3 Star rated hotel that fully deserves it and probably more. Literally an oasis of lush gardens with exotic plants, in an area of dramatic volcanic mountains guarding picturesque coves. The area is fairly new to the British tourist trade (Thompson's first year) and you feel this is really is authentic rural southern Italy.
Not much English spoken outside of the hotel, but your efforts at the native language will be appreciated. As well as the beautiful gardens, the hotel has two pools (one for children) and a pool bar. All staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The meals are of a very high standard and largely local Italian cuisine. Some English guests could not get used to the vegetables being eaten as a separate course to the meat, but that is part of the fun of experiencing other cultures. The rooms were very clean and well appointed.
The local bus and train service is excellent value, and ideal for visiting the larger towns, the nearest being Tropea and well worth a visit. For anything off the beaten track a hire car is needed.
I would thoroughly recommend this region of Italy and this hotel in particular, and we will probably be returning next year to explore the area further.

Very enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is family run and gives a taste of the real Italy.
Food was superb - lots of home grown produce and seafood. Starter (antipasto) buffets were extensive and varied, followed by pasta or soup. Main course was waiter service of meat or fish although served Italian style without vegetables. Lots of fresh fruit on the buffet for dessert - huge bowls of fresh local strawberries.
Dinner is taken outdoors when weather permits - it was a bit chilly in the evenings in May.
Extensive grounds with fruit trees etc. The pool area was never crowded and has very comfortable free sunloungers. There are displays of old farm implements in the gardens as the hotel was originally a farm and is considered an 'agroturismo'.
The location is close to local shops and cafes. Hotel provides a free minibus to and from the beach. Lots of lovely local walks. It is ideally placed for days out if you decide not to hire a car as the train station (Ricadi) is only a 15 minute walk away.
The brochure does not mention the trains (perhaps because they just want to sell tours)! We enjoyed many enjoyable (and cheap) days out to places such as Tropea, Pizzo, and Scilla.
