9/10. Good, cheap hotel, handy for bars, beach and town.
9 / 10
Nov 2011, Londoner

It's a basic, but nice hotel, very handy for the beach and many good restaurants. Also very close to the bar area, but no noise can be heard when you close the patio door.
Old fashioned portable tv with bad reception of even the Greek channels. If you want to watch anything, take a laptop or portable tv/dvd player.
Free Wi-fi only works in the hotel bar/reception area, not in the rooms. Receptionist will give you the key code.
In our room, there was a tiny double sink and a fridge, plus a two-ring hob… right outside the bathroom. Odd, but you get used to it. Kettle and toastie maker also provided.
Staff speak good English, which is always a bonus and they are helpful and cheery.
This is a good hotel for anyone, young or old. However, wheelchair access to anywhere but ground floor is impossible, due to tiny lifts having a pull open door. They do have rooms on the ground floor, though, and the resturant and bar are there. There's a ramp at the front by the steps, but this is quite typically very steep. I'm glad I didn't have to use it.
Launderette across the street. Costs 7 euros per load, but they do it for you and it's all fresh and dry by the end of the day. Owner speaks excellent English and is very nice.
Warning: Shops adjacent are very expensive tourist shops. There is a Carrefour supermarket just 2.9km (1.8 miles) away from the hotel at: Nisidas Ro 2-16, Rodos 85100, very close to the Panorama Apartments. Their prices are more like Asda than Harrods.
Big Marks & Spencer in the middle of town. Never been in, but I’m told it’s just like home.

  • Advice: Take tea, coffee, pasta, sugar with you. Very expensive in Rhodes.

Not good

I booked to Alexia hotel 3 rooms for 7 nights. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff on the reception informed us that due to a mistake he has not any room for as and he sent as to another hotel 5kms away(Filerimos tourist village). He said that the other hotel is a 4 star hotel much better than Alexia. This proved very big lie because the other hotel was the worst hotel which i have ever gone. The rooms were like prison cells, very very dirty, very old furnitures. When I went inside the room for first time I killed a cockroach. The bathroom and the toilet were really really dirty and there was no hot water. After two really difficult days and after hard negotiations and pressure from the travel agent from who we booked the rooms, we returned back to Alexia hotel. This was was basic but sure cleaner than Filerimos. The staff were polite except of one two persons.

