relaxing holiday in wela hotel
from missionangel
Just returned from a very relaxing week in the hotel wela. The hotel is exceptionally clean and tidy and the rooms are very spacious and cleaned on a daily basis. The staff at the hotel are very friendly. Thel pool area had ample sunlounges and the pool area is also very clean. The breakfast is a good start to the day, lots of choice. Unfortunately if you go half board the food in the evening is not so good, but there are lots of restaurants to choose from. Friends have been years before and said how cheap it was, but alas it is not any more, although cheaper than the uk the Europe influence has taken its toll and it is not so cheap in sunny beach, if you go out of the rsort it is still possible to get a rally inexpensive meal and wine etc. I will definanately be rturning to Bulgaria but will not be going back to Sunny beach, nothing wrong with it but it has to much of a feel of Blackpool in the Sun if you know lwhat il mean. All in all a very nice and hotel and i would recommend it to families and singles.

My husband and i have just returned from a week in the wela hotel. Having never visited Bulgaria we were a bit apprehensive however we need not of been. The hotel was excellent, clean and the staff very friendly. The breaskfast was definately a good start to the day with juice, toast, tea/coffee, fruit and hot food i.e. sausage/eggs. The hotel was very quiet as the season is just starting up. The main area of Sunny Beach is only a 5 minute walk and there are plenty of bars and places to eat along the way. We were amased at how cheap the food and local drinks were, we even brought money back with us!!!!! Bulgaria is definatley an up and coming worth seeing place.
loved the wela

wela fine

arrived at hotel after hearing some bad reviews, no problems were heading our way, the staff could have been a bit happier but the position of the hotel was excellent, slightly away from the busy sea front but only a 5 min walk to it all, food in hotel was ok but the service was crap, ended up not having my meal as it came when everyone else had finished, nice and clean, nice pool, room spacious, maids always around cleaning 24/7 would go there again just not eat there, also in a morning too many smokers around at breakfast could have had a section for non-smokers and also had to be up for towel duty!!!!!!!
Fantastic Hotel

My fiancee and I decided to go to Bulgaria this year, as it was somewhere we hadn't been before and we wanted to go before it joined the EU and all the prices go up! Hotel Wela was great. The rooms are large and the air conditioning is very effective - no problems sleeping at night because it was too hot. I managed to break my bed (no not that way) and is was fixed that same day. The maid service was fantastic, our room was immaculate every single day. The hotel is very popular with Germans but that didn't bother us as we didn't really spend much time in the hotel. There doesn't seem to be much to do for young children though. We went bed and breakfast and the food was OK, there was quite a good selection (pancakes, fruit, yoghurts, toast, eggy bread, meats, cheese, potatoes, etc). We ate out for lunch and dinner found a couple of good restaurants but I'll get to food in a bit. The resort itself is very lively, there are people trying to convince you to go into their restaurants, have photos taken with snakes and bears but you just say no and keep walking. There are bikes and golf trolleys around usually piloted by teenagers, so keep an eye out! Recommended places to eat: Carriby (not the place called Carribi next door!) we had the pig in a pot - fantastic. Romantika (in Nessebar) blue shark and fish on a roof tile with dill potatoes - delicious There's a small cafe attached to Hotel Sever/Yug which was our favourite place for lunch. Recommended excursions (arranged by Balkan Holidays rep): The Traditional Village in the Mountains - definately my best night out. Sozopol & River Trip We also did the Blue Mountains which was good but too much time on the coach and the gypsy tent which if we had known was a reastaurant near Sunny Beach we would have arranged ourselves. Take the water taxi to Nessebar - brilliant and we got the land train back from Nessebar. Any questions then please post and I'll do my best to answer. We loved Bulgaria and would definately go back.
not so good

Having holidayed in Bulgaria for the first time, cannot see us going back. it was alright but much prefer Turkey. Wela hotel ok, rooms cleaned and towels changed every day, brilliant. Good Hotel in bad need of entertainment. Could get a draught lager (which was nice) around the pool and in restaraunt but not in night bar, just a bad selection of bottles. We were bed an breakfast but ate out after a couple of days, plenty of it but not very nice, Think that says it all for the whole resort, found Tropicano best place to eat, but a lot of welcome meetings from surrounding hotels meet there morning and night. Be prepared to wait for your food everywhere, main meals sometimes come before starters and as like, very very laid back, some were lying down in fact. just about everythings grilled. we sent alot of half cooked meat back. Alot of "lucky lucky" men and women trying to drag you in bars and cafes but not a problem after been to Turkey. Watch out when walking up beach front lots of people and electric Golf buggies/scooters to clip your ankles. shops very repetative selling rubbish. a trip to Neesabar is a must Taxi 20 lev from other side of road to the Wela. be prepared for the road!! nightmare some cars and buses slow down for you to cross but the nutters behind overtake so bewarned. Free bus to water park "otherside of road" is alright, food and drink costs about same as rest of resort, lots of queues for slides. Bourgas airport is a headache its tiny and i mean tiny. be sure to take mozzy repellant and lots of it you will get bit more than once
lovely wela

