Spent a week in the Meridian Hotel and while I agree it's not a 4 star hotel - it's certainly not one I would have too many complaints about. We booked a superior room which was big enough, had a balcony and a large bathroom. The Shower leaked a little until we got the 'knack'. One of the lifts was out of order too - but it did not inhibit our enjoyment.
Generally, we found the staff to be fine. Maids were great, kept us supplied with towels and linen when we needed.
Staff at the desk can be taken the wrong way too - make an effort and you will be pleasantly surprised.
The area around the hotel is pretty busy and there is plenty of places to eat and drink.
The Corner pub gets a lot of great reviews but it didn't do anything for me, I'm afraid. The food was basic and the tables are laid so close to each other that you are breathing in cigarette smoke from other tables while you eat.
There are some good places to eat nearby, though all the menus seem to be very similar.
Prices are great - Average beer - 2 Levs (1 Euro,10 cents)
T-Bone steak 25 Levs (13 Euros)
T-shirts etc (10-15 Levs) You get the picture.
We traveled with lowcostholidays.ie and got a great price for B/B for one week. We didn't have a breakfast in the hotel so can't review that. We flew Aer Lingus which was great and had a transfer from the airport which was a little hairy due to the driver.
All in all - an unexpectedly great break.
Looking forward to going back to Sunny Beach next year.

After reading the mixed reviews we took a chance and booked for two weeks bed and breakfast at a cost of £1800. As soon as we arrived the smell of moist damp hit you as you walked off the elevator onto the second floor. Our room door was opened and as we entered the smell got worse but due to the time and a long flight we just wanted to sleep. The next morning the full scale of the state of the room hit us , black mildue on the cieling in the bathroom , mould aroung the basin , sink waste pipes caked in mould, and drainage which was non existant ?The toilet was cracked inside the bowl and on the outside which let conaminated water seep onto the bathroom floor' damp smell now we knew ! The air conditioner was set and turned on only to blow hot air! so I approached the desk and complained this was wrote down and we were told it would be sorted out or we would be moved. Well nothing happened and everything fell on deaf ears. I tried to ring our rep twice on the supplied number and it just rang. The food was disgusting 12th floor with two elevators to move the whole hotel , so if you wernt fit before you went you would be by the time your stay was over.We as a family did not eat once and opted for the safer option of eating out. Beds are like planks of wood due to the mattress being 3 inches thick, with one pillow each. My sons bed although paying full price for him he was greeted with a chair which was stained and grubby, he is a tall lad about 5 '10 and his feet hung well over the end and the width was just slightly more than a newspaper. As for the pool' dirty and sunbeds had to be purchased daily at a fee of £2.50 each per day (Not in the brochure)This may sound all doom and gloom but i have photos to back the whole thing up. The resort however is great and we thourghly enjoyed everything about the resort cheap, and loads of activitys. Shops and market stalls are everywhere and the fake clothing business is as active here as in Turkey! Be aware of stalls selling cigarettes for less than the shops they two are fake. You can tell legitimate cigarette packets by a customs seal on the top of the packet, fakes are missing this. Over all the resort is really good just hope this helps someone from falling into our position The let down was the hotel,

Just back after two weeks 2 adults and three children.Hotel was ok ,rooms cleaned every other day.The lifts are the only thing that lets the hotel down ,constantly broken,as restaraunt is on the eleventh floor a bit of a nightmare.Be carefull with hotel door cards as they cost 20 lev to replace and are very flimsey. The safety deposit box costs 70 lev a fortnight so I would suggest to use your bank card you get a better exchange rate and save the deposit box cost. The reception staff are really rude. The sun loungers around the pool costs 5 lev per bed.The best bit about hotel is The Corner Pub.If you see a person trying to sell you cherrys are other fruit tell them to clear off as they try to rip you off

This hotel was poop!! the staff were very rude and the lifts broke down every day. The food wasnt great and if you were all inclusive you could only get drinks from the 11th floor and had to pay for the hotl sunbeds. Our money also got stolen fro our rooms it was discraceful and i would not recomend it!