I booked this Hotel without first reading the reviews and I must say I was worried after. We arrived very early in the morning and were dropped off on the street corner (but the hotel was just over the road) as the coach cannot get down the street, in reception we were greeted by a very friendly and I must say hansom receptionist, he booked us in very quickly and efficiently.
Our room was on the second floor and the lifts worked the whole time we were there (2 wks), they were very clean, the maid came in to clean and give us towels every day, our balcony was sunny with a small view of the sea, the balcony door was a little tricky to work at first, but worked fine after my brain had grasped it, the beds were very comfy, the kitchenette was basic (two hob rings, sink, sandwich toaster, which we used to heat the locally bought cheese pies to good effect, kettle, fridge, a frying pan and a saucepan plus some cutlery), there was a TV but we hardly put it on, wardrobe (6 hangers), and lots of draw space. We were staying on a Self Catering bases so I'm not sure if all rooms have cooking facilities.
The bathroom was clean (as usual you cannot put toilet paper down the toilet) there was a shower in the corner of the room but no bath (personally a shower is always preferred in a hot country).
The conditions of the rooms were a little worn but as I have said very clean, all our lights and plugs worked fine.
All the staff we meet were lovely and very helpful the best we have encountered in any hotel.
The only downside I would say is that being on the end of Bar Street it was noisy if you keep your window open (when window was closed the double glazing did keep most of the noise out but it was very hot so air con would be needed), to be honest we usually stay in The Grade Hotel which is rated as a 5 star hotel but we thought that the conditions of the rooms were not that dissimilar, yes the Grade has a very impressive foyer, 2 lovely pool areas and a nice restaurant but room wise we were just as comfy in the Alexia (and we went into the Grade and used their pool with no problems.
The hotel is situated within walking distance of the old and new town and there are lots of bars, tourist shops and small super markets on your doorstep. You can walk into town by either walking along the coast or by cutting though the streets.
I think my advice would be don't expect a quiet hotel (I don't think there can be many in Rhodes Town that can claim to be quiet) with luxurious surroundings, but if you want a good clean base for your holiday then book the Alexia.
We have been to Rhodes Island quite a few times and always enjoy our holidays here, we use the local buses to get around, as they go to most of the places of interest they are regular and a lot cheaper than the organised tours, get a good guide book and some maps, we like going on the local buses seeing the local villages and everyday life which you don't see when on organised tours.
There is so much to do and see, if you like beaches Kalithea thermes is wonderful with its old Italian spa buildings and gardens, it cost 3 Euro to get in now as there has been, and still is, a lot of restoration of it's beautiful buildings, 7 Euro gets you couple of sun beds and an umbrella for the day, although there are some places to sit if you don't wish to pay for beds, there is now a lovely cafe which serves food, and of course the sea which is full of wonderful looking fish if you like to snorkel.
Rhodes Old Town is full of places to visit, lose yourself in the little narrow alley ways and you will come across some surprising little churches, small museums and ruins. The Archaeological museum is well worth 6 Euro it's not just old bits of pottery (although there is a lot of pottery but very interesting), there are lovely gardens with statues and mosaics, a restored Turkish villa with a garden and the famous marble Venus statue.
Take the bus (1 euro) up to the acropolis on Monte Smith (free entry) where there are ruins of temples and a stadium if you walk back down there are stunning views over the West coast of the island.
Lindos is a must visit 4.50 Euro each way on the local bus, it drops you at the top of the village but there is a free very regular bus that takes you down to the square. You can walk up to the Acropolis it is not far, but take it slow, or take a very hard working donkey. Lindos's narrow streets are full of white washed houses, shops, bars and roof top restaurants, I can recommend Steffany's, there is the main beach but much nicer is St Pauls bay with its little church and no water sports.
Honestly I could go on and on and looking at what I have type I think I have lol thank you for reading have a good holiday where ever you decide to go.

1 on arrival if your pillow is perfumed report it to reception so that they can be replaced with fresh linen
2 before you go out lock front and balcony door and your luggage lock
3 when going out ,do not leave your door key in the key box at reception,as they can say that the key is not there, when you return , and give you a spare one ,later they will ring you and say that they have found it.
4 when you return check your locked luggage thoroughly ,especially at the base where the wheels are located
5 if you find a knife has been used to cut into the luggage report it to reception at once
6 use the hotel safe which costs £25 a week for your passport cash and valuables as the management will not take responsibility should the worst happen to you

All in all a good hotel with some flaws. Helpful and pleasant staff with a conveniant location were the best features. The negatives were the noise (the hotel behind has a very noisy air conditioning unit) and is at the end of a street full of bars and nightclubs which also produced a lot of noise until quite late. If you do not like to be in a noisy part of town avoid. The accomodation was quite basic and old (the doors to the balcony would not shut properly which did not help with the noise) and plugs and lights mostly did not work. Also you have to pay extra for air conditioning. I went for the B & B option which was a mistake as the food was average at best. There are so many cheap good quality places to eat in town I would not bother. Cheap hotel but not suitable for light sleepers or people who are quite fussy about quality of acommodation.