My friend and i along with her 3 year old son all stayed in the wela for 2 weeks. i must agree the view outside does show building sites but that is because sunny beach is still expanding and probarly by next year, it will be surrounded by more beautiful hotels. We were only there for bed and breakfast but a couple of times we had our supper there, i dont think the food was crap, i just think it was because we are not used to their food and the way the cook their food, but saying that my friend and her son was unwell several days while we were in sunny beach but we couldnt blame the wela hotel for that because i was ok, we think maybe it was the cola over there, because i didnt drink the cola and they did. The hotel itself was a bit away, but that is fine if you wanted a peaceful night sleep as we had friends living in the central area and said it was hard for them to get sleep with people going about all night after the pubs had closed. The cleaners had our beds changed everyday along with plenty clean towels. Our room was hoovered, balcony was moped, bathroom was cleaned and moped everyday and we had plenty of toilet rolls, we couldnt doubt the cleaners as they were more than excellent at their jobs. The bar staff in the lobby were very friendly, even though the drink was expensive in the wela. Overall we had no magor complaints about the wela but they could do with some night entertainment and reduce the price of their drinks. The hotel itself is 100% spotless. Most of the staff talk english apart from the undercover secruityguard as we realized after talking to him for about 10 minutes.

This was our first trip to Bulgaria we heard so many stories before we went, negative and positive. Well we LOVED it, so friendly and so cheap. We stayed in the Hotel Wela which was excellent. Our room was very clean, exactly where we had asked for (top floor overlooking the pool), the hotel itself was lovely, the staff were very polite and helpful, we enjoyed it so much that we intend to go back next year.

First of all, if you are a great fan of blackpool but with terrible food, sunny beach is the place for you! THE HOTEL The hotel is clean in the reception area, and the 'night club' is so clean you can smell domestos! however, a tip is not to buy drinks in the hotel, it came to 20lev for 2 vodka and oranges, this may be cheap to prices in england, however for 20levs you can buy 2 litres of vodka for the same price in the hotel shop! The location of the hotel isa bit out of the way however, you must cross a main road to head to the centre or the beach. The road to the beach its not lit at night, and 5 times out of 10 you will be followed by groups of drunk locals, which can be a bit nerve wreaking! By day a gypsy famiy block your way to the beach with a chained bear, begging! The food in the hotel was terrible (my fiance and i stayed b&b), we lived on toast for a fortnight for our breakfast so whatever you do, it would be adviseable not to go half board as the food is cheap in local restaurants. About £10 for 2 2 course meals, bottle of wine, and two pints, and included in the price 5 days of severe diarearra!!!?? Everybody we met spent at least 4 days of illness, due the terrible food. You are constasntly hounded by the local gypsy children and men with bathroom scales, asking you for money to get weighed! Unbeliveable! We had quite a poor holiday, and to top it off, on our last day we were threatened by the MANAGER of the hotel (accompained by a plain clothed security guard???!!!) accusing my fiance of STEALING CHRISPS! ( the very bags we bought in the supermarket) She was threated that the police were to be informed if we did PAY 10 TIMES THE VALUE of the 'stolen chrisps'. When we attepted to expain where we got them from, she suddenly had a relapse of the english language. In the end, we paid £13 for a bag of chrisps. In the 2 weeks were there, the bed sheets were never changed, and the rooms view was of a bulding site, where the 4* comes from we'll never know, it is at its best a 2*. Save your money and go somewhere else, the hotel and resort is a hovel.
Wela Hotel - modern and clean

Wela Hotel Review My sister and I are just home from our holiday in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria where we were staying at the Wela Hotel. I realise reviews of Bulgarian hotels are not readily available so we felt the need to review the Wela for the benefit of future guests. First Impressions I am always very apprehensive about hotels on holiday but I was so relieved when I seen the Wela, it was modern and the reception area was very fresh and smart in appearance and our room was also of a similar standard, thumbs up! (5 out of 5) Location The hotel is close to the beach and in a quieter location than the centre however the holiday brochures omit to inform you of the busy road you have to cross to go anywhere, even to walk along a pavement! (3 out of 5) Restaurant, Half Board We were booked for half board however I would not recommend it, bed & breakfast would have been ideal. The restaurant does not have a great selection and what they did have was unlabelled so we had no idea what it was, common problems amongst the hotels. We ate from the hotel three times before resorting to the great selection of restaurants which are very cheap. (2 out of 5) Receptionists Do not expect much, they are capable of checking you in and out and thats about it, as they barely speak any English. (2 out of 5) General Tips Telephone Calls Never, ever, ever make a telephone call from your room, its extortionate! The standard cost of a call per minute at the international calling booths along the promenade is 0.55-0.69LV per minute and the cost from the hotel room is around 4LV per minute, yes almost 8 times more! Tipping Its customary in Bulgaria to tip. You will be asked to tip the bus driver on arrival and departure so its a good idea to ask for some smaller notes when you are ordering your currency (e.g. 2 or 5 leva notes). Local Bus Timtables Use the travel channel BG travel info to obtain information on bus timetables and various other information.
We went for one week in sept ,, on arrival had 2 wait 2hrs for checking in ,,, the room was ok but the hotel has no sea views at all & the bed are cheap & nasty ( watch out for bed bugs ) ,, the food is recycled over & over again ,, very poor choice , the staff are not friendly or helpful what so ever ,,,it was the holiday from hell ,,,,
