worst hotel i've stayed in-EVER!!
from BBunni
Like you are now I also like to read up on cheap hotels i'm going to stay in and i often find some good and some bad and go for it anyway, well this time I made a big mistake. Firstly before I begin the worst part of my holiday by far was the food,i've stayed in other parts of Turkey and found the food bearable but this was really bad an example being brussell sprouts with melted cheese, the food had no labels, the staff were tight with the portions and it often ran out. basically I wouldnt even feed it to a pet, when arriving at this hotel we were told there was not enough room for us there and were put next door in self catering apartments although we paid for all inclusive hotel rooms, now before I start my rant the only two good things about this were that it had a much bigger pool (the hotel one is tiny)and the building was pretty empty so we pretty much had it to ourselves and the beach is literally 2 mins away, apart from this we were told by the manager himself not to tell anyone we were moved because the apartments cost more,we did not have our rooms cleaned once,we had to ask for fresh towels every day and practically had to beg for an air con remote,my best friend and I shared a room whilst my boyfriend shared with his bestfriend, their room was over run with ants and the bathroom light didnt work we didn't even feel we could talk to the manager about it because after we (rightfully so) demanded our air con remotes he was very offish and never said hello or smiled, he was very unwelcoming and rude.I would say only pay for all inclusive for the free alcohol and bring money to eat out-every night! I found this hotel a complete sham and would advise knowone to spend their hard earnt cash there,a real dissapointment.
Nightmare

Don't normally complain but this hotel is a joke. I've stayed all inclusive at loads of hotels in Turkey and Egypt, and understand that menu's can be basic etc, but this must be the poorest one ever. Rooms very basic, make sure you have a shower before 6.30pm otherwise no hot water. Sun beds are limited, also glasses are limited, no glass no drink! When checking out, the receptionist wanted to charge me 10YTL for damaging a key, which was damaged when we had it!!!!! Icmeler is awesome and would definitely go back again, Hotel Portofino though NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!
Shocking!

The Portofino hotel was nice enough, the staff where generally friendly. The room was basic, two single beds, and a bathroom not big enough to swing a cat and a small balcony. The website states they have air conditioning, this could be misrepresented. The air conditioning isn’t like what we have here. They only put it on from 10pm to 11am, and it works intermittently blowing both hot and cold air. The food was shocking; I didn’t believe that what they served would have sustained all the guests. Which I later found out that people didn’t eat there. The food was a buffet style, with various salads and vegetables. There was only one night that I actually saw meat and that was chicken, hence we ate out as much as possible. The cook only spoke Turkish, understandably and favoured the non English guests to bigger servings. The all inclusive drinks were good; a choice of all locally produced spirits and wine. This was only any good to you if you stayed in the hotel during the day and evening. There is 3 floors with 12 rooms on each, they boast about a pool and sun beds, which if you’re not partial to get up at 3am to put a towel out you will have no chance of using. There were initially 17 sun beds when we arrived and a further 5 were put out when the owners’ family came to stay. A staff member told us that the owner doesn’t put out as many sun beds, as this means people will go elsewhere during the day to sunbathe, drink and eat. There was a lack of entertainment in the hotel itself, but the restaurants and bars in Icmeler are packed with entertainment. The hotel plays music loudly until about 12 at night. So I would not recommend this to families with young children, as even with the door and window shut the music is still loud. In conclusion, as an all inclusive hotel, it sucks. The food is limited and you’re best eating out to make sure you eat. There is no entertainment and the rooms are small and stuffy. There is little chance of a relaxing day by the pool and a sun bed at the beach will cost you 2.5 YTL per person. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, you would be far better going self catering for less money as the food is generally quite cheap. One place I will recommend for any traveller to Icmeler is Yakamoz beach café and restaurant, which is on the main stretch of the beach, the staff are all lovely and the food was great.
You Get What You Pay For

The Portofino is in a great location in Icmeler as it is very close to the beach. The pool area is fairly small for the size of the hotel and doesn't all get sun all day, but we found it to be really quiet as most people headed to the beach. The rooms were "basic" turkish but could have done with small things which would have made them bit better - small holes in sheets etc., but very clean - rooms cleaned and sheets and towels replaced every day. It is down to expectations - 3* all inclusive is OK if you are in a resort and can eat out if you don't like what is on offer as there is little variety. But it does advise you when booking that it is Turkish buffet style (lots of salad, olives, meze etc). There was usually a chicken, fish or meat dish which could have been a stew and rice or chips. The staff were really friendly. Only complaint is that we arrived at 8am having spent all night travelling. We expected to be out of room at 12 the day before departure (didn't leave resort till 1am) but Manager insisted we couldn't have drinks or food in all inclusive programme after 12pm. Thought this was bit harsh but otherwise OK.
Little Budget Hotel

