basic but nice accomodation
from lazaria
Hi, Well as a frequent visitor to Rhodes i have stayed twice at this hotel. My sister also worked here as a holiday rep. The hotel is quite basic and unfortunatly it has no pool. But it is very clean and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast is nice but never changes and it is pretty basic. The hotel is great for being in the centre where you can get to everything you need. Despite being at the end of bar street very busy pubs and clubs it is quite peaceful hotel. If you can get a good deal on it then i would definate recommend it. Both times i've stayed there i've had a really good price but many times its the same price as a lot more nicer ones.
Great Location, Great Price

I've given The Alexia 5* based on the cost, i paid just over £15 for a night! I've heard several people say it's more of a 2* but it does have tv, 24hr reception, on site bar, great location etc. - all the facilities of a 3*, it's just a little tired. I have stayed in this hotel before but over 12 years ago now. Since then they've added self catering studios which is what we had. Obviously these have been modernised at some time to incorporate the kitchenette, etc though the bathrooms are exactly as i remember (and they looked pretty dated then!). That said the rooms are clean and comfortable with a couple of cooking rings, fridge, kettle and sandwich maker in the kitchenette and plenty of storage, comfortable beds and a tv (mainly greek channels but bbc news) in the bedroom. There's a balcony off the bedroom and ours was at the front of the hotel so had a sea view. They have replaced the patio doors with a double glazed unit so the noise from busy Orfandinou Street didn't seem too much of an issue. The location for my needs is superb. The New Town shops are minutes away, the harbour and Old Town around 10-15 mins, Elli Beach can be found on the next street and the main nightlife district just yards from the front door. If you want luxury or a peaceful location then The Alexia is probably not for you but if you're looking for a friendly, comfortable and central hotel that's good value, it's ideal.
Reasonable hotel

Situated on the west coast of Rhodes town at the top end of Orfanidou sreet. As this street is known as bar street I should imagine that in high season it could get pretty noisy but in low season it seems fine. For a quiter room i would suggest a room at the back of the hotel on one of the top two floors, though the view from here is of the hotel opposite. The hotel itself is fine the rooms are of a good size and kept clean. The staff are friendly and there is a great bar dowstairs. It is a fair walk to the old town from the hotel but there is a bus that stops at the bottom end of the street. The most pleasant way though is to walk up and around the coast. A reasonable hotel for the price.
More a 2*+ hotel

We are just back from Rhodes, hotel Alexia. We always stay in 3 star hotels, and this was realy below that. The furniture is old, so as the bathroom. The beds are very low, and sound isolation terrible! We had a rooom on the top floor, with a sea view (hotel is in a second row from the sea), and the good thing is you can watch great sunset from your terrace. Breakfast is standard, continental, no problems there but dont expect too much. Hotel bar is nice. Hotel is at the begining of the bar street so expect a lot of noise, but if you close the windows and turn on the air con.( 5e a day) you will hear nothing. When we entered a room there were some hairs on the floor, and tomorow still after made had cleaned a room, so we have to write a little message to here to clean the floors! And she did then... All in all...not a disaster but if you are looking for a 3 star hotel look more...
The pits

We arrived at the Alexia at 2.30 in the morning and was unlucky to have room No. 5 behind reception which apparently was one of a row of unrefurbished rooms. It had 60's furniture in it that was tatty and neglected and the floor tiles were dark blue (probably to hide the dirt). The curtains were hanging off the poles. The toilet had been plastered badly and the whole place had a neglected look about it. We managed to change the room the next day. The food was another problem as you had to go around the corner to Aris. Ari was happy to take our food tokens which ensured we had the smallest portions possible, the size was good for a 4 yr old. Once he had the tokens he was not too keen to serve us quick preferring to look after his takeaway orders that kept ringing him. To eat you only had a greek salad and bread. Sometimes to stretch out the meal he served them separately. The main course was served in a dog bowl. With carefully counted out pieces of meat. You only had one choice. If you didnt like the choice he reluctantly only gave you one alternative which you would have had to take. We told the reception in Alexia that we only had one choice and they didnt seem concerned. The dessert was fruit or ice cream not both, even if there were two of you. Ari liked serving you drinks as you had to pay for these so the meal was stretched out. We finally had enough on the 4th day when I was served my main meal and finished before my husbands even arrived. Ari couldnt understand why we were annoyed, as when we arrived there was nobody there then when it started filling up he served tables indiscriminately, which was why I had a main meal and my husband none. A man on another table had the same meal as mine (which was probably my husbands) but Ari wanted to keep everybody a little bit happy. So we told him what to do with his dogs food and never returned. Medhotels were our reps there and were totally unhelpful. We would never travel with them again.
Staff very helpful, hotel bit below par

