This has to be the most beautiful holiday destination I have been to. Stunning views, easy access to superb beaches (via car or foot) which are exactly as pictured in the brochures i.e. white sand, warm clear blue water well-worth snorkelling in to see the underwater life, lovely quiet swimming pools, and excellent accommodation. The rental car pick-up at the airport (essential to the holiday) was really easy and the instructions to get to the resort were simple to follow and the journey was only about half an hour.
Porto Vecchio itself is a classy small town with gorgeous restaurants, although very pricey. The only downside to our holiday was, as the locals only speak French and my husband is very allergic to eggs, we couldn't partake of much of the restaurant food as we could not make his food requirements known to them! However, this meant that we were able to use the local supermarkets and local food and wine, which was very reasonably priced, easy to cook in the well-stocked kitchen at the apartment and made for very chilled out evenings on our balcony, watching the superb sunsets over the mountain opposite.
The staff at the hotel reception, who spoke only little English, were lovely and always as helpful as possible. My school-girl French was resurrected and my best friend was my French/English dictionary but this proved to be really good fun and not a problem. There was an English holiday rep however at the hotel, although he was only there a few days a week. He did leave his mobile number with us for emergencies.
The trips were fairly limited but the boat trip we went on was great although again the information broadcast over the speakers was in French!
I loved this holiday, as did my family. My two sons were in heaven at the beach and the swimming pool. They were old enough to play safely at both, but the beach particularly is suitable for small children.
Having written this review, I must get to the travel agents and book again!
