We had the most fantastic time at...
8 / 10
Apr 2006, Miss A Simmons

We had the most fantastic time at this hotel. It had the most lovely pool and it backs onto the beach.
Yes the pool bar is quite noisy, but we were expecting it, having read other reviews, Music was played quite loud during the happy hour's but it quietened down at about 1 am. However we had rooms near the pool, so I am sure those that aren't near the pool would be a lot quieter. The bar staff were also very lovely and friendly, and really watched out for us girlies! The bar wasn't that expensive as some have said and they served lovely 2 for 1 cocktails during happy hour, very yummy!
Hotel had clean basic but nice rooms, nothing luxury but when your young and enjoying the sun how much time do you really spend in your room over than to sleep?
Gumbet it self was very lively with a good range of bars and places to eat. You do get a bit of hassle as you past them form the waiters inviting you to eat there, but that’s typical of turkey and its all very harmless.
Went on a few trips both with first choice and booked locally and all very good. Would recommend a Turkish bath to anyone, it was heaven!
Beach is thin and busy, free sun beds with the hotel, spent most the time sun bathing on the beach, instead of by the pool. Excellent water sports available right next to the hotel as well.
Overall a really great lively holiday, maybe not for someone looking for peace and quiet and great culture (which we are normally into) but perfect for fun in the sun!

All I can say is bloody brilliant...

Nov 2005, Miss L Howard

All I can say is bloody brilliant holiday!!!!! This was my second time to magnificent hotel, went last year and loved it just as much as this time.
Booking it again for next year!!! Staff very friendly!!! The bar is cheap but more expensive than if you go into town. Very lively resort, for the young and young at heart!!! If you want a relaxing holiday don't come here!!!! Don't book any tours with the reps as they charge £10 for a Turkish bath but if you walk down the town £2,and it is just as good.
I can't tell you what the breakfast was like as I have not been up for it both years I have been!!! You get a lot of hassle especially if you are a bunch of girls!! Overall excellent and I can't wait to go back!!! Watch out turkey!!!!!

Gumbet is a good resort if you like...
5 / 10
Sep 2005, Gingermingle

Gumbet is a good resort if you like loud music, bars, a bit of shopping and people bothering you to go into their shop/restaurant - 24/7.
We preferred the pace of Bodrum, it seemed nicer, although it has no beach... but Gumbet’s beach is very small anyway!
The hotel itself was lovely. The grounds were beautiful and the pool stunning. The rooms were basic, but adequate enough for the week.
We were half board, which I would recommend. The food was pretty basic, but then I was fussy. The rest of the family thought it was quite nice. There was plenty of selection, and looking back, a much cheaper option than eating out every night, which could get very expensive.
The MAJOR gripe of the holiday was the pool bar music. Every night (I’m not kidding), the music was playing till about 3 or 4am. It started at about 1pm in the afternoon, making relaxing by the pool albeit impossible, and carried on until the wee hours of the morning. Also, don’t buy any food or drink from the Hotel as the prices were very dear!
You couldn’t keep your window open in your room as you wouldn’t be able to sleep, but then it was too hot to keep it open, unless you had a/c.
Actually a tip about the a/c. You can lift off the front cover and hit the overriding switch to on and have free a/c for your entire holiday without paying for it... same with the safe, there is an override button at the back of it - just a wee tip!
Thompson were fine. We left and landed on time both ways, and the trip in general was good. No room on the plane though, but that’s expected.
DO NOT BUY anything at the airport as 2 bottles of coke will cost about £8. It is an absolute rip off.
Don’t book with Thompson for the trips, go into the town and you often get the Turkish bath and the market trips free if you book something else. They are much cheaper.
We complained about the music several times to no avail, the bar manager said we were lying and that it wasn’t loud after 12pm at night, but that was a lie. We were thoroughly sick of it by the end, and we spoke to numerous people who felt the same. We didn’t even see our rep at all to complain to them.
I would never go back to this hotel as it made relaxing almost impossible. I don’t recommend it to anyone other than those after an 18-30 holiday!!!