returned back from the meridian on the 7th sep 2010 best holiday yet. went for 2weeks and would definetly book another 2 its great for the younger generation seen a few bad reviews before i went dont listen to them. i was there when it was comming to the end of their summer then sunny beach shuts down and they go off to the skiing part of bulgaria so id advise latest time to go is when i went i got a thew days where it rained but it was early in the morning and by time you had woke up enough to go out it had stopped and the sun was out. the beach is 5 minute walk away get there early because the beds go quick theres lots of bars round the hotel frankies bar witch is right next door to the hotel is a fun place more for younger generation as its like a mini club but there are loads of pubs that do bingo, karaoke and other stuff. and if you want to go into the main town its a 10-15 minute walk or theres a shuttle train that you pay 3 lev on and it takes you anywere you want to go in the town centre theres loads of night clubs mcdonalds, burger king, also kfc theres hundreds of tattoo shops and stalls selling designer handbags and stuff. the only down side i have towards the holiday is that we booked the wrong water park don't go to the sunny beach water park go to the nessebar one i didn,t have enough time to go but other people say its miles better then the sunny beach one the both only take 5-10 minutes to get to. best thing about bulgaria is that its so cheap its unbelievable most bars are happy hour 24/7 and the food is great tried a couple of meals that i wouldn't normaly go for and they were fab can't find any faults with bulgaria apart from the water park but we still had a good time that day. didn't use the pool to much as you had 2 pay 5 lev for a bed so i suggest just go to the beach.

We have just returned from our holiday 9th October and feel I must send my review immediately. Never go end of September beginning of October everything is closing down and I mean everything, bars, restaurants, clubs, shops and supermarkets are running down their stock. The hotel in my opinion is not a four star. There was no entertainment whatsoever, childrens play room was closed. You pay 5 lev per day for a sunbed by the pool which is not very big. The staff are not pleasant at all especially at reception and bar. The taxi driver outside the hotel was the happiest there. The weather was horrendous when we were there so we were confined to the hotel some days and spent most of the time in our room sleeping or watching the Discovery channel on television as everything was closed. The food was ok as such but was never very warm coffee was the same. We were charged £40 to keep out room on until midnight.I would not go back to this hotel. I could go on but it would take up too much space, go there at your peril .

This was our 3rd trip to bulgaria and we booked the Meridian on recomendation of co-operative travel, and the pics look nice, but what a mistake. We booked all inclusive and they dont have a clue, food is poor and undercooked, using the cheapest ingrediants they can find, the restaurant is on the top floor which has fantastic views but you have to sit on plastic chairs at tables that are filthy and with no cutlery. There is a better part but AI customers get moved out as its for 'paying' guests ? ? Whats that mean then ? The manager wont talk to you and when he did I got told he doesn't care !. This is also the only bar to get your drinks from, which are served in plastic cups (see pics) from a poorly stocked bar and from warm plastic bottles, proble here is that if you're by the pool you have to come up 10 floors to get little plastic cups of warm cheap quality drinks and then get them down again without a tray, so either both of us had to go and leave our kids unattended or go twice as you cant use the lifts and try to carry four plastic cups. There is a bar downstairs but you have to pay as its not owned by the hotel although its inside it !. Room seemed ok at first but although it says 'side seaview' unless you are on the 8th floor upwards you cant see anything apart from the hotel next door so dont pay extra for it, then we noticed the smell, the drains back up on the lower floors and they get waste water coming back in, the showers dont drain and all this then comes into the room, not nice. Rooms are visited most days by the maids but they dont really clean or hoover, the fridge is only a coolbox so only works at ambient temp, rubbish really and the same for the aircon, its not cold just blows air out. Reception are just totally rude and only understand english when you are paying for something, when you have a issue they suddenly dont understand and become ignorant. We also had youths above us urinating off the balconys down onto others around the pool below we complained to reception and they heartedly told them off but said its only people having fun on holiday. We had a few issues and we're not normally bothered but this place is rough, we followed the procedure and complained to the reception, nothing done, then agent in resort, not even a reply, then back to co-op in UK,we then took photos to back up claims which we used on our return the hotel denied everything at first until they saw the pics, then stalled and stopped replying to the co-op, but the co-op eventually refunded 50% of the holiday as a "gesture of goodwill" because the agent had stopped communicating or because they knew we had been poorly treated.
Bottom line is that this hotel is a disgrace and shouldn't be in any brochures for familes,Read the reports, can everyone be lying ? I dont think so, take pictures if you have problems and document any comm's you have with the hotel or agents, There are other hotels that are much much better for lower prices (fenix) PLEASE book elsewhere or you will regret it
