Pretty and lively but room for improvement
5 / 10
Sep 2011, mickfleet

After reading reviews I rang the hotel 1 month prior to our holiday to request 2 adjacent rooms on the quieter side of the hotel. I was assured this would be fine.
When we arrived the receptionist was unwelcoming and sarcastic (which is certainly not typical of Turkish people in general). He gave us one room on the ground floor of a quadrangle and one room on the first floor which was the closest room in the entire hotel to the street and bars that played very loud music until 4am. This room was unprepared. The key card did not work, there were no towels, no toilet rolls, the bedding was dirty and an 11 inch Mediterranean Chameleon sat in the room to greet my 2 teenage girls.
Reception were only able to move my girls next to us the following day, but still in a noisier part of the complex.
The rooms were ok. The bathroom was unventilated; the air conditioning unit in our room blew the electrics every time the thermostat clicked in. Our phone never worked. The key cards kept de-setting themselves and they only give you one per room.
The layout of the complex was lovely. All the rooms were situated on two floors and accessed via tree lined pathways through beautifully maintained lawns and flower beds.
The food was excellent with much attention paid to variety and flavour. The waiters were over-friendly, especially if you have teenage daughters. If you are not a touchy, feely person like me, some of them can be very creepy.
The pool and surroundings were lovely. Sunbeds were free. The beach was a very short walk away where beds were also free.
Every night there was lively entertainment by the pool bar which was always enjoyable. The bar staff were friendly and efficient but it took an eternity to get your drinks and change brought to your table.
Would I recommend?
If you want a quiet holiday and value your sleep I would say no.
If you are not too fussy and want a lively holiday I would say yes.

i have been to this hotel and others in gumbet,so after four years of spanish resorts decided to return for old time sake and was not let down.the location is perfecf if you like the beach because no matter what room you get your walk to the sand is no more than 200 meters, this was the first year i went half board which includes breakfast and dinner, the breakfast was ok all the usual suspects, cereals, toast, and eggs and pancakes.dinner is from 7.30 to 9.30 and all i can say is wow wow wow a choice of 3 to 4 main corses the same with starters and if you have a sweet tooth well your in heaven,i was shocked that the food was that good it cost 46 euros to go hafl board and i ate there every nite,i saved a fortune, now the rooms they are very basic but cleaned every day and fresh towels daly,i travelled with thomas cook and will again, thumbs up magnific had a great time

  • Advice: go half board you wont be sorry.

I stayed at the Maginfic in June 2009 with a friend.
The room was very clean and very modern with mini fridge.
The pool area was always spotlessly clean and the hotek restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. best food in gumbet by far, plus its located on the beach so very romantic for couples!!!
staff were very friendly and made our holiday.
Definately stay there again and would recomend it to anyone.

  • Advice: bar and restaurant staff can be very over-powering by constantly nagging you to go into their bars

Just back from a week holiday to Gumbet in Turkey. We booked the holiday in january and decided to stay at the Magnific hotel, which we thought was lovely looking in the brouchures. we read all the reviews in this before we went but thought the percentage of them was saying the hotel wasn't bad. so we were all excited about staying in it. Its supposed to be a four star, so we arrived at 6:00 am sunday morning and were really tired after a longish flight and had been up all night so we just were looking forward to getting to lie down after we checked in. When we eventually got checked in, we were brought to our room by a porter,We opened the door and i couldn't believe the state of the room they were putting us in. just like a dungeon, or id say jail cells would be better! The walls dirty, matrese filty, chunks gone out of the walls,we didn't even have anywhere to put our luggage, for a four star hotel i have never seen anything like it before. so i went straight back to the checkin desk and ask to be moved, but he couldnt do anything cause he said the hotel was fully booked but to talk to the holiday rep in the morning. so we did and didnt really get anywhere either. she just said there wasn't anything she could do till wednesday. so when wednesday came we just decided we would put up with it for the last 2 nights cause we had put up with it for 4 nights already. The hotel itself isnt that bad but i have stayed in alot better 4 star called hotels abroad before and at least the rooms have some standard. The pool area and beach is beautiful and its such a shame that some rooms are so bad. Don't be fooled with the brouchures though, because the standard rooms are been advertised as the suites, and im sure the suites are lovely but at the end of the day its false advertisement. Turkey was lovely and the pool and bar beach etc is fabulous so its such a shame its let down by so dissapointing rooms. i have included a few photos of the room we got to show people what they could get.