Stayed at the Alexia last year at the very end of 2 week holiday in Rhodes. We stayed for just for one night as we had a night-flight back to UK at 3:30 a.m. next morning. Hotel staff were very friendly and carried our bags out to our taxi in the middle of the night and arranged a wake up call for us at 2 a.m. The bar was ok and nice and cool. The barman was very friendly (despite having to deal with quite a lot of louts) and couldn't do enough for us. He even had a word with one of the UK guests who was insisting on buying me a drink despite the fact I was obviously with my boyfriend. We tipped him when we left and he seemed surprised (maybe he doesn't get many tips from the guests they usually get). The other UK hotel guests we came across were a bit on the ropey side - loads of tattooed drunks (at lunchtime) arguing over the pool table, prices of drinks etc. but as we were only there for one night it didn't really matter that much. The other point to note is that there is no swimming pool but as it is a stones throw from the beach again it didn't matter too much. The room was servicable but quite old fashioned and dark. The bathroom was ok but again could have done with updating. It was ok for the price (less than 30 euros for the room). The location would suit some people as it is on bar street and the clubs etc. were in full-swing at 2 a.m. when we left. The concierge explained that the clubs went on until daylight and it wasn't really good for hotel business. He was a really nice helpful chap. He was a 5 * person in a 2 * hotel, lets hope he has found a job soimewhere else this year! This year we are staying at the Ixia Cosmopolitan for our final night as we again have a night flight. Its is also quite cheap but reviews for it look a bit better than the Alexia and its closer to the airport.
Gret staff make the hotel a great choice
from Kyrie_eleisom
We arrived very early in the morning and thought that we would have to wait for hours until check in time to get to our room. We were pleasantly supprised by the staff, though, who were extremely helpful. We got our room after a short wait and got excellent recommendations for the city mini-train tour and restaurants that we never would have found otherwise. We requested a room with a sea view and got a great room on the top floor. It wasn't luxury, but we liked the room and the view was great. It was a little loud at night from the bar down the street, but we've heard the same thing about other hotels in Rhodes. The walk to get anywhere is short and has lots of interesting shops and sites on the way. The staff and all the people we met in Rhodes were great!
Decent, but noisy
from boygav
First time in Rhodes for me and was keen to see a little more of the island than the burger bars and vomit-spattered pavements of Faliraki. The Alexia in Rhodes Town is in a decent location right at the end of one of the main Bar Streets in the resort. As both myself and my partner contracted food poisoning on the first day on the island (NOT from the hotel, I'd hasten to add), we both saw a little more of the Alexia than we'd probably have liked. The walls are pretty paper thin, so you can hear everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) going on in the rooms either side of you. There's also a fair bit of noise from outside, but since we were there right at the start of the season, things hadn't quite got into full swing when we were there. Be warned, though - you'll need some earplugs once the clubs next door start opening until four or five in the morning. Apart from that, the hotel is quite pleasant. The rooms were cleaned scrupulously every day, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was serviceable, although a little same-y every day. Only hot items of food at the buffet were some rather dog-food looking mini hotdogs and some watery beans, as well as the option of making your own toast. The hotel bar is okay for watching football, although a little lacking in atmosphere. Out and about, I'd recommend you visit the Restaurant Victoria, as it seemed to serve the holiday food staples at a signficantly higher quality and a great deal more imagination than elsewhere. The place that gave us food poisoning was in the square behind the main drag at Mandraki Harbour near the Old Town. Stay safe - avoid.
Wouldn't go back to Alexia

Just spent a week in Rhodes Town and unfortunately we stayed in Alexia. We arrived in the middle of the night and we got put in a horrible dark room with dust flying around and massive gaps between the aircon and the wall. The shower holder was hanging off the wall and I really just wanted to cry. The next morning I told our rep that I wanted to change rooms and she helped me sort it out. Our new room was better as in it was white and no major gaps in the walls. All the grouting was still brown/black though and there were some sticky stuff on the bedside table that stayed there all week. We had breakfast at the same table two days in a row and it wasn't very nice sitting down the second day, finding the same stain that someone made before we sat down the day before. The good thing was that we had no creepy crawlies all week. My boyfriend said: Not even the cockroaches will come in here!! ha,ha.. I would recommend Rhodes Town to anyone, but please take my advise: Don't stay at the Alexia if you want a clean and fresh hotel.
A good hotel!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and June and it was surprisingly good! We had got a late deal and thought since it was so cheap we would be disappointed - we were wrong! The rooms were decent sized (the kitchen was tiny but we weren't using it!) and all the hotel staff were lovely. The location couldnt have been better for us, turn left and you are on bar street or turn right and you are on the beach! If bar street is not your thing, you can take a lovely walk along past the beach and the marina and it is about a 10 minute walk to the Old Town which is a walled city and is stunning. I would certainly recommend the Alexia, it is basic but as a base it is excellent!
It's a basic, but nice hotel, very handy for the beach and many good restaurants. Also very close to the bar area, but no noise can be heard when you close the patio door. Old fashioned portable tv with bad reception of even the Greek channels. If you want to watch... more
