I read all the reviews and was wooried about this hotel. This hotel is not a luxury one, but the price is really fair. Rooms ok, food was absolutelly fantastic, delicious. Recepcionists, bartenders, cleaners... Everyone polite, nice, with a enormous smile in their faces. I had a very good time there and wish to return again.

Pleasantly Suprised
We went to the Kalithea Sun from 13th to 24th September 06 and were pleasantly suprised after having read some of the earlier reports on this site. Our accomodation was at the rear of the main Sun hotel building on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the gardens. This position was quiet and ideal for relaxing when in the room / balcony. The room was basic but clean and regularly serviced. All of the equipment - TV, fridge, hairdryer, shower worked well. The hotels main areas are nice and the pool / garden areas are loveley and well maintained. We were able to get a sunbed each day without getting up at the crack of dawn! The pool does get deep quite quickly so weak swimmers need to be aware of this. The food was Ok for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restuarant staff are friendly and the serveries were well stocked and presented. The staff at the poolside bar are particularly friendly and being all inclusive meant that refreshments were plentiful throughout the day. We liked the location of the Kalithea Sun, ideally situated for a relaxing holiday. There are some nice bars just down the road in the centre and the hotel is within easy reach of Rhodes Town and Faliraki. All in all we enjoyed our stay and felt that some of the comments that we had read seem quite unfair. We would return again ( at this time of year ) sometime in the future.
does what it says on the tin!
me and my partner stayed here on the all inclusive basis. we had a studio in the kalithea sky part of the hotel. the room was clean and airy and the cleaners came 6 out of the 7 days we stayed there. the hotel reception staff and bar staff were friendly and it had a nice atmosphere although we didnt stay in there much in the evening. the pool was nice and big but there was no lifeguard and the water did go very deep suddenly. there is however a small childrens pool as well. the snack bar was the only thing i wasnt too happy with, on the all inclusive option it states that you can get snacks between certain times but they were hardly ever there and when they was they were very poor - stale bread and leftovers from breakfast it seemed! the food in the restaurant was ok and drinks from the machine were fine if not a bit watery. on a whole i thought the hotel was nice if not a bit basic but it is only a 2.5* so i wasnt expecting 4* service!! we got a fantastic deal so we just used it as a base to explore the island. 'Mikes' bar across the road does some really nice cocktails. the kalithea sun and sky does exactly what it says on the tin!!!(or the brochure)
Don't Go Here !!!!
This was the worst place we have ever stayed in in Greece...We realised it was only a two star, so didn't expect much but the first room we had was in studio/apartment and was awful...cramped, dark & dingy, noisy (right next to main road)...The bathroom was disgusting....we complained and were moved, along with many other people who also complained, into the hotel itself, which was 100% improvement but still really basic...more like self catering accomodation...The food at breakfast was ok but the evening meal was dire...they did give you a choice but nothing apetising or cooked particularly well....Even the salad was soggy!! We weren't All Inclusive and really glad we weren't...They were restricted on when they could have drinks and snacks and how many drinks they could have...the drinks themselves were really cheap brands and after 11pm the all inclusive finished..... The only good things about the hotel were the friendly staff and the pool/gardens...which were well kept. Not a lot for kids to do and the resort itself was quiet...felt a bit out on a limb...only about 3 tavernas/bars to choose from....if you are going to go to Rhodes i would avoid here...You would be much better off in self catering accomodation!!
Basic poor quality hotel
After reading the reports on this site we were not expecting the Sun and Sky to be very good, but it was worse than our expectations. The only plus point was that it was cheap. We were offered a studio apartment which can only be described as a dirty hovel. We had to run the gauntlet of the spinklers in the morning to get into the main part of the hotel to use the dining room. After complaining to the hotel we were given 3 other rooms to look at which were no better, or even worse. Eventually the rep found us a room we could be happier in and make the most of the holiday. The hotel does not put air conditioning on until July, then you have to pay 6 Euros a night for the priviledge. Food was awful every day, with very little choice. You will be alright if you like jelly and ice cream for lunch every day. Rhodes is wonderful but the Kalithea Sun and Sky is definitely a place to avoid. In future I will check out this site before booking.
Pleasantly surprised
Booked this holiday as a cheap break in the sun and after reading the reviews we thought we were in for a miserable week but what the heck it had a pool and the weather was guaranteed. But what a surprise we really can't fault the holiday. We were given the opportunity to upgrade to all inclusive which we did at a very reasonable price, we certainly had our moneys worth. The staff were polite and helpful, the room albeit tired and in need of decorating was clean. Food was plentiful more than you can eat with 3 meals a day and morning and afternoon snacks. Good entertainment in the hotel 3 nights each week. The pool is excellent but watch your children most of it is very deep but they do have a childrens pool. You can sunbathe by the pool or in the lovely gardens and it's so quiet no loud music blaring just wonderful peacful relaxation. The poor reviews must be down to people having high expectations of what you get for your money we were more than happy and would definitely go back. If we have a niggle it's that the all inclusive finishes at 11pm after that you have to pay for your drinks and they do stop on time
never again
we arrived here in june and thought umm nice but then there was no air conditioning they said they woudl have it working at the end fo the week. u mm belting heat and no air con, also the food was dire, not all inclusive i have known before where its all inclusive all day and night no, this was set times disgusting for what you pay!!! so across the way to the bar we went most nights as the resort was a bit naf!!