Before I start, I must say that I had an amazing holiday. But that was entirely due to the company I was with. However, I can assure you that you can have a brilliant time in Rhodes, but it all depends on what you want from the holiday, and how willing you are to stray from the vicinity of the hotel to have an enjoyable time.
The hotel Alexia is located one block back from the sea front, so if you like the beach, it is less than 2 minutes away. Depending on which side of the hotel you are on, you will either have a sea view overlooking the coast line of Turkey (and it must be said, that the view of the deep blue Aegean is beautiful, but at our level -the 4th floor- the view was severely interrupted by the ugly buildings opposite), or you will have a great view of one of the neighbouring hotel's balconies!
The reception's decor is dated, and has a small bar with a pool table and games machines, that rarely attracts more than ten people at a time. The room we had was basic, but clean. For our purposes, it was fine, we only ever like to use a room as a place to wash and change before we go back out again. If you like your home comforts, you will be disappointed. It is air conditioned, but depending on your deal with the tour operator, can cost up to 6.50 Euros per night.
The hotel staff were very helpful, and couldn't do too much for us, they more than made up for the hotel's lack of grandeur. The one thing they couldn't make up for, was the hotel's lack of swimming pool. I know it's right by the beach, but the water on this particular stretch of coastline can get very choppy, not very good for swimming.
The resort itself, was highly commercialised. If you leave the hotel and head right, you end up on a street full of tat shops selling beach towels and cheap souvenirs, that will no doubt break within minutes, and bars and restaurants with pushy people outside inviting you in for greasy burgers and chips and cocktails with sparklers in.
I must admit a guilty pleasure in ordering a few of these ridiculous drinks, though I couldn't taste any alcohol in them!
If you head left from the hotel you end up at the top of Bar Street, a little taste of Faliraki in Rhodes Town. A narrow street is lined either side with bars and clubs, which stay open until 6am. It has an unruly, but safe atmosphere, probably caused by the low percentage of Brits.
The beach is quite nice, the breeze cools you down, and sun beds are always available. What let it down was its cleanliness. You were just as likely to step on a cigarette end as a pebble in some places, and even though the water is crystal clear, the choppy waves often have sea weed floating in it with the odd empty bottle of sun tan lotion chucked in for good measure.
Even though the immediate location can be rather tacky, the Old Town is only 10-15 minutes’ walk away, and is stunning by day and night. Here, if you stay away from the main squares, you can find some really good restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend a visit to Kallithea and Lindos especially (actually, I'd recommend you stay in Lindos!) they are tranquil and beautiful. Lindos has much nicer restaurants and the beach is stunning.
To summarise, if you want Blackpool with sun then you will love this part of Rhodes. If however, you want to taste real Greece, then if you stay here, you MUST hire a car, or get on a scooter, and use Alexia as a base for your travels.

May 2007, Miss R Morley

We have just arrived back from the Alexia in Rhodes and loved it.
We stayed on the top floor facing bar street and also in the view you could see Turkey, which was an added bonus.
I really cannot fault the hotel, because I got the holiday really cheap I was very worried about the Hotel but as soon as I arrived my mind was put at ease, the tour rep (from Thomsons) was so friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough to help.
Our room was basic but very clean the lifts were always in operation and the breakfast was lovely. Everyone who worked at the hotel were fab and so friendly I have not met staff in a hotel like them and I have stayed in many hotels.
Overall my holiday was great and for a recommendation on where to eat "Norton’s" is lovely (3 course meal for 7.95 Euros) and is less than 5 minutes from the hotel also the owner and his wife are so funny and very friendly.

My partner and I went to the Alexia in the summer of 2005. To my surprise we really enjoyed ourselves we were both twenty at the time and although we were looking for a good time where the hotel is situated its very noisy so that did put a damper on things. However the clubs and bars were just outside the complex.
We went B&B and thouroughly enjoyed the breakfast selection. The rooms are very basic but are very clean and tidy I have to mention that the staff are all very friendly as well.
There are loads of restaurants near by our favourite was Four Stars, it was really cheap but had the tastiest meals around it was gorgeous.
The beach is right in front of you but has a pebble beach but just up the road is a sandy beach so thats where we went.
Overall it was a really good holiday for both of us but I think it would be better suited to groups of friends who are looking for a lively holiday.