As it can happen: the Hotel Portofina is one mans Holiday and one mans Hell! it’s all down to expectations: when you pay less than £350 per person for an all inclusive holiday what are your expectations: we got a very friendly hotel: Staff were superb: by far Victor the barman was the most helpful to all: I couldn’t fault him: Drinks: yes the range is limited: and ice can be in short supply occasionally (Tip: their “local” mixers are bit naff: go up the road where you can but your on Red Bull/ Schweppes Tonic etc) The Hotel is very clean and tidy: few wires sticking out here and there: but never been to a holiday hotel yet that doesn’t have this: our housemaid were superb: she arranged our towels on the bed in a new design daily and kept the room spotless. Pool No problem rather short of Cushions: only problem was that the Brits are the new Germans several “large” families dominated the same Sun beds for the 7 days were there! Beach very close (Tip: you are not told on arrival but the Hotel has a section on the beach (Beds chargeable) but you can order drinks from the hotel via a “radio’d attendant. I said earlier Expectations: you are staying in a BUDGET hotel close to the beach: on our calculations the hotel is receiving circa £16 per person (not including Free Children) to house you supply food and drinks: you couldn’t get a healthy portion of Fish& Chips plus 3 pints for that!! You are staying in an hotel in TURKEY, with a mixed clientel: Dutch: German: Turkish: Russian and English: you will receive Turkish based food with a hot course: well supported by salads//soup & fruit (that includes Lunch) basic but something for all If you are looking for your British fry ups and chips with everything don’t go: although from my experience in Turkey in the this price scale: you will not get it in any hotel I would highly recommend this little friendly budget Hotel
supposed to be 3* but defo not

The rooms werent to bad i suppose a bit small though our beds were squashed together! We ate out most nights, the food wasn't very good at all! the pool was green for two days and no-one would swim in it, which wasnt too good in boiling hot weather! There is hardly any choice of drinks at the bar and what there is is rubbish! When you go all inclusive u expect to have a good choice of food or drink! we had to pay extra if we wanted a bit of lime in our drink! Now i wouldnt call that all inclusive would u? we ended up buying our own drink and puttin it behind the bar! they didnt even have ice! i would never stay there again!
Give it a go!

Well positioned, very friendly hotel. Dont believe the negativity of some of the posters, I read the reviews after booking it and before leaving and was worried, but I was pleasantly surprised. Food - sure you dont get an english fryup for breakfast but do you have one every day at home? You get a large meditteranean continental, cereal and sometimes some eggs. Lunch is a huge meze buffet with a choice of diff. hot meals each day, afternoon snack (takes a while to arrive) and dinner is good too. Rooms - basic, plus we paid for two twins when we really wanted a family room, which they dont have, but that was the travel agents fault or not making it clear and mine for booking in a hurry. Unfortunately the rooms were down the corridor from one another but it gave us two differenent 'spaces' - one with a balcony over the pool, and one slightly 'quieter'. No TVs in room, bring your own portable dvd or go down the road and watch sky if you like. Noise levels are high at night as the pool bar and the adjoining hotels poolbar try to out blast each other. I recommend packing some decent earplugs but it doesnt go too late. Also, there were two parties (one wedding reception) for locals going on in a function room at rear so turkish music was thumping through thefloors a couple of times.. The pool was clean and the beach was a mere saunter which probably made it the best located 'budget' hotel in town. Overall, an enjoyable time was had

I thought I would give it a go even after reading the review( Avoid this hotel) but I wish I had taken notice of it as our experience was very similar and more. We were all inclusive also but did not eat in the hotel because the food was so awful, There was no choice of breakfast Turkish or nothing and all Turkish food for other meals but not the same Turkish food served in many of the excellent resteraunts in Icmeler, the only edible food being the snack late afternoon which was pizza or burger no other choice and only if you were there to order it. We also noticed what looked like the same food reused for other meals If you wanted a drink they did indeed keep a check and the only bar in Icmeler you could not get ice happened to be the Portifino bar any other bar no problem, they did borrow the odd bucket from the hotel next door but only if you complained and then you got one cube needless to say the bucket melted pretty quickly we also noted that when the all inclusive finished for the night they did seem to have ice when you were paying for drinks, also only cordial on offer not very nice when warm seemed to be rationed as did the cola, also did not provide ice lollies. The people in Icmeler are so friendly and can't do enough for you the only surly staff seem to work in the Portifino. We also had cold showers for 2 nights as there was a (slight problem) and the electric went off on another 2 occasions, we actually checked out in the pitch dark. The hotel did have workmen in while we were there. I found no fault with the room which was clean the maid was very good I loved Icmeler and will go again but definately not to the Portifino. We have never found the need to complain about any other holiday we have had only this one unfortunately, all we can say is BEWARE.

Avoid the Hotel

Holiday was all inclusive but our problems were as follows:- Air conditioning was only available from Midnight till 8am and then it was very poor, and made it very hard to sleep. Food was very basic, repetitive and on the whole not very hot. Not bad if you liked chicken. All drinks had to be registered even the cheap cordials and you couldn't have another until your glass was completley empty. It made you feel guilty asking for another drink. My wife and I only drank cordial anyway. A large number of residents suffered stomach bugs. Staff tried to do their best but it seemed the hotel ran on a small budget and a number of staff left due to excessive hours worked. Others couldn't leave as they had to honour their contracts. Most residents started eating out more as the holiday progressed, defeating the purpose of taking an all inclusive holiday. Where not fussy holiday makers and don't normally complain, but when left over food is used again for the next meal it shows that the smaller their outlay the bigger their profits. College students probably have a better and more nutritional diet.
Just got back from Hotel Portafino. Arrived at 02.00 was took to are room by the person on reception who did not want to leave are room until he got a tip, (no Chance). the room was in need of a paint, new furniture and the carpet was filthy. The TV had no English speaking... more