Terrible...
Avoid this hotel at all costs! We stayed here for a week and were absolutely fed up by the end of it. The room bordered on acceptable, although cockroaches and lizards were spotted in our room. Housekeeping was not good - sheets changed once a week. Food - dire. The dining room was full of flies every meal time, making it impossible to eat without having to wave arms around, swatting insects every ten seconds. Salads, bread, milk and desserts were left uncovered most of the time, making the place an absolute haven for bacteria. We gave up eating here after two days for fear of contracting e-Coli or Salmonella. Staff were pretty nonchalant about our complaints, they shrugged it off as if it were normal to have dead flies in the morning coffee. The Sun & Sky is about ten minutes from a half decent beach. The best thing about this place is the road out of it.
basic greek hotel!
Just returned from this basic hotel which is not worthy of its 3 star status in the Olympic brochure. The resort consists of only a few bars/restaurants which you will need to supplement your menu/drinks at the hotel, and the beach is about a 10 minute walk but wouldnt bother , it's just dirty gravel - not a grain of sand in sight. The food was very disappointing as others have indicated breakfast is the best meal of the day with the occasional excellent evening meal - in fact the moussaka was excellent but there is a distinct lack of protein! Drinks at this all inclusive were very disappointing all local drinks were included as a special which the rep said she had managed to get for us but unless you like rocket fuel the only things worth drinking are the beer and wine which was OK. There are no bar facilities from breakfast until lunch time you can get bottled water and that is all.The bar wasnt even open ! The rooms were very dated and could have done with a total refit - I agree the maids did the absolute minimum and I left dirty glasses in the bathroom as a test and by the end of our week had colleced about 8 and not one was removed! Sheets were not changed until day before we were coming home and what linen there was, was in poor state of repair. Beds very low and very hard if you have mobility problems. The pool area however was lovely the gardens were beautiful, plenty of sunbeds but it was september. Take care with the pool - it is very deep but in parts starts shallow at about 1 meter and the slopes away very quickly to 8-9 feet deep - dangerous if you dive in as you could hit the shallower part.Definately not suitable for children and the baby pool was set inabout a meter deep as well but left half empty. Not accessible for small children at all. The rep was great and very helpful we had no complaints with Kate at all. Rhodes old town was fantastic and worth a visit Lindos a bit of a rip off! This hotel needs a sharp injection of money and customer care its a shame because the actual design etc was nice and the terrace area well maintained - however I will not be returning - ever!
Kalithea Sun, Hotel from Hell
The food is terrible, the staff are miserable, the rooms are clean, the pool area and gardens are very good and the hotel is in a quiet location, score 0-10
Very basic
Rhodes is a fantastic island, the people are very friendly and there are some lovely places to see. But for the Kalithea Sun & Sky I can’t say the same: It’s hard trying not to be negative about this hotel, the only thing I can say is that the weather was fabulous and we met some really great people but we wouldn’t go back there again. They had over booked so if they ask you if you want to move to another hotel say No. We agreed to move on the understanding we had the same facilities as the Kalithea but we found that this wasn’t so. We were all inclusive and the hotel we moved to wasn’t so it was a matter of sleeping there and coming up to the Kalithea for the all inclusive. We were going to ask to be moved back but they were so full up it was a waste of time. So we got used to walking from one hotel to the other every day which was up a bank and along another road it wasn’t close by. The beaches were 20 to 30 minutes away from the hotel and they weren’t up to much. The food wasn’t up to much and not always hot it sometimes felt like feeding time at the zoo every meal time. The reception staff were great if you need any help or advice just ask and its no trouble but I cannot say that about the bar and restaurant staff who could be down right rude. It was the first year for this hotel to do all inclusive and they basically couldn’t cope. Breakfast was ok especially if you like a baked bean which was on the menu every morning. When breakfast finished at 9.30 there was only drinking water available until 12.00. You then could get soft drinks or lager then at 3pm coffee and tea became available. Snacks and cakes included small pasties at 12.00 and then the cakes came out at 3pm with no variety at all. Ice creams were only given to children for children so the child would have to go and ask for one these finished at 5pm. Then the other bar would then open for lager, ouzo, local spirits and soft drinks. Cleanliness wasn’t a priority either we told the staff about seeing cockroaches in the restaurant area but they just shrugged there shoulders.
