The Hotel facilities were very good with great food and good service. Many previous comments mention there were a lot of Germans, there were, but the experience we had here was nothing but pleasant. Don’t expect a lot of information in English despite there being a Thomson rep on site several times a week.
That is not a criticism, as she was very helpful, it is more a reflection of the balance of customers, few Brits in comparison.
Rooms are comfortable and of an adequate size. The pool is big enough and popular, the beach which is clean does have a lot of pebbles and sea shoes are required if you don’t want to have sore soles on your feet.
The evening entertainment is interesting, the local team murder Abba and Queen songs in German, but it can be amusing if you get in the swing. There is not a lot of night life outside the hotel in the surrounding area but a walk to the centre of Tropea will get some variety.
If you’re tempted to go to Sicily don’t do it on a weekend the traffic is murder.
Absolute must tries are the Pizza man, Barbecue and the A la Carte.
A great fun family holiday.

Stunning location, beautiful clean hotel with friendly helpful staff. Food is excellent, wide choice, healthy and delicious, wine also good - only down side is that the restaurant is sometimes more like a canteen at the busier times & the rule that 'men should wear long trousers in the restaurant' is not enforced. With it being such a lovely four star hotel I really think a dress code for evening time would be a good idea. Some were dressed up whilst the majority of others were in shorts, sleeveless vests, jeans etc. Pizza restaurant down by the beach was excellent.
Beach and pool were immaculately clean, life guards at both. Unfortunately no disability access as lots of steps, all around the hotel.
Great holiday, highly recommend!

Welcome to Germany....The Rocco Nettuno hotel is a fabulous hotel in a fabulous location, the views and scenery are amazing. A lift takes you from the hotel to the beach and despite the long wait for the lift it is well worth spending time on.
The beach has a fantastic pizza restaurant, you can watch your pizza be made in front of your very eyes...beware the queue though. I am quite a fan of Italian food and drink and was quite disappointed with the offerings. For example all of the beer on offer is German and the wine on offer...well quite frankly I would expect most real Italians to be embarrassed by its murky brown colour and acidic taste.
All signs and information appear in German...contact your holiday rep for English information. Also all poolside announcements are in German or French, so you may struggle to keep up with the entertainment team’s programme; not that you would really notice their presence. The entertainment team seem to half heartedly clap their hands around the swimming pool first thing in the morning whilst the German announcements are being made and then....well then they just sort of disappear....only being sighted now and again in their "team" T shirts.
The food on offer is of a good standard at this hotel...although again from the salami and strudel on offer you may detect a German bias. If you expected any baked beans with your breakfast think again. Bacon and egg are provided...but there is no brown sauce...be warned. Having said that however, I highly recommend food from the outdoor BBQ which is without doubt cooked to perfection.
To Sum up -Accommodation 10/10..Food..7/10..Drink..4/10.
The town of Tropea itself is fantastic...have a ride on the night train...try the cocktail bars and ice cream parlours...there are plenty of places to get a nice slice of Pizza too...enjoy Tropea..it is great.

Hotel and rooms were lovely and clean, the food was also very good and always plenty to choose from. Staff seemed friendly although there were not many that understood English very well as most of the guest were either German or Italian.
My only negative would be the lift to the beech was very small and in a cliff, if you don't like lifts you have a problem as the only other option down where about 100 steps cut out of the rock that was quite steep and hard going in the heat!
Other than that we had an excellent time and would go again!

The Rocca Nettuno is in a fantastic location on the edge of Tropea. It has its own section of beach, beautiful gardens and clean comfortable rooms.
The food at the hotel was absolutely superb, with so much choice each day.
There is a beach restaurant where you can choose to have lunch that cook fantastic pizzas.
We didn't have children with us, but it looked like the facilities for children were good.
My only minor criticism would be that all the activities organised by the animations team are in German, due to there being a high proportion of German guests there. I generally found the animation staff to be moody and not particularly helpful.

Sorry to be late in posting a review for this hotel. Only just found the site. Went late June early July 07. I cannot sing the praises of the rep too much. My wife and I really enjoyed this holiday. My wife more so after the experience of the Club MED P.O.W. Camp near Napithia. I don't hate the French just their idea of a holiday, it was that bad. Sorry about mentioning the Club Med, but I wanted to explain that we have been to the area before, and this property is probably the best.
Hotel is alright it is low rise buildings with great views of the sea. Reading other reviews to those people who think it was too German not enough English you are abroad mate we are now in Europe live with it. It you want the food to be just like a Blackpool boarding house go there. Calabria is the real deal. The reality of a seaside holiday in Britain is generally clouded by the passage of time. It is probably me we are going to Sardindia and the Cape Verde isles in the next year, so I don't expect every place to be like home Yorkshire.
Around every corner in this area is something special from the bronzes in Reggio the vineyard near LA Mezia, the views from the Hotel Scarion's pool area in the Capo vaticano area (out of this world). Agree about the pizza restaurant. The wow moment of the holiday was when coming back from Stromboli we saw dolphins in the sea from the boat and the nice Italian captain circled around so that everybody got a good view of them.
Tropea and area is a special place I would advise any one to see it in the near future, before the brits really "discover" it, and open a pub (English bar) selling meat pie with chips and Sunday carvery lunches. This hotel and resort is better than the tour operators brochure.
