We have just arrived back from a 2 week stay at the Wela.
Hotel in general this is a nice hotel with nice staff. The bedrooms are kept clean with fresh towels daily. The pool area was too small for the amount of people staying there as was the eating area. We payed 40 lev to keep our room on until 18.00.Beds were comfy, shower was good but the air conditioning wasnt very powerful. The food was average we went half board and although it was very repetitive We thought it was ok. We did eat out a couple of nights but only to sample the local cuisine
The beach is around 5 minutes walk away but it as not very well lit at night. The main strip is around a 15 minute stroll, however it can be very crowded around this area with lots of younger people, but we never encountered any trouble. The beach was lovely and clean but I did object to paying 21 lev for 2 beds and a parasol!!!.
We went to Khans tent on a night out which was very good value for money and the entertainment was great. We went on a sail that was around £40.00 each but we were only out at sea for 4 hours that was a disappointment.
Get on the bus to Nessabar it is only 1 lev on the bus but be aware the buses get very full a no go if you dont like confined spaces. Nessabar is a beautiul place with winding cobbled streets with lots of little shops and places to eat just be aware there that you do get hassled a lot by gypsies trying to sell you magnetic braceletes a polite no 2 or 3 times and they get the message.
I like Bulgaria very much but things are not as cheap as they used to be there the prices seemed to have trebled since the last time we were there 4 or 5 years ago. I would go back but not to this Hotel. I can sum the holiday up as very enjoyable but We prefer the quieter part up near the Majestic hotel. I would recommend a trip to the Star Inn for a drink or a meal. The food was lovely there and the staff very pleasant.
- Advice: Make sure you get your towels on the bed early unless you want to be stuck around the side on the grass

looks good, entertainment sounds good, food should be good but from day one no activaties for the kids until late afternoon, then again 11.30pm in the night bar far too late for younger kids, after some complaining to the rep slow advance on the activerties during the day. The food was the same every day just mixed around no imagination on cakes and puddings had to pay for icecreams, after 11.30pm pay for drinks which were not even a measure in a plastic cup full of ice. Very dissapointed on a whole the hotel its self was clean and staff ok but no umph classed a 4 star but more like a 2 star it was a good thing we were two families together our entertainment was playing cards or go for a walk
the donny crew
- Advice: more entertainment for kids all ages in day and night and a mixture of food cuisine
- Good For: Beach

I've just came home from 10 days all inclusive at the Wela. We arrived at 0500hrs and the reception were well prepared for our arrival. Our rooms were ready and waiting for us and about a dozen other people so checking in was very painless. After a couple of hours sleep we went for breakfast which was on till 1000hrs. Plenty of choice available. The all inclusive bar was open from 0800hrs till 2330hrs and then the night bar was open. Prices in the night bar were very reasonable.Because we went just before the season had started there was very little entertainment on in the hotel but there is plenty of bars within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. It was about a 15min walk to the centre of Sunny Beach with plenty of shops and bars on route. Most bars will show British football if there's a game on and the drink in the centre is very cheap. All in all i defenetly would go back to the Wela as all the staff were very friendly and the hotel was spotless. Towels were changed on a daily bassis and the sheets were changed every couple of days. If you wanted anything changed you just had to ask.

After reading the many reviews on the internet for hotel Wella, I thought I should add my own. I have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Wella Sunny Beach, I booked my holiday last min, and had a quick look at the reviews for this hotel before I left. The reviews here a mostly less than favourable so it was with some prepidation that I set off for Hotel Wella Sunny Beach, BUT... I was pleasently suprised! the hotel is fine- The reception area is clean modern and brightly lit, the staff on the reception desk were polite and helpfull at ALL times, some people might think they are a little "off" but thats just the Bulgarian way and nothing personal!! There is a large very nice pool area with plenty of sun beds, and a bar (no waiter service) the pool and it's area is very clean and safe and most of the guests can be found soaking up the sunshine here through out the day. The rooms are clean and a good size, the maids cleaned our room and changed our bedding EVERY DAY (some reviews here said that the bed linen was not changed) there is a TV in room with a selection of sky stations and MTV. The bathroom is fine with nice large showers, the toilets are a bit of a pain and dont flush to well (like all toilets in Bulgaria) so you need to give it a few flushes!! the food in the restraunt is a typical european affair and to be honest not great, but with all the eating out options in sunny beach this doesn't really affect you too much.
All in all the Hotel Wella is nice clean and modern, I would stay there again, this hotel is about 10 mins walk from the centre and the sea front and ideally placed, to be quiet but not far away from all the fun.
The staff are friendly and helpfull, if you smile and chat to them they are absolutly fine.
Please dont be put off by other reports on this hotel... go and find out for yourself.