"Checked out after a week"

We booked the Magnific after reading reviews on this website. However, there should be a warning that this hotel is not for those who want a relaxing holiday. The music was extremely loud and the beat unbearable. It went on until gone 4am. One night they had karaoke until 4.30am.
The hotel's motto is "Check in and Chill out". There's no way anyone could chill out at this hotel! I wore ear plugs and two hair bands with socks stuffed in between and a beach towel on top and I could still hear the beat. We asked at reception if the music could be turned down and were told that we were in a quiet room! Heaven knows what it must have been like in a 'noisy' room.
We became dozy during the day and short-tempered so we checked out after a week and went to an aparthotel in Bitez. We slept properly for the first time in a week.
The Magnific Hotel and staff were okay. However, the room was small and damp. Meals were fine as long as you arrived in the dining room early enough. We arrived at 9.10pm one evening and there wasn't any main course left, so I asked one of the chefs for some chicken and he brought out a full tray. You have to ask for food if it's getting late. Remember the kitchen staff eat after the guests have finished.
The hotel is right on the beach and the sea is lovely but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday. Meals are served at lunchtime in the bar/pool area but the music is so loud we couldn't hear ourselves speak so we ate elsewhere.

At lunchtime meals are served in the bar/pool area but the music is so loud we ate elsewhere. The Sun Hotel nearby serves very good meals at reasonable prices and doesn't play music as loud as the Magnific.
Gumbet is a very noisy bustling small town. Day and night we were pestered by greeters at shops/clubs/restaurants etc. They will not accept 'no thank you'. We overcame this by walking 10 metres apart. As single people we were never approached!
This was our first visit to Turkey and the first week of our holiday was very disappointing. Our second week in Bitez was so much better.

Arrived in the middle of the night to very disappointing room with 3 beds in our room which was not asked for. Rooms very small not very clean wardrobe and storage space very small bathrooms grotty and small no fans in bathroom. So first impressions very poor. Spoke with reception the next day and asked for upgrade none available. Waited all day to have Bed removed. Only 1 swipe card per room!! 65.00 euro for Fridge and Safe for week. Gardens and pool area lovely and lovely view onto beach. Pool very deep no shallow end. Staff there very friendly.
Local drink not to expensive but smirnoff barcardi prices a rip off. Noise at night from the street very loud very difficult to sleep went on till maybe 4 in the morning . Buffet breakfast very disappointing. We are a group of 8 women aged from 46 to 62 who go away every year and have been to a lot of countries over the years.
Complained to Sunway Rep and didnt get anywhere, best part of holiday the beach area, will not be returning.

Just got back from having a 2 week holiday from staying at the Magnific Hotel,The rooms were nice and clean. We were towards the back and we could hear the music till 5 o'clock in the morning Wasn't bothered about that, There food was another matter,For breakfast it was Boiled eggs or tomato with cheese on top thats it or watery scrabbled eggs or waiting for the toaster for ages for toast,For tea it was Chicken every which way they could do lukewarm everynight for 2 week's.You had to pay to get better food that why they give you rubbish food Some of the waiters were rude they were chatting the young girls up.The rep was polite and good at his job.We wont be going back to this Hotel we've been going to Gumbit for 10 years now and that is the worse hotel food we have ever tasted.

A group of 13 friends stayed at the Magnific hotel for 1 week. the surroundings of the hotel are fabulous the pool and bar area are perfectly set up (but very loud) and the hotel restaurant "The Kebab house" has some of the best steaks we have ever tasted. unfortunately with 7 rooms booked none were as described and expected with some views of barbed wire and bins, despite this they were well equipped and had free aircon which was much needed. Our main concern was that two of our rooms had money taken from them during our stay we discussed this with reception and got nowhere it took four attempts to speak to the management of this hotel and still got nowhere, we were told to come back once the manager had discussed the issue with the general manager - 7 hours later this had not been discussed and we were kept waiting again, we were very disappointed with this as no effort was made to resolve the situation, the magnific is a large hotel and very impersonal you do not recieve the same service and consideration as alot of the smaller hotels offer. For those going to the magnific be very weary of money and belongings the theif actually went inside a bag where the purse was kept and took money from there!! We will not be returning to this hotel.

