like you are in St Tropez. You have to pay, but well worth the money. There are loads of ruins on the Island which are worth seeing, particularly Salamis and it is well worth a trip out to the monastery on the Kapas Pennisular. Leave early and visit big beach on the way back....wow! Huge beautiful empty beach and really warm sea. As others have said to get the most out of the island you need a car. Head North and South and up into the mountains, nowhere is too far and a lot can be done. On a two week trip we went everywhere, but also had loads of time slobbing by the pool or at a beach. This is best for families, many UK Cypriot families seem stay here when visiting relatives, soo I would think that is a tip. Be warned of credit card charges by the hotel, but cash can be obtained and better exchange rates at local banks on the main road. Cypriot night was good value for money, the pool BBQ not so. Turtle beach is a must. Its about 1/2hr north of Kyrenia past the power station (sounds great). Watching the turles hatch gives you the life's not so bad feeling until you hear that only 1 in 1500 makes it back to hatch. I think you need to be at the Turtle Project Hut for either 5 or 5-30 and they will guide you to any nests which will be hatched. On the downside, their is a hell of a lot of development going on and there seems to be little in the way of sensible controls. Go before it's ruined! N.Cyprus is lovely.
It was okay
We stayed in a self catering superior villa. It was not superior at all, there were not enough utensils and crockery for 4 people. the view was mediocre. the decor was rubbish. The bathroom was tiny. The daily towel change was good although rather excessive. The whole complex received English as well as Turkish guests which was a nice mix. There was aplace to hire cars and the complex provides free buses at set times into Kyrenia. There are 2 large pools, one with slides which was fun for the kids. The indoor pool was out of action. The pool bar, restaurant, market and Ranch bar were a rip off. we encountered alot of people who were staying elsewhere coming to use the facilities, which is what we will do next time. There was a bar called friends bar a short walk up the road which was fantastic in its setting, freindliness and prices. You can book directly with the holiday village you can book the scheduled flights separately with KTHY or turkish airlines you save alot of money than if you go with a travel company. This year there is a slight glut in tourism, which is a shame as it is such a wonderful "country". The glut is possibly due to peoples fears of middle east conflicts as it is close to syria and israel. This should not deter you. This was our second visit to North Cyprus . We will visit again but not to Riverside, but we will come along to use the swimming pools.
Pool Nightmare!
This Hotel has a number of slides in their Aqua pool area. My son jumped into the swimming pool and was sucked to the side of the pool, under water, by the water filter. He was unable to free himself and I had to pull him free. He was left with at least a dozen bruises on his back from the force of the suction. He was very shaken but, as I was close by, luckily did not swallow any water. The hotel staff were apologetic but did not appear to take any action. We left the hotel the same day.
Need to hire a car!!!
Reception had no record of my booking, but managed to find me accomodation for the night. Offered me alternative villa the next day which was far superior. Not the fault of Anatolian Sky!! Pool and surrounding area was excellent, but beware of buying refreshments there, or you could have a large bill to pay on your departure. There are some quite nice restaurants within reasonable walking distance offering good food and very reasonably priced. Went to the Veranda restaurant one evening and was surprised to see no local people eating there and their prices were approx 20% higher than most other establishments. There is a small shop on site, but otherwise, the nearest supermarket (Atakaraa) is approx 1mile away and seems longer in the heat out there. Riverside does run a minibus into Kyrenia, which leaves at 10.30am and returns at 3pm, but if you want to come back earlier, there are numerous buses, but again you're faced with a long walk. Went on the boat trip and the tripto the Karpaz peninsula and was extrmely disappointed in the latter - also it was a very long day, as we were the first to picked up and the last to be dropped off. I may well go back, but would like to try other accomodation first.
Very relaxing holiday
We ( 2 adults, 2 teenagers) had a very nice time here. Weather baking hot, staff friendly etc. We had bed and breakfast which we would recommend. Transfers to and from hotel very efficient. The food on site is not good - plenty to choose from off site. We had a few problems with one of the air con units in the villa, (but they were very helpful and quick to rectify it) and the management gave us a free meal at the hotel. Not so good. We hired a car from the hotel before we arrived and got a reduction because I quoted other hire companies (£15 per day with air conditioning was good and the car was roomy - Nissan Sunny). Olympic pool great, the aqua park is more for the under 10s. There were cats and kittens everywhere which we loved, but some may not. Take some extra cat food with you! Would certainly consider going again if and when appropriate. This website was very helpful to look at before we went. Thanks for that! Hope this is helpful to somebody.