We have just returned from Sunny Beach, having spent two weeks at the Wela Hotel, July 09. This hotel is certainly not a four star – at best a two or three. There are no tea/coffee facilities, room service or any service from your room to speak of. There was also no pool waiter service for drinks or snacks so if you wanted a drink you have to put your ear plugs in and go to the pool bar which played loud music all day, every day. There is a fridge, tv and air conditioning (although the air con was on constantly in our room it was not really that good – cool but not cold). However the hotel is very clean and the maids changed the towels nearly every day and the sheets were changed frequently. We were only bed & breakfast thankfully as the food was what you would expect – we ate eggs on toast the whole two weeks but there was a large selection of meats, cheese etc – we had lunch in the restaurant one lunchtime and the food was awful – we were served raw chicken to give our children luckily as they are quite young we cut the chicken pieces up and noticed it was raw inside so sent it back only for some of it to appear on a fish dish we ordered instead!! We then since found out that the chef’s in this particular hotel were not fully trained and in fact the head chef was still training so eat there at your peril!
The swimming pool is salt water which was okay for us but the grate in the children’s pool was broken and wasn’t fixed for 5 days and then it was fixed with the wrong sized screws so then had a protruding screw which was just as dangerous as the broken grate!
At the beach the beach beds were very expensive at 21 lev (about £10) for the 2 beach beds and umbrella for the day which if you went to the beach every day would cost you best part of £140 for the two weeks but you can lie on the sand at the back of the beds for free – you will have a little walk to the sea on hot sand but free and you can buy a sun umbrella for around 10 lev (£5) which will last you the two weeks so a massive saving
I would not recommend Sunny Beach for couples with young children as there is literally nothing to do in the evenings unless you like karaoke. There were more club 18-30 crowds (dutch, german and british) going along the promenade and these large crowds were sometimes quite intimidating especially when you have young children with you – sometimes the language was quite offensive too and usually sung very loudly.
Also along the promenade were mopeds, carts and buggies which were driven sometimes by youngsters and therefore it was a little dangerous to let young children walk along the promenade especially when it was very busy. Sunny Beach does appear to cater more for 18-30 and single or couples without children wishing to club and drink the night away – if this is your holiday then you will have a great time as its really cheap for drink – BUT only one thing.... they water down spirits and beer and we found that in most restaurants unless of course if you go to the bar yourself you will end up with a non alcoholic cocktail or they mix your spirit with a dash of coke etc and it will only be 25ml instead of 50ml and they charge you for 50ml – we wondered why we never got tipsy until we started to order our own and tasted the difference straight away!
I would not go back to Sunny Beach but did have a great holiday in spite of its bad bits.

Went to Bulgaria with my sister and stayed at the Wela during Whitsun half-term at the end of May. The hotel was hosting "Prom Breaks" for Bulgarian youngsters who were celebrating finishing school so sometimes the pool area was empty apart from a few couples sometimes it was fairly busy with the teenagers enjoying themselves. They were well-behaved though and it was nice to have a bit of activity going on. When they weren't there it was too quiet - except, for some reason the pool-bar music was played too loudly most of the time! This might have been ok if there had been more variety but the barman tended to play the same thing over again. Breakfast buffet was good with a reasonable choice of hot food, cold meats, salad, fruit, breads, jam, honey, croissants, cakes, limited cereal choice though unless you like budget cornflakes, choc balls or muesli. Same breakfast every day though. The evening meal was ok, though there was no buffet operating because of the "prom nights" so we chose from the menu. The a la carte menu is very good, though I wouldn't bother with the steak again. Waiters often get the orders wrong (we found this in other parts too, so either accept what they bring or send it back, no probs)
Staff were friendly and helpful, maybe a bit reserved, but then so am I. Some reception staff very chatty others not such good English. Maids very nice, we like to tip up front so they are even nicer, lol. Wages are poor in Bulgaria so 20 Levs is pretty generous, whereas at home it's just a round of drinks. Night barman was a bit odd, possibly overcharged us so we didn't go back in there. The hotel was very clean, there is apparently a 24 hours doctor there, creche, beauty salon, small play area, did use the internet on the last day, which is relatively expensive (5 levs). Also helpful were "Pat" the lady in the little shop next door and "Chris" the taxi driver whose pitch is right outside. Didn't use him as we like to use local transport. The buses are good, cheap and regular. Take care of wallets etc as they can get crowded and we flew home with a man who lost his wallet that way. Go to Nessebar and Bourgas by bus. The waterpark has it's own free transport. You could walk back from Nessebar about 3 miles along the beach, past the nudist beach, but it's a lovely walk. Gently sloping sandy beaches, bit sea-weedy in places, loads of shells, plenty of water-sports available.
The resort was very quiet considering it was school half-term at home, plenty of "happy hour" offers in bars, pretty clean, apparently you need to be careful of gypsies but I didn't see any problems. Would go again, but might stay in one of the mega-luxury hotels at the north end of the beach!

Well...
My friend and I arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning and obviously got straight into bed after we checked in, I feel that the sheets were dirty and remained unchanged for the week that we were there. As well as getting bites completely covering our legs, even resorting to sleeping in trousers to prevent it happening. Our air conditioning in the room didn't work and when we reported this to the reception they sent someone up who just walked into the room and apparently 'fixed' it in our opinion it still didn't work.
The staff at the Wela aren't at all friendly apart from the young lad behind the reception and the blonde lady in the shop, the bar staff were extremely rude and I think that it is unbelieveable that you can't drink your own drinks in the reception area to encourage you to buy the ones from the bar at ridiculous prices. Especially when we sat in the reception for nearly 13 hours on our day of departure as there was no late check out rooms available.
The food... well I wouldn't feed it to a dog. It was hideous and thats the only word to use.
Also, we had a late night visit by the cleaner just appearing in our room when we were asleep, something not quite right there.
I will defo go back to Bulgaria, had a superb time and the nightlife is excellent but I would not go back to the Wela if someone paid me.
