First impressions were great. We arrived late at night and the Hotel looked very smart. The reception area is very impressive, but when we got to our room we weren't as impressed. We were on the roof! We had a great sea view, but the beds and furtiture were literally... more

We booked our holiday last minute and after looking at the reviews that many people had wrote had mixed feelings, many people had complained that it was not 5*, to old-falling down, blah blah blah. Well i have to say these people are too fussy. The Mitsis Grand Hotel is... more

This is not, by any means, what you would expect from a five-star hotel. The beds, for one, were horribly uncomfortable. There was a lot of noise coming from the corridor which made it even more difficult to sleep. The staff was generally unpleasant. The inner pool was... more

We found the hotel quite comfortable but in need of a lick of paint in places. Once you leave the ground floor of the hotel it’s like being in a hospital until you reach your room. By that I mean long, white, none descript corridors with any wall decoration at all, other... more

The Grand is super. Just returned from a great week there. It is true that the Dining Room is huge, and therefore somewhat impersonal, but the food was excellent and the choice remarkable. We also tried the Italian and Chinese restaurants (both excellent) and the Hotel... more

As previous posters have said, although classed as a 5 Star Hotel, the Mitsis Grand Hotel is really comparable to a UK 3 Star or Overseas 4 Star Hotel (think Iberostar). If you bear this in mind when making your booking you won't be disappointed. Built in the 1960's, The... more

Best Hotel by a Mile
As I walked around Rhodes Town about a month ago the Grand Hotel stood out by a mile. There wasn't a better hotel in the area. The staff were very friendly..no, correction, extremely friendly and the two pools were very nice. the hotel was the very clean, they had that right. The restraunt was nice enough but there were big queues for the hot meals. The 'Red Restraunt' just around the corner was superb with very nice food and staff. The OldTown was not far away and we went down there almost every night. The only thing I found annoying wasthe beach was peppled not sandy. But overall it was the best hotel I have ever stayed in for friendliness and cleanliness.
Liked it eventually
On our arrival at this hotel, we were taken to a nearby street and booked into an unfinished apartment block, which turned out to be a 3 star hotel! The La Vita. After protests, we did not get into the Grand until 24 hours later. There appears to be an admitted policy of overbooking at the moment, but I hope it has been rectified, but I don't think it had on our departure as I had still heard words of protest. Apart from that, which was enough, the hotel is very nice and the rooms are large and very clean. Hotel is on the front and central. The buffet meals are quite good, but the layout is in need of some reorganising, all follow on from each other. Short of some nice meat dishes, eg. lamb, beef etc. Entertainment virtually non existent, and poor for a 5 star hotel. Did have a couple of staff who were quite rude. A compliment to the reception manager on days who I think was in a position he could not help, and did send out a bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine to us and the others affected.
A perfect holiday
We have just returned from a week at The Grand Hotel, and have had a wonderful time. We can't complain about anything. The staff were friendly and helpful, the place was very clean and the decor was very good. The food was really good, especially the Chinese Restaurant. The only problem was we didn't stay longer.
Enjoyed the Grand Hotel
My family and I just returned from a four day trip to Rhodes where we stayed at the Grand Hotel. The hotel lobby was very impressive and the staff seemed very attentive. The rooms were redecorated in 1995 so of course there's your normal wear and tear of ten years. I have to say that after reading the reviews on trip advisor I almost changed the hotel because it just didn't seem to get good reviews. I'm glad we decided to stay at the hotel because it was quite nice. We had Half Board, which is breakfast and dinner included. I do think they could arrange the buffet a little better so that you're not standing in line for 10 minutes trying to get what you would like. We found the drinks were expensive as I had read in the past reviews. I think next time it would be breakfast only. There are so many quaint place to have dinner at reasonable prices as well as drinks for reasonable prices.
Great Hotel
Stayed at the Grand in October 2004. Staff were some of the friendliest we have ever come across , always willing to stop and have a chat. rooms clean with linen changed nearly every day. Resaurants great with the themed ones, chinese and italian great , but be sure to book them 2 days ahead. Old town 10 minutes walk but well worth it. take a trip to Lindos but cheaper booking it at the harbour. take a taxi transfer, cheap and saves the queuing. WILL DEFINETLY RETURN
Get a Grip - and stop moaning
What is wrong with British people? Doesn't matter where they go - they are never satisfied. By the way, I am British. Spent two weeks at the Grand at the begining of October 2004. I had read some of the comments on this page before we got there, so was not expecting too much. However we were pleasantly surprised. Location is fantastic - make sure you book a sea view. Spent hours on balcony admiring the views towards Turkey, passing cruise ships etc. Grounds are immaculate and clean. Only used front pool. The only complaint here being the sun dissap[peared from tthe pool side half way through the afternoon. Bad planning to say the least. The hotel is ideally located for the old town, shops , bars. Plenty of reasonably priced bars just round the corner. Our room was large and spacious, and very clean. The maid service was efficient and profesional. Food - buffet choice was very good. Plenty of choice and of very good quality. Staff - Unlike others, we fgound the staff to be very helpful and respectful. Making an effort to be polite and friendly, ensures a similar response back. I heard some English people, not only be rude to the resturant staff, but talk to them as if they were their personal servants - and they then complain that staff were unfriendly. I would agree that its not to be compared to 5 star hotels in this country, but neverthe less, we had a very relaxed and enjoyable holiday at this hotel. We did not book last minute, and probably paid near enough brochure price. I would definately go back if I was to go to Rhodes again, and would definately reccomend to others. Good hotel, good food, clean, good location, nice staff.
Don't expect 5*
My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at the Grand. The best thing I can say about the hotel is it's location, which is convenient to the centre of Rhodes town. The entrance lobby looks inviting enough, but our room was in need of renovating. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, carpet stained and the furniture battered. Mealtimes were chaotic - too many guests for too few tables. The food was uninspired and often only lukewarm. We each suffered an upset stomach. Smoking is permitted in the dining rooms - in close proximity to the buffet area. The pool areas are clean, but beware. Marble floors look nice but are dangerous and we witnessed several accidents. Drink prices are prohibitively expensive. If you are seeking 5* luxury, this is not the hotel for you.
Beware 5* rating
Just returned from GH this morning after 1 week half board late deal. in general, this hotel certainly has a grand appearance both outside and on entering. The rooms were both clean and comfortable We found the food to be of good quality and plentiful with the chinese restaurant to be above average On a downside we found it strange to have to buy tea after our main evening meal. Also would have liked cheaper bar prices and perhaps some kind of regular entertainment. this hotel looks like it has been 5* but i think this was a long time ago. A more realistic rating would be no more than 3* We would go back but it would be based on a bargain price rather on hotel advertised rates.
CLEAN COMFORTABLE VERY RUDE STAFF
We had a late half board deal which we booked the week before going. So did everyone else we spoke to at the hotel. Salt water pools not sea water but a bucket of salt is emptied into the pool each morning. None of the children at the hotel seemed to like this pool and all used the indoor fresh water pool. 3 restaurants - chinese excellent (take your own black bean source as never available, leaving half the menu options only) - italian terrible and rude argumentative staff - main buffet ok but 3 star rate only. Watch out for the hotel owner's family who expect preferential treatment over paying customers, particularly in the restaurants. Fantastic location for Rhodes old town and harbour. All in all a good holiday, but would not have enjoyed it if we had paid the full rate. Our half price late booking was all that it was worth.
Grand for Quality
Frist class hotel, with excellent food - three restaurants, Chinese being the best! The only thing that spoilt the holiday was the actual resort, the beach was very dirty with litter (and condoms!) and the beds soiled. The whole resort needs cleaning up.