Hotel Magnific was great. On arrial we were greeted from our coach by the porter who then helped us check in and carried our cases to our room. We were very pleased with our room as it was one of the newly renovated ones in which we had requested when booking. The hotel is not as big as it looks in the magazine but, are they ever?? Saying that the hotel was not small and there was plenty to do such as visit the mini zoo, relax on the seating areas placed all over the hotel and play pool mini golf or table tennis. The pool is great too. Very big. Maybe not suitable for weak swimmers and children as it is quite deep, although im 5''7 and was able to stand up in it. With regards to sun loungers make sure you get up early and place your towel on a lounger as that by 9am there are no loungers left. The beach is directly outside the hotel too with private loungers which also filled up fast. The pool bar is verry lively and the staff are always happy to help by snack and drink orders from the sun loungers at your request. myself and my partner had stayed half board at the hotel but decided that eating out was more suitable and convenient for us. the reasoning behind this was that we were always too hung over to make the breckfast 8am-10am and also regularly the buffet consisted of salads, olives, cheese as well as hot options which did not appeal to my fast food addict partner although personally i thought the choice was great with a soup starter and selection of sweets every day. Gumbet is a wonderfull town and i have stayed there 8 times before. During your holiday you will be asked to go on several excursions whilst walking through gumbet but from experience dont use the hotels services and book with a travel company called queen travel by Uncle festers and the Tempo restaurants up in tow. We went on an all inclusive boat trip and Waterpark with them, where they picked us up from the hotel and made sure they did everything they could to please us. Best place to eat in Gumbet is the Colombio, there is no hastle and for £8 you can get a porterhouse staek which is similar to a 20oz sirloin. Heave. Although evrywhere other than the hotels are cheap to eat. Also before you go splashing out on the 'bargains' in gumbet be aware from experience that there are 2 markets in bodrum, one daily and another on a tuesday where it is much easier to haggle cheaper prices and tere is a much wider range of items. i have also previously been to other markets such as turgutreis and milas whcih are good but you get the same thing in Bodrum. What myself and my partner did this year was spend an entire tuesday in bodrum as that after bargain hunting we visited the beautiful castle and harbour. To get to bodrum the dolmus bus is cheapest, just flag one going through the one way system in bodrum and it will cost you 2 lira each way as a apposed to 10 in a taxi. During your holiday you must visit halikarnas and Club boat catamaran too. AMAZING!! That is the hilight of my holiday every year. The only complaints about the hotel are that there are verry few british people and the majority ar turkish or german travellers who tend to be rude and push in in front of you, and also we were placed in a block of rooms with all germans who were verry loud when drunk, and as we are in our 20's and enjoyed the noise and nightlife being kept awake 'til 7am with their noise for 2 weeks was pretty frustrating. Overall great holiday although i do prefer to stay at jasmin Beach Aparts in gumbet but im sure you will have a great holiday. finally dont travel Thomas Cook. Had terrible flight with hardly any legroom and had to place my knees on the seat in front as my legs did not fit, so i was cramped as a 5''7 size 8 lady!

After reading numerous reviews from various websites I was wondering what to expect when myself and my 5 friends (all early 20s) arrived at the hotel on the 6th July. From seeing many pictures online and in brochures I did expect the hotel to be bigger but it was still a pleasant hotel. The location is really good if you are planning many nights out in Gumbet's bar street- it's literally a 5 minute walk if that. The pool is quite small and really deep-not suitable for children it must be at least 5'8 inches. There is also not enough sunbeds if you are visiting peak season.
If you are lucky to receive the more recent part of the hotel to stay in, you will get a more pleasant room than the old side. The beds are quite hard though, there are very few plug sockets, the fridge is small and the air con is really bad (if you leave the room it turns itself off and it is very weak).
Thankfully we only booked B+B at this hotel because judging by the state of the breakfast I can't imagine the dinner being any better. Breakfast is only really watermelon and bread and a bit of ham and cheese selection. The fruit juice all tastes soapy (unless you choose peach!)
The reception staff are not that helpful. We regularly only received 2 towels when there were 3 of us and one morning we were locked out of our room at 6 am and it took nearly half an hour for a porter to assist us.
This hotel is VERY ideal for anyone young wanting to party hard in Gumbet's bars. As it is such a central location music can be heard until about 3/4 am so not ideal for anyone wanting a good nights sleep.
The hotel is nice but I wouldn't advise coming here unless you are looking for a clubbing holiday.

The Hotel Magnific, 'check-in and chill-out' slogan is spot on. The staff were more than polite and welcomed us kindly. They took our suitcases to our room as soon as we arrived. The en-suite room was a good size, clean and beautiful (although the view from the balcony was not great - but nothing dirty just other hotel rooms hehe)! We were so pleased with our room and settled in immediately.
Of course, being a girls holiday we hit the bar immediately where we were greeted by the most wonderful staff, who were friendly but not hassling. Over the week we became very attached to the hotels bar, despite trying others near by. The hotel was such a great environment, suitable for all ages, specifically adults though :)
The food was adequate but I would recommend that evening meals are more exciting and delicious in the hotels restuarant kebab house (which you pay for seperately- not part of half board) - It is affordable and delicious food. Nothing can beat it, the choice is incredible to (recommedation- Chicken fajitas)!!
I cant wait to return prehaps even this summer, I will be returning with the girls but also soon with my partner. The hotel and area boosted the most wonderful holiday I could have imagined.
Once again I would like to reinforce how clean, well-kept the hotel is, aswell as to mention the staff who work as a fantastic team and made our stay the best it could be.

Just returned from a two week holiday in the Magnific Hoatel Gumbet. We were a group of six so we had three double rooms. We all found the rooms dark and pokey, no wardrobe space
and very few plugs. The location was perfect right on beach but I had requested balconies for each couple and none of us received any. Also found it very noisy the music blared out until 4.30 a.m. every morning for two weeks. Ideal mabey for teenagers and young twenties not so good for middle-agers like myself.
